TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — A close friend of wealthy biotech founder John Crowley says the New Jersey man portrayed in the movie "Extraordinary Measures" may challenge U.S. Sen. Robert Menendez in 2012.Friend Bill Spadea says Crowley, a Republican, is "seriously considering a run."After two of his children were diagnosed with a rare disease, Crowley left a high-paying job at Bristol-Myers Squibb to start a small firm researching a cure for Pompe (POM-pay) diseases.A treatment was developed that helped his children, and Crowley's story was portrayed in the 2010 movie that starred Brendan Fraser.Crowley has never run for office but his name was mentioned in several races in 2008. Speculation was renewed this spring when he took on a lesser role at his company.Crowley has not returned calls seeking comment in recent weeks.
