RESIGNING; Coal producer Alpha Natural Resources says chairman Michael J. Quillen will not stand for re-election at the company's 2012 annual meeting.
FORMATIVE YEARS: The 63-year-old Quillen formed Alpha Natural Resources in 2002. He led the company through its initial public offering in 2005 and more than a dozen mergers and acquisitions. Quillen has served as chairman since 2006 and as a board member since 2004.
SUCCESSOR: The board selected CEO Kevin S. Crutchfield to succeed Quillen immediately following the May 17 meeting.
