The largest debts in U.S. history belong to the Democrats in Congress. Obama with his policies made it even worse than it otherwise would have been. In 2009, Obama president and the Democrats in charge of Congress for 2 years they had a $1.885 trillion deficit. This year it will probably hit $1.6 trillion. So, Obama in his first two years will had more than what Bush and the Republicans did in 6 years(even though the first two years of Bush Congress was split.)

Rule #2: When a republican president is in charge, spending is congress' fault (unless the congress happens to be republican controlled). In that case, apply rule #1.

If the taxing the rich is the solution to America's woes, or that of any country, then make sure more people get rich. This will expand the tax base and everyone will be the better for it.

"Redistributing the wealth" has never made more people rich, it just shifts the wealth around making some people richer at the expense of making others poorer. Charlie ... That is a good analogy about the vehicle. I'd like to add to it. Say the vehicle is a truck. The liberals keep adding more cargo in the truck, and now the capacity is being exceeded. They add more. Eventually, the truck breaks down, and no longer functions.

You analogy to government being the break is perfect. When the engine is running too fast the break has to be applied ever so gently, so the engine wouldn't stall.

The engine was sputtering due to the more than "normal" catastrophes that plagued the Bush administration {i.e. collapse of the tech stocks, 9/11, the NECESSARY war(s) to prevent another attack, followed by Katrina} and the addition of "fuel" (tax cuts for the "rich") was needed so the engine wouldn't stall. This is something Obama and the people who voted for him got it wrong. Now when the "engine" is starved (doubling government deficit) they still foolishly believe that "more break” (government spending) will correct the stalling...

We can grow our jobs by being competetive in the global economy. We need to export more products to balance the trade deficit. Also, the emerging economies grow faster than our mature economy, and exports will have the greatest growth if we are competitive.

We the people pay all direct and hidden indirect taxes, and we are the only ultimate source of all direct and hidden indirect tax revenue. Regardless where government initially collects it, all tax money ultimately comes from us, the people.
Since we the people are the one and only source of all tax revenue:
There should be only one tax to collect all tax revenue.
It should be a single, simple, fair, direct, individual, full-income tax levied on living persons (rates doubled for politicians) for each level of government: One Tax and Done.
Persons or corporations cannot start new businesses, expand existing businesses, increase jobs, and hire new employees, when the capitol used to operate the PRESENT businesses is taxed...

90% of increaed debt during 2000-2009 decade can be explained by the spending by Department of Health and Human Services.

H&HS spent $5.7 Trillion over the 10 year period. Debt increased by $6.3 Trillion in same 10 years. 5.7 / 6.3 = 90%.

H&HS doubles its spending every 10 years.

Obamacare will be making it much worse.

What is going to happen is the Bush tax code will be extended or even lowered for lower incomes, and the rates will be increased on the upper brackets and capital gains. Wage and salary earners can't escape taxes, the wealthy can. So the proposed changes will harm the economy and not raise any new revenue. The Republicans should forget about the Bush tax cuts and call for a major overhaul, spell it out and keep hammering. It won't happen, but it’s a teaching moment and makes it harder for them to back away from real reform when they take the house back. The American individual taxpayer and business taxpayers have continually been subjected to increased taxation resulting from our nation's accumulated debt that now exceeds $13 trillion. Another dishonest Republican article. The Republicans cut taxes and didn't pay for them with and cuts in spending. The deficit is increasing at an unsupportable rate and borrow and spend is not a solution. It wasn't a solution when Bush/Cheney were in charge and it is not a solution now. If you all remember, Cheney actually said that deficits don't matter and that's the way the Bush administration governed. These taxes had to be setup to expire due to conditions at the time the tax breaks were passed. These are not new taxes, just tax levels as they were during the Clinton years when we actually had a balanced budget and a surplus.

I think Greenspan is right because the tax cuts on the lower incomes would expire, and we would collect revenue, and people would realize that the "tax cuts for the rich" in fact weren't. The tax increases on the wealthy on the other hand won't collect any revenue but will have only a mildly distorting effect on the economy. The term trickledown economics is a sure sign of a partisan democrat who does not understand anything about market economics. Trickle down was when the feudal lords built stuff; the artisans got a piece of the action. The closet thing we have to that is Keynesian economics. Free market economics is trickle up.

Since Obama said at some point you have made enough money maybe we should start taxing all liberals wealth (not income) over $1 million. Then we could just redistribute it to everyone in the country.
