“We are not at war with the Muslim faith.” So say various members of the media and government, either because they actually believe it, or because their blind adherence to political correctness dictates as much.
I know a number of Muslims in this country, and the farthest thing from their minds is joining or assisting a terrorist organization, or harming anyone. They just want to make a living, raise their children, and live in peace.
Of course, before the subway bombings of July 7, 2005 in London, or the multiple arrests in England recently of British born Muslims preparing to kill as many as 3,000 innocent people on board a number of airliners, I suspect most non-Muslims who knew the men involved in those atrocities and planned atrocities, would have said the same as me: “…they just want to live in peace.”
Talk with the British government, and at least off the record, they will tell you they have a serious and growing problem with “home grown Muslim fanatics.” Last year, after the horrific London subway bombings, a “moderate” Muslim cleric in England said he was disappointed that Muslims had carried out the bombings. Not, as it turns out, because he mourned the loss of innocent life, but rather, because in his estimation, it was a waste of time. That in twenty or thirty years, Muslims would be the majority population in England and would be able to control the government. A fate that is said to also await France and Germany.
If home grown Islamists ready to kill in the name of God, are on the rise in Europe, what then of our nation? Do we face a similar threat? Commonsense would say “yes,” while political correctness would order us to ignore the possibility.
I maintain that 99% of the population of anything as a whole, is good and just trying to do the right thing. That certainly includes the Muslim faith in the United States. I strongly believe that the overwhelming majority just want to be good citizens and good neighbors.
That said, if we accept the estimate that there are 6 million Muslim-Americans in our country, and 99% of them are law abiding citizens who are loyal to our nation, then that means that there may be – may be -- 1% who might put a twisted version of Islamic extremism before the wellbeing of their fellow Americans. When you stop to think that 1% of 6 million is 60,000 individuals, that then seems like a very intimidating one percent.
Let’s go to the good side of extreme and say that 99.9 percent of all Muslim-Americans would never turn on their own government. That would still leave a questionable 1/10th of one percent – or 6,000 potential terrorist sympathizers. Even if we carve in granite that 99.9 percent of Muslim-Americans are beyond suspicion, the left wing of our media and government will still not let us question the motives of that 1/10th of one percent. Even with the evidence of England under their eyes.
During the “war” between Israel and Hezbollah, mostly Muslim-Americans and their sympathizers, protested outside of the White House against Israel and the United States. For the most part, the mainstream media ignored the fact that almost 10,000 of these protesters were shouting, “Rah, rah, Hezbollah! Long live Hezbollah!”
Make no mistake, these were your fellow citizens cheering a terrorist organization that has already proudly killed hundreds of Americans. If they would cheer such a despicable group, what else might they do for them or Al Qaida? A logical question that political correctness forbids us to ask.
The intelligence operatives of the British government would also tell you that they most worry about Muslim men in their 20’s. That they are the ones most likely to buy into the militant propaganda spewed by the Islamists.
If that is so, what are we to make Muslim-American men in their 20’s who were recently caught with over 1,000 cell phones (cell phones are often used to detonate improvised explosive devices), thousands of dollars in cash, and airline passengers lists? Maybe it’s all a big mistake or maybe it says “where there are a few, there could be a few hundred.” For the sake of national security, don’t we have a solemn duty to investigate? Should not Muslim-Americans demand that we investigate?
We may not be at war with the Muslim faith, but we are certainly in a deadly battle with a twisted segment of that faith. The terrorists who wage that battle day and night against us, pray that we will remain in denial of that fact just long enough.
Long enough so they can launch unimagined attacks here in the United States.
