Judge rejects Trump request to halt NY criminal sentencing

Mon, Jan 6, 2025 at 7:30 pm
A New York judge has denied Donald Trump’s request to halt Friday’s criminal sentencing. Trump’s lawyers asked Manhattan Judge Juan Merchan to stop the proceedings while they appeal a ruling that upheld the verdict. But Merchan rejected it. That means Trump is on course to be the first president to take office convicted of crimes. However, he can still ask the appeals court to delay sentencing or seek to have another court intervene. Last year, Trump was convicted on 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

Mon, Jan 6, 2025 at 3:46 pm
Senate Republicans are debating whether to attempt one or two reconciliation bills, that will allow them to pass key legislation without meeting the 60-vote filibuster threshold. But he tells the Salem Radio Network by putting all their eggs in one basket Republicans face the risk an overly ambitious bill might fail altogether.
President-elect Trump supports what he calls “ONE big, beautiful bill”, but says he’ll work with Republican leaders on the Hill to pass as much of his agenda as possible.

High Hopes for 2025

Wed, Jan 1, 2025 at 7:07 pm

Although 2024 didn’t rate very high in most Americans’ estimation, a new poll suggests that a majority expect much better in 2025. Details on this from reporter Bernie Bennett.

VERBATIM: The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that just five percent (5%) of American Adults rate 2024 one of the best years ever. Eleven percent (11%) think it was an excellent year and 20% rate 2024 a good year. However, 34% of Americans give 2024 a poor rating. The 36% who rate 2024 at least a good year is slightly up from last year, when 34% said the same about 2023.
