President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama will honor the recipients of the Medal of Freedom at a White House ceremony Tuesday.
The Medal of Freedom is the nation's highest civilian honor. It's presented to individuals who have made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace or to cultural or other significant endeavors.
Among this year's recipients are former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, the first woman to hold the nation's top diplomatic post; John Glenn, the third American in space and the first American to orbit the Earth; and legendary musician Bob Dylan.
