Potential tax fraud is worthy of an investigation. If the IRS found out that your accountant was potentially giving erroneous and illegal tax advice it would allow for an investigation. I agreed with you before. I will agree again. There is probably not enough evidence on the tape to convict of a crime. However, there is PLENTY of evidence to substantiate opening an investigation. It was a very simple sting operation. None of the ACORN employees was pushed at all into the things they volunteered. They showed themselves willing to aid and abet an obviously criminal enterprise. This wasn't a case where they were cajoled into what they did and said, and it wasn't a matter of working some ethically marginal angle that might or might not be lawful.

It showed ACORN as an organization that, if not organized for criminal purposes, has been a safe harbor for criminal enterprises.

However, you have not yet acknowledged that in the Baltimore office alone (every office has similar situations) the "tax expert" representing ACORN gave them tax advice on how to file their taxes for an illegal prostitution business. If you truly can justify the innocence or ACORN and you believe they are not corrupt, then you either have not watched the tapes or you need to reevaluate your own moral and civil standards. (Personally I'd like to believe you haven't watched the tapes). As I said earlier, there may not be enough to convict the organization, but there is certainly enough evidence to investigate ... if for no other reason than tax fraud. The reality of the situation is not whether or not there was fraud or corruption in ACORN because there was. The truth is there is no way to investigate ACORN without bringing our President under suspicion for being so closely tied to the organization. So they won't.

William, I am no lawyer, but I think the local DA's are going to look at these tapes, pull in the employees who were shown discussing how to get the proposed brothel off the ground, and threaten them with prosecution, then offer immunity to them to testify against the ACORN leadership.
