NEW YORK (AP) — Workers are racing to clear fallen branches and splintered trees from Central Park in time for this weekend's New York City Marathon.The inch or so of snow that fell over the weekend was so wet and heavy that it weighed down leaves and branches to the breaking point. The group that runs the park says it could lose 1,000 trees.The New York Road Runners organization puts on the marathon. Spokesman Richard Finn says "we feel very comfortable that things will be ready" for Sunday's big race.A five-mile marathon kickoff race that had been scheduled for Sunday was canceled. Finn says he is confident the other events leading up to the ING New York City Marathon will proceed.
