Freshman Katie Rutan scored a career-high 17 points Monday night, and No. 9 Xavier used its bench liberally while pulling away to a 92-52 victory over Mississippi Valley State.
Xavier (3-0) was coming off a 13-point win over then-No. 14 Arizona State and had travel in mind when it took the court. The Musketeers had a 5 a.m. bus to the airport on Tuesday for a flight to the Bahamas, where they will play No. 18 Kansas in a tournament.
They played like a team that wanted to get it over fast and get some rest, pulling ahead 35-9 as coach Kevin McGuff substituted freely. The 92 points were Xavier's most in two years.
The Devilettes (1-1) were led by Ashley Brown's 15 points.
