WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner says President Barack Obama is not standing up to his fellow Democrats as the clock ticks down on the dispute over the "fiscal cliff."
Boehner told reporters Thursday that Obama and Democratic lawmakers have been slowly edging the country toward falling off the cliff — the automatic spending cuts and tax increases that take effect in early January unless lawmakers head them off. He said Republicans have made every effort to reach an agreement with Obama.
But as for Democrats, he said, "They've done nothing."
However, Boehner says he's willing to continue working with Obama to find a deficit-cutting deal and avoid going over the cliff.
