Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

Having spent a good bit of ink and space critiquing the president's war policy, I decided to do what many voters do at this point in the election cycle: pay close attention to what politicians say. Take House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, for instance. On "60 Minutes" recently, Pelosi offered her take on the so-called war on terror -- which does not, she explained, extend to Iraq.

"Do you not think that the war in Iraq, now, today, is the war on terror?" Lesley Stahl asked.

"No. The war on terror is the war in Afghanistan," Pelosi replied.

"But don't you think the terrorists have moved into Iraq now?" Stahl continued.

"They have," Pelosi agreed. "The jihadists (are) in Iraq. But that doesn't mean we stay there. They'll stay there as long as we're there."

We stay. The "jihadists" stay. We go. They go. (Never mind resident death squads.) There's a certain logic to Pelosi's strategy that is practically feasible -- so long as the tooth fairy isn't busy. But such fairy tales are no substitute for foreign policy.

Not that Pelosi fancies herself a grand strategist. "Ask Nancy Pelosi to describe herself," says Stahl, "and the first thing out of her mouth is that ..."

Suspense: Is it that she is the increasingly familiar face of the Democratic Party? Potentially the first woman Speaker of the House?

Nope. That first thing out of Pelosi's mouth is that "she's a mother of five and a grandmother of five." This is quite often the first thing out of her mouth -- so often, perhaps, that its very repetitiveness may explain a recent news item. Earlier this month, while demanding a House Ethics Committee investigation in the ex-Rep. Mark Foley scandal, "Pelosi was booed by Republicans when she mentioned that she is a mother of five and a grandmother," reported the Seattle Post Intelligencer.

Now I can relate. After all, it's countdown time to Election Day, Iraq is chaotic, our own country has no control of its borders, and the leading elected Democrat in the land wants voters to know she's ... a mommy and a granny? Back to Stahl's interview: "As she's poised to go down in history books if the Democrats win the House -- suddenly (thankfully) a genuine "if" again -- "what Nancy Pelosi wants you to know is...."

No suspense this time. In these, the politics of personal distraction, what Pelosi wants you to know are not her far-left views on immigration, national defense, homosexual marriage, etc. "When it comes to her real goal in life, she's just like any other woman her age," Stahl, um, reports. "I'm a grandmother," Pelosi says. "It's great. It's fabulous. It was my goal in life and now I've achieved it."

How great; how fabulous -- but Speaker of the House? This is the voice of the professional woman -- or, rather, the Professional Woman, the kind of gal who brings sex (her own) into everything. Even into the job of Speaker of the House. "I think the fact that I am a woman will raise expectations in terms of more hope in government, and I will not disappoint," Pelosi "explained" to the Los Angeles Times. Oh, brother.

There's more: "The gavel of the speaker of the House is in the hands of special interests, and now it will be in the hands of America's children. I don't mean to imply my male colleagues will have any less integrity.... But I don't know that a man can say that as easily as a woman can."

Frankly, I don't know that a man can say that as easily, either -- or anyone else for that matter. And how did "America's children" get into it?

This is another one of Pelosi's precious catch-phrases, usually connected by suffering to Republicans, as in: "Mr. Speaker, as we leave for this Christmas recess, let us say, `God bless you' to the American people by voting against this Republican budget and statement of injustice and immorality, and let us not let the special interest goose get fat at the expense of America's children."

Say "God bless you" by voting against the GOP budget? Interesting way of worshipping Pelosi's got there. Meanwhile, if the lady has her way, the gavel will soon be in the hands of "America's children." And that would surely mean the nation's goose is cooked.

Best quote of the day
"the gavel is in the hands of the children..."

Won't that be the truth. Now if a Republican were to say that, we'd be monsters. So we should just replay that clip for her, every day 12 hours a day for the next ten days.

Seems to me.....

Once upon a time a person elected by the people were expected to vote according to those who are represented by that person. His/her views on the subject being voted on are not material to that elected persons vote.

