WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has signed an executive order directing the Food and Drug Administration to take steps to reduce drug shortages. Before signing the order in the Oval Office Monday, Obama said the U.S. has recently seen how shortages of some drugs "can really have an adverse impact" on patients. He said Congress has been working on the issue but that "we can't wait for action on the Hill." He said the administration will still push for a bipartisan bill. The White House says the order will broaden reporting of potential shortages of certain prescription drugs and speed up regulatory reviews that can help prevent or respond to shortages. It's part of a White House effort to use executive action to get around congressional Republicans.
