Gov. M. Jodi Rell is calling the Connecticut General Assembly back to the Capitol for a special legislative session to consider her plan to cover the state's $466.5 million budget deficit.
Rell, a Republican, also wants the Democratic-controlled General Assembly to amend the state's campaign finance reform law, which provides public financing for state campaigns, so it will comply with a federal court ruling.
Rell has called for a Dec. 15 special session date. It remains uncertain whether the legislature will act on anything that day, however.
The governor unveiled a deficit-cutting plan on Tuesday that rolls back a planned sales tax cut, cuts state aid to cities and towns, and reduces spending to numerous state agencies. Most of the plan requires legislative approval.
