Department store chain J.C. Penney Co. said Tuesday it has appointed a co-founder of Oxygen Media, Geraldine Laybourne, to its board.

Laybourne was most recently CEO and chairman of Oxygen Media. She has also worked as president of Nickelodeon, as vice chairwoman of MTV Networks and as president of Disney/ABC Cable Networks.

Shares of J.C. Penney, which is based in Plano, Texas, fell 28 cents to $27.91 on Tuesday.
