As a final turn of the screw, H.R. 800 would greatly increase the penalties for unfair labor practices committed by an employer during an organizing drive. Well, fair enough, perhaps -- but what about unfair practices committed by the union? EFCA doesn't mention that problem at all.
If all this begins to remind you of the Soviet Union, my compliments on your judgment. H.R. 800 is an outrageous assault on the whole principle of fair union organizing. Above all, it exposes every American worker to ferocious pressures to vote for a union, whether he or she wants one or not.
Unfortunately there are scores of members of Congress who are the compliant stooges of Big Labor on any subject that it considers important. In many cases, a huge portion of their campaign funds is contributed by unions. They will cheerfully sell out any worker who stands in the way of the unions getting what they want. The Employee Free Choice Act is a frontal assault on the entire concept of democratic governance, and it deserves to die a fiery death on the floor of Congress.
