Will Congress pass Obamacare by the end of the year?

Complaints about racism dominate the media discussion of the disparity between black and white success in America. Comedian Chris Rock captures the prevailing sentiment between both races when he tells white audiences, "None of ya would change places with me and I'm rich! That's how good it is to be white!"

A white author, Tim Wise, gets applause from students on American campuses for talking about "white privilege." Wise's message is in huge demand -- he does 80 speaking engagements a year. When we taped an appearance at Skidmore College, students of all races praised him as "eloquent," "phenomenal," and "so on point."

But among some black intellectuals a new perspective has emerged, one that puts racism and "white privilege" low on the list of problems plaguing black Americans. Shelby Steele's latest book, "White Guilt", argues that whites do blacks no favors wringing their hands about white privilege.

"I grew up in segregation," Steele said during my interview with him."So I really know what racism is. I went to segregated school. I bow to no one in my knowledge of racism, which is one of the reasons why I say white privilege is not a problem."

Steele claims, "the real problem is black irresponsibility," which has produced high illegitimacy and high-school dropout rates that limit black progress. "Racism is about 18th on a list of problems that black America faces," he says.

Steele says too many blacks and whites are stuck in the old conversation, as though it was 1950. And he thinks there are questionable motives for this on both sides: "If we can get a big discussion going about what white privilege is, we never have to look at what blacks themselves are doing. And black responsibility. How are we contributing to our own problems? How are we holding ourselves back? Why don't our children do better in school than they do?"

Whites' preoccupation with guilt and compensation such as affirmative action is actually a subtle form of racism, Steele says. "One of the things that is clear about white privilege, and so many of the arguments for diversity that pretend to be compensatory, is that they advantage whites. They make the argument that whites can solve [black people's] problems. ... The problem with that is ... you reinforce white supremacy all over again. And black dependency."

Steele says that when blacks make racism their central focus, they mire themselves in destructive victimization -- and sabotage their own chances for advancement. Continued...

And another thing
A prevalent trend among blacks, is the lack of unmarried parents. If a couple stays together happily, much more stable offspring are prevalent. The large percentage of single parent families is one of the biggest problems with AMERICA today,in my opinion. If every child was raised in stable happy homes, with parents who love each other and their children, putting needs ahead of wants, the children grow up learning the importance and ease (over time)of putting needs ahead of wants and doing for others because you love them, I think AMERICA JUST MIGHT POSSIBLY BENEFIT!

double standards and welfare separates
A big problem with AMERICA, if not the world, is the doggone double standards the liberals nag us into tolerating.
Unfortunately, in the world today, the most successful segment of society cannot say or do any little thing, any part of a less successful segment might possibly consider the least bit disrespectful to anyone they have ever heard of. At the same time, the less successful segments can say anything they want about the most successful segment. This creates a double standard that can be used to a considerable advantage by someone with low morals. The most important trait a person can have is , in my opinion, self respect. A person with self respect will not be shaken by anything anyone says about them, unless they are running for office. It is detrimental to a person's self respect to give them unnecessary aid to live their life. On the other hand, a little direction can enable someone to do something they never thought they would be able to do, which could give them such a boost in confidence that nearly anything becomes possible. Giving them a free ride, however, promotes lack of ambition, a sense of entitlement, and a lack of self respect, which can lead to resentment and even hate for the very hand that 'helps' them. Often a person like this will be offended every time the wind changes direction. An easily offended person often considers themselves inferior to the person who offends them. A person with self respect will tend to avoid them to keep from offending them, thus leading to segregation. Many people, who are less successful, in their opinion, than others, are resentful of people whom they consider to be better off than they are. But, often they don't intend to put forth the effort necessary to legally become the people they are so envious of. This is usually why someone, who actually has the same opportunity for success as anyone else, falls behind. While it is true that some people get a head start on others, this is usually due to effort a relative exerted, over and above the effort of relatives of the less fortunate. A person's success is almost always do to greater effort than the less successful's. This can be compounded when, generation after generation, less successful people rationalize their position in life by criticizing people they are envious of. Often, they will exaggerate, present rumor or conclusion as fact, or if necessary, lie through their teeth in order to make it ok, in their twisted mind, to not even try, legally, to bridge the gap between where they are and where they want to be. Some are so far behind ,due to generations of this mind set and the resulting lack of effort, that it will take generations to catch up. They use the seemingly unbearable time and effort as an excuse not to even try. Instead , they criticize the people they envy in an attempt to rationalize their perceived inferiority and misery. This leads to being so resentful of people they actually look up to, they are so easily offended it is hard to talk to them at all, thus the futility of negotiating with people who are so resentful of others, they want to kill the people they actually feel so inferior to, they have become irrational, often irreversibly. This also explains the low-down, sleazy, cheesy, unconscionable, dirty tricks pulled by the Democrats, election after election. While, at the same time, they hold the REAL AMERICANS (Republicans) to extra high standards they themselves are incapable of obtaining.
