SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Illinois is on the verge of becoming the only state that bars people from carrying concealed guns, a situation that advocates of gun rights are eager to change.Wisconsin was the only other hold-out, but legislators there have passed a concealed-carry law and the governor plans to sign it.Illinois stands alone for a mixture of reasons: a dynasty of powerful Chicago mayors, a strong gun-control movement, big legislative hurdles. But the National Rifle Association thinks it's only a matter of time. They argue that Illinois officials can argue that concealed-carry is dangerous when every other state has it. A new Chicago mayor could also shake up the status quo.Gun-control groups are bracing for a battle over concealed-carry by next spring, just as legislators face voters in primary elections.
