California Attorney General Kamala Harris will lay off 102 sworn Department of Justice agents and 21 civilian employees next year because of budget cuts.

Spokeswoman Lynda Gledhill said Tuesday that's about half the 203 agents who originally were expected to be laid off.

Harris found money in her budget to retain some of the agents, but it's not yet clear how many programs run by the Division of Law Enforcement will survive.

The department still is ending its involvement in two-thirds of California's 52 drug- and gang-fighting task forces next year because of budget cuts.

There has been no decision whether the state will end its involvement in a program that clears marijuana groves or if the department will continue operating the nation's oldest prescription drug monitoring program.
