Sanchez Hughley had a double-double and four other Florida Atlantic players scored in double figures in an 81-69 win over American University on Saturday.
Hughley, who shot 6-for-10 from the floor, scored 15 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Owls (2-1). Raymond Taylor and Greg Gantt each scored 14 points, Shavar Richardson 12 had and DeMonte Simpson added 10.
Florida Atlantic outscored the Eagles 14-2 to close out the first half, taking a 36-20 lead on a 3-pointer by Taylor, who finished with seven assists. Richardson hit two 3-pointers during the run.
Gantt made a 3-pointer to push the Owls' lead to 51-29 with 14:18 left. The Eagles (0-4) cut Florida Atlantic's margin to four points with 1:42 left on Stephen Lumpkin's layup, but the Owls answered with eight straight points to pull away.
Lumpkin led American with 23 points and nine rebounds.
