Contractor's 100th windmill goes up in Maine

APNews | Dec 16, 2009

The contractor that's erected windmills across Maine has reached a big milestone.

Reed & Reed on Wednesday planned to put up its 100th windmill, weather cooperating. The turbine will go up at the Stetson II site, north of the Stetson Mountain wind farm that's already on line.

The Woolwich-based Reed & Reed has already erected the first 99 turbines in Mars Hill, Stetson, Kibby Mountain and Freedom, Maine; and also in Berkshire, Mass.

Reed & Reed President Jackson Parker said wind power carries on a legacy that started with Maine's wooden sailing ships. Parker says the first 100 wind turbines took about three years to bring online, but the next 100 should be operating in no more than two years.
