GOP's John Kasich begins term as Ohio governor

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Republican Ohio Gov. John Kasich (KAY-sihk) has pledged to devote his administration to helping Ohioans, not self interests.In remarks at his ceremonial swearing-in, the 58-year-old Kasich called his inauguration Monday every Ohioans' inauguration. He said he will rely on God, his family and the friends who have carried him through the years to do his best for the state.The event was marked by music and the Pledge of Allegiance recited by his twin daughters' elementary school class. On hand were dignitaries including U.S. House Speaker John Boehner (BAY'-nur) of Ohio, GOP U.S. Sen. Rob Portman; former Republican Gov. Bob Taft; and zookeeper and TV host Jack Hanna from the Columbus Zoo.
