Shoppers were online, not at malls, last weekend
CHICAGO (Reuters) - Many U.S. consumers stayed away from malls and headed online to take care of their holiday shopping last weekend as a major snowstorm hit the East Coast, data released on Tuesday showed. Retail sales on Saturday fell 12.6 percent, while traffic in U.S. stores fell 12.4 percent, according to ShopperTrak.
Nestle made misleading drink health claims: FDA
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Swiss food giant Nestle made misleading claims about the health benefits of some children's beverages, U.S. regulators said in letters released on Tuesday. The Food and Drug Administration, in a December 4 letter, said Nestle made unauthorized nutrient content claims on certain Juicy Juice products marketed for children under age 2.
Airlines add seats after snowstorm hits travel
ATLANTA (Reuters) - Major air carriers added extra flights on Monday to accommodate passengers whose travel plans were disrupted by a massive weekend storm that dumped as much as two feet of snow on the U.S. Northeast. The storm buried cities from Washington, D.C., to Boston, resulted in closures or significant delays at airports and forced hundreds of flight cancellations just days before Christmas.
FBI probes cyber attack on Citigroup: report
NEW YORK (Reuters) - The Federal Bureau of Investigation is probing a computer hacking that targeted Citigroup Inc and resulted in the theft of tens of millions of dollars, The Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, but the financial institution denied its systems had been breached. "There has been no breach and there have been no associated losses," Citigroup said in a statement.
Poll shows worry about swine flu shot persists
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Americans who were worried about the safety of the swine flu vaccine are still worried and it may not be easy to convince them to get themselves or their children vaccinated, researchers said on Tuesday. About 60 percent of parents polled say they plan to get their children vaccinated and 79 percent of adults will try to get the vaccines for themselves, but there is a hard core of resistance that has not been moved by entreaties by the U.S. government, pollsters said.
