In a March 3 story, The Associated Press reported about BP PLC's settlement with businesses and individuals harmed by its 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. The story noted that BP was also responsible for pipeline disasters in Alaska in 2006, 2009 and 2011.
The story should have made clear that the 2011 spill of between 2,100 and 4,200 barrels of methanol, oil and water was significantly less than the earlier spills. The 2006 spill amounted to 200,000 gallons of oil and the 2009 spill was 13,500 gallons, according to BP.
