Tyler Cope's 19-yard field goal with 34 seconds remaining lifted San Jose State to a 13-10 win over New Mexico State on Saturday night in Spartans coach Dick Tomey's final home game.
Quarterback Jordan La Secla came off the bench to pass for 154 yards and a touchdown, Lamon Muldrow rushed for 89 yards and San Jose's defense recorded a season-high four sacks while handing the Aggies their sixth straight loss.
Cope also kicked a career-long 46-yard field goal and had another blocked before his game-winner ended a five-game losing streak for San Jose State (2-9, 1-7 Western Athletic Conference) .
Seth Smith rushed for 120 yards for New Mexico State (3-9, 1-6).
Tomey, whose 183 wins are fifth most among active Division I coaches, announced earlier this year he would retire at the end of the season. He was chased and doused with a bucket of water following the victory.
