OJ co-defendant gets date for plea deal in Vegas

LAS VEGAS (AP) — O.J. Simpson's former co-defendant has a date with a Nevada judge on a plea deal to avoid a retrial in their 2007 armed robbery and kidnapping case.Court officials say Clarence "C.J." Stewart is scheduled plead an equivalent of a no contest Tuesday in Las Vegas to felony robbery and conspiracy charges.Defense attorney Brent Bryson said Thursday that Stewart would be freed from prison to serve nine months of house arrest and an unspecified term of probation.Bryson says Stewart wants to live near his family in Louisiana.The Nevada Supreme Court granted the 56-year-old Stewart a new trial. It ruled he shouldn't have been tried alongside Simpson.The court upheld Simpson's conviction and nine-to-33 year sentence. His lawyers are seeking a rehearing.
