DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — President Barack Obama is hailing Senate passage of a historic immigration bill that he says moves the country a step closer to fixing a broken immigration system.

Now he's calling on the House to do the same.

The president is also urging supporters to keep a, quote, "watchful eye." With the issue moving to the House, Obama says now is the time that opponents will try their hardest to block the bill from becoming law. He's asking supporters to tell their representatives in the House to vote for the bill.

The Senate vote Thursday was 68-32 in favor of the bill. The measure offers the hope of citizenship to millions and promises a military-style surge to secure the border.
