Do you feel the leaked information from a global warming alarmist organization is meaningful?

Bestselling author Dinesh D’Souza sat down with Townhall.com to discuss his recently released book, The Enemy At Home – The Cultural Left and Its Responsibility for 9/11, where he shows the connection between the cultural left’s attack on traditional American values and the growing hostility by Muslim extremists towards the United States.

Townhall.com: When did you first recognize the inherent connection between our “enemy at home” and our enemies abroad? And what ultimately compelled you to write this book?

DSOUZA: Initially I did not see the connection because, like a lot of other conservatives, I was trapped in Samuel Huntington’s “clash of civilizations” model. If you adopt this then there are only two sides: us and the Muslims. But when you realize that our side is divided into left and right, and their side is divided into traditional Muslims and radical Muslims, then the equations change. The Islamic radicals and the American left are polar opposites in the kind of society they want. One wants sharia and the other wants a libertine society with abortion on demand and gay marriage. And yet, the two have a common interest in defeating Bush’s war on terror.

This book grew out of a study that I began after 9/11 on the Islamic thinkers who are shaping radical opinion in the Muslim world. I realized that what these people were saying was entirely different than the motives ascribed to them by both the American right and the American left.

TH: How do you distinguish the “cultural left” from the Democratic Party and liberals in general? Who are the most influential and most damaging leaders within this movement?

DSOUZA: By the cultural left I mean the left wing of the Democratic Party. I am referring to people like Nancy Pelosi, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy, Barney Frank, George Soros, Michael Moore, Noam Chomsky, and Cindy Sheehan. I also want to include various left-wing organizations such as the ACLU, moveon.org and so-called human rights groups like Human Rights Watch. There are also some Republicans who take a left-wing stance on foreign policy and social issues, and so they too fall into this camp.

TH: Why is the cultural left so reluctant to fight the terrorists and export “a more liberal set of values, such as self-government, minority rights, and religious tolerance?” How have cultural relativism and multiculturalism affected this reluctance?

DSOUZA: It might seem at first glance that the cultural left should be in the forefront to fight radical Islam. The reason is that Bin Laden and the Islamic radicals are so illiberal. They despise women’s rights and gay rights. I think we all know what they would do with Hillary Clinton or Barney Frank. Even so, the cultural left has shown itself extremely reluctant to support Bush’s war on terror. They aren’t just against the Iraq war, they are against the Patriot Act, and the telephone surveillance program, and the invasion of Afghanistan, and the sanctions proposals against Iran’s nuclear program. In short, they want Bush’s war on terror to fail. And this means that they want the Islamic radicals to succeed.

Why? The reason actually has nothing to do with cultural relativism or multiculturalism. It has everything to do with domestic politics. Basically the left hates Bush more than it hates Bin Laden. Bin Laden is a foreign threat, but Bush is a domestic threat. In the last couple of decades the left-wing agenda has become increasingly dominated by social and sexual concerns. So who threatens abortion rights in America? Not Bin Laden, Bush. Who is blocking gay marriage? Not Al Qaeda, Bush’s court appointees. While Bin Laden wants sharia in Baghdad, Bush and the religious right are, in the leftist view, trying to impose sharia in Boston. Consequently the left is quite willing to ally with the lesser evil, the Islamic radicals, in order to defeat the greater evil, Bush and the conservatives.

TH: What is wrong with the conservative attitude towards September 11 and the War on Terror? What illusions have stood in the way of victory?

DSOUZA: Somewhat like the mosquito at the nudist colony, I’m not sure where to begin. The right is still trying to find “liberals” in the Muslim world. News flash: there aren’t any. Not enough to count. The right has also been trying for several years now to convince the liberals and the left that Bin Laden and the Iranians don’t really like them. I think the left already knows this. Yet we have not seen a crowd of leftists rushing over to our side. Obviously the left is pursuing a different strategy.

Even the conceptual conservative underpinning of the war on terror is suspect. The Islamic radicals aren’t enemies of modernity. They aren’t against science, they aren’t against capitalism, and today they aren’t even against democracy. Why should they be? When you have free elections in the Muslim world, the Islamic radicals have a good chance of winning. Look at Hamas. Look at the success of the Muslim Brotherhood candidates in the Egyptian parliamentary elections. And while Bush goes around calling for democracy, do you think he would for one minute entertain the thought of allowing a free election in Saudi Arabia, an election the Bin Laden guys might win.

