Rebecca Schneider was born in Parkersburg, W.Va., and now resides in Mesa, Ariz. She grew up near Pittsburgh, Pa., and earned a bachelor's in psychology in 1987 from Slippery Rock University.

Schneider took an interest in Democratic politics and formed alliances with community leaders, faith based groups, and first responders on various projects to benefit her community.

After moving to Arizona in 2001, she continued volunteering her time with groups including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity and Dogs Deserve Better. Schneider works with several animal rescue shelters to educate the public about adoption, spay and neuter programs and the importance of properly caring for pets in the hot Arizona climate.

Schneider works as an overnight supervisor for Arizona State University's libraries.

Profile

Rebecca Schneider became involved in community organizations while living in Pennsylvania, launching a project to improve relations between police and local school districts.

She made her first run for public office in 2008, losing to incumbent Republican Rep. Jeff Flake in a race for the Arizona's 6th District seat. She faces Flake again in the November 2010 general election.
