BOSTON (AP) — A Sudbury man goes on trial this week for allegedly trying to help al-Qaida by promoting jihad online and seeking training in a terror camp.Tarek Mehanna is charged with conspiracy, providing material support to a terrorist group, and conspiracy to kill in a foreign country.Prosecutors say Mehanna translated publications and videos promoting violent jihad and posted them on the Internet, went to Yemen to try to join a terrorist training camp, and plotted to kill American soldiers in Iraq.Mehanna's lawyers, however, say his online activities are protected by the First Amendment. They say he went to Yemen to look for religious schools, not to get terrorist training.Jury selection is scheduled to begin Monday in U.S. District Court.
