Profile

Paul Gosar is making his first run for political office, and has reached out to the tea party movement for support. He beat the establishment candidate, Sydney Hay, in the 2010 primary to win the Republican nomination for Arizona's 1st Congressional District.

Gosar is a dentist who wants less government interference in small business, and lower taxes. He is anti-abortion and believes life starts at conception. He opposed health care reform and the cap and trade bill, believing that the way the legislation was passed was wrong. He supports a law requiring a 72-hour waiting period between when a law is introduced and when it can be voted upon.

He is against amnesty for illegal immigrants, wants to secure the border and supports Arizona's new law cracking down on illegal immigrants. He has been endorsed by Sarah Palin and Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio.

He wants the 14th Amendment changed to stop children of illegal immigrants from automatically becoming citizens.

He also wants to see Congress pass a balanced-budget amendment.
