Officials at the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport say a record number of passengers traveled through the airport in 2011.
Last year's passenger volume increased 4.2 percent to just over 8.5 million, up from just over 8.2 million in 2010. There was a 4.1 percent increase in the number of people taking a flight out _ and a 3.7 percent hike in the number flying into the airport.
Southwest Airlines Co. was the volume leader carrying 32 percent of all New Orleans passengers _ about 2.7 million.