This is what I understend by a republic versus a democratic form of government. If one man one vote becomes the rule, lets all vote for no taxes and higher benefits and we'll all be rich - right? And then there is the tooth fairy.

incessant pounding
"The gavel of the speaker of the House ... will be in the hands of America's children."

When a child picks up a gavel, the responsible thing for the adult to do is to remove it from her grasp and place it beyond her reach.

(Aunt B's "...kiss the boo boos...": priceless.)

The electorate
The electorate and the conduct of elections needs to be seriously scrutinized if a Pelosi is what it produces. In a world where evil people plot death and mayhem and real citizens are called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice in our defense, this nation cannot afford to select immature adolescents for decision making roles.

What it comes down to is that about 20% of the voting population, that hasn't a clue about what the issues are all about, are deciding the political questions still left to the general public. They vote for who will offer them the biggest goody bag, who's most attractive or simply at random.

It seems to me that there should be a competency exam involved in voting - and the right should be earned as a measure of seriousness (service: public, military, community, etc.). Why shouldn't this be? Some people produce and contribute much while others simply consume everything in sight. Why should these derelicts be allowed to vote themselves more of what's in someone else's pocket.

This business of universal suffrage is a cruel joke and never was the intent of the founding fathers. The most laughable part is that illegal aliens can not even be informed that, by voting, they commit an illegal act. We must not offend or intimidate, you know.

The US is a boat that's swamped. If you aren't assisting in keeping it afloat, you are helping to sink it. Sooner or later these issues will have to be confronted and some dead weight is going to have to be thrown overboard.

And we will have deserved the ensuing weeping, wailing, and chaos simply because we were incapable of disciplining ourselves beforehand.

The choir already knows the notes
Great article, as always. Sadly, however, the real problem is not so much Mrs. Pelosi as it is the communications crisis we have now. We, the choir (the 35% conservative block), as well as the left choir (the 15% liberal block) are already informed as to Mrs. Pelosi's world view and will vote accordingly. The problem is the other 50%, many if not most of whom, get their news and world view from puff pieces such as this.
There is absolutely nothing out there in the MSM that objectively compares the Pelosi take on issues to her conservative counterpoint so as to provide for an informed opinion. Saw the 60 Minutes piece with someone who is one of the 50% and her take was roughly, "Gutsy, no-nonsense, down to earth lady who calls it just the way she sees it. You go, girl." If I didn't have alternative news sources that would probably be my reaction too. Getting honest info out to the great majority in a digestible manner is our biggest problem.

Yep, put the kids in charge of the candy
""The gavel of the speaker of the House is in the hands of special interests, and now it will be in the hands of America's children."

That is exactly the scenario we ought to anticipate if we bypass the adults and put the teenagers in charge. Look around the world today, especially the newspapers, and tell me if the teenagers you see therein are qualified to run a lemonade stand, much less the last superpower on earth. Heck, they'll drink all the lemonade, smash up the lemonade stand, and then squall because they're broke and thirsty and "somebody" Owes Them a new fully stocked lemonade stand....

I am a professional in two fields of endeavour and a woman of Nancy Pelosi's age, and if I hear the phrase "America's Children" again I think I will do a Naomi Campbell. I do not want the world to be run by America's Children, nor do I want it babyproofed.

Keep the adults in charge. Please.

Pelosi
Pelosi says the most imortant thing about her is that she is a grandmother. Why do i believe anyone who treats her first like a grandmother will make her mad as HeII? Just like any man in her position, she is first a power hungry narcissist.
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
This is the way the world ends
Not with a bang, with a whimper!

That’s it???
So if Pelosi gets her way, rather than charging us to hold hands and sing “Kum Ba Yah,” Granny Nancy will offer to kiss the boo-boos of the world and make them all better? Good grief…

Nancy is a Grandma!
Spread the word everyone. Nancy Pelosi is a grandma. Oh frabjous day! Caloo! Calay!

Spread the word! After all, it IS the first thing she wants us all to know about her.

Pelosi
Nancy is a twit.
