Inside the Beltway reader Don Garlock wrote to us about the country's most famous war protester, who with her followers paid his city a visit:
"Cindy Sheehan was in downtown Lynchburg, Va., [Thursday] night. Police had to close 9th Street as well as Church, Main, Commerce and Jefferson streets. This is the heart of downtown and it was right at rush hour. Several waves of strong storms took care of the aliens."
We're told that the organization "Stop Her Now," its mission to expose New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton's liberal voting record, will fly a banner today above downtown Charleston, S.C., to help get everybody in the mood for this evening's Democratic presidential debate at The Citadel.
Meanwhile, a Hollywood contingent will be in South Carolina's "lowcountry" today to help stress the importance of childhood education in the 2008 presidential campaign, including Richard Schiff (The West Wing), Ernie Hudson (Desperate Housewives), Rhys Coiro (Entourage), and Rachel Shelley (Gray Matters, The “L” Word).
That was Washington politico-turned-public relations guru Christian Josi tearing around the racetrack at the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Mr. Josi actually turned four laps on the 2.5-mile oval, while steering an Indy 500-driven Dallara. He clocked an impressive speed that reached 140 miles per hour.
Curious about his desire to drive so fast, Inside the Beltway learned for the first time that Mr. Josi, when he isn't wearing his PR hat on Connecticut Avenue NW, moonlights under an undisclosed nom de plume as a columnist for a Motorsports publication.
"I just wanted to get a feel for what it's like for the drivers that I write about," he explains. "Oh, and I also wanted to do something cool for my birthday."
Besides being an avid race-car fan and columnist, Mr. Josi is senior vice president of Dezenhall Resources in Washington, a leading public relations and crisis-management firm.
