New York Community acquired failed Ohio bank AmTrust Bank from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. over the weekend.
Terra Industries Inc., up $2.22 at $41.27
CF Industries Holdings Inc. sweetened its hostile takeover offer for the rival fertilizer maker, boosting the cash portion of its bid.
Continental Airlines Inc., down 84 cents at $15.90
The airline is planning a $200 million offering of convertible senior notes due 2015 for general corporate purposes.
Discover Financial Services, up 23 cents at $15.41
An analyst upgraded the credit-card lender and said loan-loss levels will be smaller than previously expected.
McDermott International Inc., up $2.20 at $22.86
The construction and engineering company plans separate into two companies, with existing shareholders owning 100 percent of both.
MetLife Inc., up 35 cents at $35.68
The life insurer projected fourth-quarter and 2010 operating earnings mostly above analyst estimates.
Cummins Inc., up $1.38 at $45.08
An analyst added the diesel engine maker to a list of favorite stocks, saying its poised to benefit from demand in emerging economies.
