The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency is starting a new program intended to reduce the number of steroid-tainted supplements on product shelves.
America's anti-doping agency unveiled the program, Supplement Safety Now, on Wednesday. The agency touted support from the NFL, Major League Baseball, the U.S. Olympic Committee and more than a dozen other sports organizations.
USADA CEO Travis Tygart says so-called designer drugs that were uncovered during the BALCO scandal in 2003 are now readily available on the Internet. He is seeking more effective state and federal regulations to prevent rogue manufacturers from selling steroids under the guise of supplements.
