We should be electing Bean Counters, accountants, and CPA's, they wouldn't be so fast to spend money we don't have.

But who really thinks someone goes to Washington do good for their homefolks. They go there to get rich. They spend millions of dollars to get elected to a job that pays $200,000.00 per year.

NO. The CARS Act expressly provides that the credit is not income for the consumer.

Dallas - Of course the liberals want everything for free. That is why the Democratic Congress have added $9 trillion to the national debt while the irresponsible Republicans have added $3 trillion. Always something for nothing for their constituents.

Hmmm...in the past year, I have seen the $40,000 dollars I paid in Federal Income taxes in 2008 go to pay the mortgages of people who borrowed more than they could afford, and to help people buy cars that they probably would not have otherwise bought.

Sadly, the money I paid in taxes would have allowed me to buy a NICE new car for myself, but I had to help so many others instead.

Hey - here's an idea...why don't we pass healthcare reform so I can pay more taxes. How great would that make me feel?

Now that the popular program has ended, many dealerships are asking the federal government to "show me the money."

"Out of 142 deals they owe us for, we've gotten paid on seven," Lou Tornabeni of Ettleson Hyundai said.

This has been my observation ever since he started running. He is a puppet for those behind the curtain who pulls his strings. His teleprompters are his 'strings',also. When he reads it,it is someone else's words.

I doubt he or they thought there would be any opposition to their dastardly plots. They are learning that there is still a little life left in pro-American citizens.

I personally believe Obama has put himself in a position of deception during the election that he is incapable of facing the truth about his own policies. I still think he is an actor following a script. And not a very good actor at that. Someone or some group is pulling his strings on every move he makes. He seems to be bewidered & lost when his own words are repeated back to him.

Hey, h20skier and Jason, besides the "great deal" in this "cash for clunkers" you get to pay income taxes on the whole $4500, not just the $500 or $2000 actual profit. How many people are going to be so ecstatic next April 15??

You didn't make out as well as you think. If your clunker was worth $2500 you could have sold it for that amount to buy a new car. Therefore, the $4500 the government gave you only increased your trade-in by $2000. Now, the dealer either gave you $4500 for your car or $2500 not both. So, you didn't come out $7000 ahead just $2000.

If your old car was worth $4000 on the open market you would only come out $500 ahead while the government was still on the hook for $4500.

ROARING WITH LAUGHTER! So, Obama is going to give everyone a chicken in their pots!

I do forgive Jason's post though. He indirectly proved my point. He had the "opportunity" to at least try to create some benefit to him financially with the program, even though he didn't want a new car.

I didn't have a clunker so I couldn't maximize my "tax dollar" theft in any, way, shape or form.

Once again, the purpose of a republic is to protect property rights of all. They confiscated my tax dollars and then used them to reward some citizens.

Once again the government teaching its citizens how to "loot" from others with their help.

That's all this program was; reward dealers for the excess inventory because they couldn't afford to carry it; reward some citizens with a windfall of taxpayer money, and penalize the poor schlubb who didn't need a new car and had to pay his taxes anyway.

This people is MARXISM in mini-form.

Let me steal an idea from the incomparable Peter Schiff. If "Cash for Clunkers" was such a good idea, why not expand it to EVERY industry that's in trouble?

For example, we now have glut of "old clunker" homes on the market. Following the logic of the "cash for clunkers" program, we should PAY people to "trade in" their old "clunker" of a house, and get back in debt up to their eyeballs on a brand new home they can't afford.

But it doesn't stop there. One of the requirements of "cash for clunkers" was the old car be RENDERED INOPERATIVE. No selling a perfectly good, though well-used, old car to poor folks who could use it! We want to SHRINK the market in affordable, used cars! Dealers were ordered, under penalty of law,...

It is the banks problem, and i don't think bailing them out correct.

I also dont think you should complain when they come repo the house, as its not yours until you PAY FOR IT.

As an aside; the Government (Fanny and Freddy) bought up half these loans, no questions asked.
In fact they pushed banks to make loans to people who could not afford it...

The government confiscates money, selects some spectial interest group, and gives it away. Minus the expense of collecting and disbursing it, of course. Then, they look for the next interest group to favor, meanwhile collecting heavy bucks from people hoping to be on the receiving end. CFC is another unfunded liability. Like every government giveaway it HAS to cost more than it helps. It postpones nemesis, meanwhile making it worse. Its robbing Peter to pay Paul, which means you can always depend on Paul's vote. The rub is that we are all Paul, except the government employees and legislators getting rich for directing the flow.

Let's examine this "success" which had to be discontinued prior to its announced discontinuation date not once but twice.

As of August 16, only TWO PERCENT of claims filed by auto dealers (you know...where they GET THEIR MONEY BACK?) have been honored by the Feds.

Four of Five applications have been rejected due to minor issues. (Due to the onerous paperwork.)

In this THREE BILLION dollar program, processing upwards of 700,000 claims, there are LESS THAN THREE HUNDRED people staffing the program.

Now. There's a bunch of people with new cars. Do you think they'll buy another one next year? Do you see a downturn in new car sales in the near future?
