As he was presenting evidence of the Soviet Union aggressively putting nuclear missiles in Cuba, Adlai Stevenson said “Shall we have a look?” in showing the world the Communist aggression. Today, shall we have a look at the trajectory of the Democratic Party since the days of liberal Governor Stevenson?

In 1956, the Lord’s Prayer was sung to close the Democratic National Convention that nominated Governor Stevenson. In 2012 God’s name was, for the first time, removed from the Democratic Party Platform during the re nomination of Barack Obama.

In 1947, Democratic President Harry Truman recognized the State of Israel. In 2013, Obama sold out Israel to Iran.

In 1960, John Kennedy ran on building up America’s military. In 2013, Obama is gutting the military that fought so hard in America’s longest wars and is putting those heroes involuntarily into the streets.

In 1960 JFK, a life member of the National Rifle Association, spoke of the importance of the Second Amendment to the Constitution. Today, the Vice President tells nearly defenseless citizens to get merely a shotgun while his radical leftist allies clamor to take away proven methods of deterrent such as concealed carry, open carry, and duty to defend laws. It is also an interesting contrast that rich, liberal celebrities are able to obtain weapons while they hypocritically argue that the ordinary people should not be allowed to carry.

In 1961, President Kennedy stood up after the Bay of Pigs fiasco and said “I am the responsible officer of the government” and refused to publicly blame anyone else. Obama has his IRS officials and cabinet officers take blame. He blames technology or the government bureaucracy he helps to expand but he never takes absolute, sole responsibility the way Kennedy did. Obama even blames the American people and his predecessor into his second term (more on each of those below).

In the early 1960’s, the Justice Department was nearly the sole federal agency dedicated to ensuring all citizens being able to cast their ballots without fear. In 2009, Obama’s Justice Department dropped the voter intimidation case against the New Black Panther Party.

In 1962, though he disagreed with the idea of school prayer and had no idea of the future implications of the Supreme Court decision, President Kennedy said “We can pray a good deal more at home, we can attend our churches with a good deal more fidelity, and we can make the true meaning of prayer much more important in the lives of all our children.” Much worse than Romney’s 47 percent comment, Obama blamed the American people in 2008 calling them “bitter” and said implied that “guns and religion”, i.e. the first two amendments to the U.S. Constitution, were something bitter people cling to.

President Kennedy said tax cuts, both individual and corporate, were the “highest domestic priority” for 1963 in order to stimulate the economy. In Obama’s tenure, he raises taxes and promotes class warfare; dividing and weakening the country.

JFK consulted with Eisenhower and even Nixon, the man he defeated for the Presidency. Obama degrades his predecessor years into his term. (It is of note that former President Bush said that he did not feel it was for the good of the country for him to criticize President Obama, his successor.)

In 1967, Robert Kennedy spoke of government programs enslaving people and taking their dignity. For Obama, it is hard to think of any problem in which government does not have a role.

In 1968 RFK said “I don’t think we can tolerate lawlessness.” In 2013, Obama refuses to enforce laws regarding immigration and even parts of laws he himself has championed and passed; i.e. forced healthcare mandates.

In the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, leftists talked of radical methods of population control while expanding the social welfare state. Now there are less of a percentage of people working to support a growing senior population.

In the early 1970’s, Ted Kennedy was against abortion until he led the charge that has now given us a party that supports even the vile procedure of late term abortions in all circumstances.

The Democratic Party that grows ever more leftward is falling under its own weight. It cannot possibly meet all the commitments that it has promised. Even the gay rights agenda will not be able to compete in a Democratic Party that apologizes, embraces, and even encourages the installation of radical Islamic regimes that are, let’s just say, not quite so accommodating to gay people. Interest groups are prioritized as leftists gain power and only the powerful are spared from their version of what is best for our fellow citizens.

The policies of the Democratic Party and their radical leftist allies, that show no signs of stopping their “progression,” are hurting those whom Lincoln called the best kind of people, ordinary people; the people that are great because God made so many of them. Our people are increasingly hurt by the party that lied to them about where they would take them.

Years ago the radical leftist agenda was a concern to a smaller group of Conservative Americans such as Ronald Reagan, William F. Buckley, and Barry Goldwater. As Robert Kennedy once said, “The concerns of one inevitably become the concern of all.” Now, Senator Kennedy’s words ring true as an entire nation is seeing the failure of government intrusion instead of trusting the American people that made this nation great in the first place.
