Dairese Gary scored seven of his 18 points in the final two minutes to help No. 19 New Mexico beat Dayton 68-66 on Friday night.

Darington Hobson added 15 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists for New Mexico, while Roman Martinez added 17 points and six rebounds.

Gary hit seven free throws down the stretch as the Flyers tried to get back in the game by fouling the Lobos (14-1).

Chris Johnson scored 11 of his 21 points in the final minute to lead Dayton (10-3), which saw its eight-game winning streak end.

The Flyers held a brief 37-36 lead early in the second half on London Warren's breakaway dunk. After another basket, New Mexico quickly answered on consecutive 3-pointers by Martinez.

Neither team really shot well, with UNM going 19 for 40 from the field and Dayton hitting a season-worst 21 of 62. The Flyers particularly struggled on 3-pointers, making 8 of 33, which also represented their worst shooting outside shooting this season.

The Lobos, however, had its troubles from the foul line, hitting 26 of 43. The Flyers owned a 43-32 rebounding advantage.

New Mexico also turned it over a season-high 19 times.
