President Obama meets with efficiency award winner

APNews | Dec 21, 2009

President Barack Obama is sounding the theme of efficiency today.

The president meets privately with Nancy Fichtner, a Veterans Affairs Department employee from Colorado who's the first winner of the SAVE Award contest. SAVE stands for "Securing Americans Value and Efficiency."

Fichtner's award-winning suggestion: Veterans leaving VA hospitals should be able to take the medicine they've been using home with them instead of it being thrown away when they're discharged.

After the meeting, the president delivers remarks on making government more efficient and effective.
