APNews | Dec 21, 2009

Affymetrix Inc. said Monday its partner TessArae received emergency Food and Drug Administration approval to market a swine flu diagnostic they say can identify swine flu in a single test.

The companies developed the TessArray RM-Flu test using Affymetrix's GeneChip technology. The approval will last until the end of the declared swine flu emergency, which is currently scheduled to expire April 26, 2010.

The test is performed on throat swabs taken from patients with respiratory infection symptoms.

Affymetrix shares rose 22 cents, or 4 percent, to $5.77 on Monday.
