PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philanthropist Raymond Perelman is being told he can't bid on The Philadelphia Inquirer and Philadelphia Daily News.Perelman sent a letter this week urging the board to conduct a fair and open sale, days after former Gov. Ed Rendell said he leads a group trying to buy the company.A person familiar with Perelman's efforts but not authorized to speak for him says Perelman was told the bidding is closed. The sale comes less than 18 months after hedge funds paid $139 million to top Perelman at a bankruptcy auction for the media company. In his letter, Perelman said he is "surprised and dismayed" that he and developer Bart Blatstein can't bid.Evercore Partners, the New York investment bank conducting the sale, did not immediately return a call for comment.
