NEW YORK (AP) — A prosecutor has told a New York jury that a guilty verdict is inescapable in the arms trial of an ex-Soviet officer.That was the message Anjan Sahni (AHN'-jahn SAH'-nee) delivered Monday during closing arguments as the three-week trial of Viktor Bout (BOOT) began to wrap up.He says the man known as the Merchant of Death had a seriousness of purpose when he went to Thailand in 2008 to work out a weapons deal.Sahni says Bout hoped to supply arms to anti-American rebels. He says Bout didn't know he was stepping into a ruse set up by the Drug Enforcement Administration to capture him.He was brought to New York for trial last year.Bout's lawyers say he is a legitimate businessman who never intended to sell weapons.
