I read and reread Catstrophe. You called EVERYTHING this "boob" of a POTUS is and has been fostering. Therefore, I say to young readers, "Listen to what Mr. Morris is saying!"
However, the generation that put Obama in the Whitehouse is SO enamered with him, that I'm afraid they won't pay attention until taxes go up and the ensuing inflation makes it impossible to afford the purchase of real property.
In 1980, I bought my first home. I had to do an interest only loan for six years at 12%. That was considered quite q coup with fixed rates at 17%. This Obama fellow will make Jimmy Carter seem like Reagan by the time he's through.

Most people are happy with their insurance until they actually have to use it for something that's chronic or if they have to change jobs. Many families and small businesses are experiencing double digit increases in their insurances as we speak... I don't think that makes themm Happy.

The bottom line is that over the last decade insurance premiums doubled and deductibles doubled too. If that trend continues you, nor many other folks, will be too happy the cost.

They are dangerous, but the fact that the "kids" or the "young" will have to start paying taxes as early as January, and since most of them are very unaware of how the world works, it will come as a huge shock to them that whatever pie in the sky benefit that they have been told they will receive will not come to them until 4 years in the future.

Oops! Mid-term elections are 8 months later. Just enough time for things to begin to boil, more than they are now.

It could get ugly, but sometimes the body causes its own temperature to rise in order to kill off an infection.

The majority have them have never been denied anything. This will be a shock like nothing they have seen in their very short lifetimes, where as...

I have to wonder, why it is that government can take a problem and enact legislation to fix it, and invariably make it much worse. More times than not, that is the outcome that I see from Congressional meddling. I don't know if that is just the law of unintended consequences or not, but more times than not, I wish that they would just leave us to take care of our own problems.

So lets revamp the whole system to take care of that 15%, and from what I understand, the proposals will include less than half of those that are now uninsured, and a large percentage of those of us that are happy, will not be after the changes.

What we need is Catastrophic Policies for Healthcare. I know we may be TOO FAR DOWN THE GOVTL ROAD but if Americans could buy across state lines for competitive policies that cover only Major Surgeries (and pay out of pocket for colds, broken arms, tests - all the 'little' stuff plus thereby choosing by INDIVIDUAL ability to pay how much we USE) it would bring costs down. It's like Homeowners' Insurance; you pay for Fire Coverage, not for every time you need to replace your faucet or fix a broken window... I'm not sure it's that simple (people and employers dropping coverage in favor of $750 fine). Currently (at least in my state, WA, where we already have sensible laws dealing with pre-existing conditions, and at least for small businesses) insurance companies require a certain percentage of employees to be covered (at least 75%). Unless you have at least that percentage who either sign up or waive to other GROUP coverage, you can't get insurance for your employees at all. And the employer has to pay at least half (for some insurance companies, a bigger percentage) of the rate for a single employee (of the least expensive plan the employer offers).

Regardless, a lot of people will have serious difficulty affording coverage....

If Democrats need to appeal to Independents and moderates to hold their majorities, then passing this bill is a terrible idea. The most recent polling shows that 81% of Republicans and 69% of Independents oppose the healthcare plan (with 74% of Republicans and 57% of Independents strongly opposing it). With majorities of Independents strongly opposed to the bill, it's really hard to imagine any boost in Democratic turnout from passing the plan being enough to surpass the ensuing backlash from Republicans and Independents.

It isn't even clear that there will be a boost in Democratic turnout. The latest version of the Senate bill holds little appeal for progressives. As I noted on the blog, without a public option, this bill...

a raw deal but so is everybody else.

Seniors and special needs will undoubtedly be slighted on treatments. I doubt there will be much money left over for research.

Young people are already complaining about having to pay for seniors.......as if those seniors haven't paid for their education, etc, for years......not to mention served in the military and fought in wars for us. It's all sad.

I never thought I'd ever see our government ignoring the Constitution and ramming bills through and ignoring the wishes of the people like this administration is doing. Blatant bribery and lies, lies, lies.

In those real first 10 years (2014 to 2023), Americans would have to pay over $1 trillion in additional taxes, over $1 trillion would be siphoned out of Medicare (over $200 billion out of Medicare Advantage alone) and spent on Obamacare, and deficits would rise by over $200 billion. They would rise, that is, unless Congress follows through on the bill's pledge to cut doctors' payments under Medicare by 21 percent next year and never raise them back up -- which would reduce doctors' enthusiasm for seeing Medicare patients dramatically.

And what would Americans get in return for this staggering sum? Well, the CBO says that health care premiums would rise, and the Chief Actuary at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services says...

The Congressional Budget Office's score is in for the final Senate health bill, and it's amazing how little Americans would get for so much.

The Democrats are irresponsibly and disingenuously claiming that the bill would cost $871 billion over 10 years. But that's not what the CBO says. Rather, the CBO says that $871 billion would be the costs from 2010 to 2019 for expansions in insurance coverage alone. But less than 2 percent of those "10-year costs" would kick in before the fifth year of that span. In its real first 10 years (2014 to 2023), the CBO says that the bill would cost $1.8 trillion -- for insurance coverage expansions alone....

Make sure that your health habits are good. I could do better myself, and plan to work in that direction.

It won't be different- it'll be worse. Much worse. Overall, many people have abdicated responsiblity for their decisions and lives. Health is no different; the fat will be fatter, the careless procreators will continue to have as many babies as happen to pop out; the former will continue to look to others to pay for their results and to a healthcare system to make them well enough to keep being destructive. The burden of Obamacare will fall on the young who are already under financial strain to pay off student loans and make ends meet while working their way up the economic ladder.

Now they will have an additional burden of being forced to buy pricey health insurance.

When I was in my 20s I did not buy health insurance as I needed the money to buy food and pay the rent.

All those young people who voted for Obama and think he is the messiah are going to have a big shock when their hefty health insurance tax comes due.

Another positive thing I've noticed happening during the past year is that the American people have actually started to pay attention to The US Constitution, The Declaration of Independence, The Bill Of Rights, and The Articles of Conferation as never before.