TH: What does the cultural left seek to gain from an American withdrawal from Iraq and a losing the War in general?

DSOUZA: The same thing that the left gained from Vietnam. We say America lost the Vietnam war, and this is true, but the left won the Vietnam war. The left wanted America to accept humiliation and withdraw, and America accepted humiliation and withdrew. Not only was this a stunning foreign policy victory for the left, disabling America from seriously intervening abroad for almost a generation, but Vietnam also paid other dividends. A whole generation of liberal Democrats, the so-called Class of 1974, swept into Congress. Moreover, the antiwar movement greatly fortified the counterculture. It strengthened the feminist movement, the gay rights movement, and the sexual revolution. So Vietnam was not only a foreign policy success but also a political success and a cultural success.

TH: What does the military war against the terrorists abroad have in common with the cultural war with the left at home? Why is it that we cannot win the war against Islamic radicalism without first defeating the cultural left?

DSOUZA: Consider the war in Iraq. This war is tough going in Iraq. But it is even tougher going in America. The war is being lost not on the streets of Baghdad but right here in America. It is the cultural left that is doing Bin Laden’s work for him. There is no way that Bin Laden could persuade America to give up on the war on terror and get out of Iraq and the Middle East. Fortunately for Bin Laden he has a whole political movement in the United States that is dedicated to exactly this objective. So how can Bush expect to win over there when he is losing over here? In Vietnam the military won the Tet Offensive, but here in America it was portrayed in the media as a humiliating defeat. In fact, Tet became a symbol of American failure. So Bush had better wake up to the fact that he is facing two enemies, an enemy abroad and an enemy at home

TH: In The Enemy At Home, you deny the now-familiar claim that radical Islamists hate us because of our freedom and you argue that their hatred is “not a product of ignorance but of familiarity.” How do these conclusions change the way we fight this war of two fronts?

DSOUZA: My concern is not so much with the radical Muslims as with the traditional Muslims. The radical Muslims we have to fight. There is no alternative. But we have to persuade traditional Muslims. Why? Because traditional Islam is the recruiting pool for radical Islam. It’s not good if we kill a hundred Islamic radicals and 200 traditional Muslims sign up the next day. So we have to address traditional Muslim concerns about America. The radicals are telling them that America is a fount of global atheism, that America fosters family breakdown, that American values corrupt the innocence of children. I think it is foolish to dismiss these concerns entirely, because there is a grain of truth to them. Not all of America is like this, but it is the America that has been promoted by the cultural left, and it is the America that most Muslims see through the images of our popular culture. I think America could improve its image among people in traditional cultures, including Muslim cultures, if we showed them “the other America”: the people who go to work every day and look after their families and abide by traditional values and go to church on Sunday. Many foreigners have no idea that this America even exists.

TH: Why shouldn’t Americans immediately dismiss Islamic criticism of our culture in your newly-defined “clash of civilizations” between liberal and conservative values?

DSOUZA: Right after 9/11 there was a tendency to come together as a national tribe and write off any criticism of America and focus on destroying the enemy. That was an understandable and healthy response. But the moment of national unity hardly lasted. Pretty soon the country was divided in exactly the same way it was before 9/11. In fact, Bush’s Iraq war became a rallying cry for the opposition. So to go around today talking about a “clash of civilizations” between America and Islam is pure foolishness. What common culture unites Bush and Michael Moore? I would suggest that, in terms of core values, Bush has more in common with Ali Gomaa, the grand mufti of Egypt, than he does with Michael Moore. Traditional Jews, Muslims and Christians differ theologically but morally they are very similar. So when the American left allies with the radical Muslims, the most sensible response is for American conservatives to find common ground with traditional Muslims.

TH: What is the best advice you can offer concerned conservatives who want to win the fight against both radical Islam and the cultural left? How can conservative citizens best combat these two enemies?

DSOUZA: People often come up to me after my lecture and say, “I am a student” or “I’m a citizen” and “What can I do to fight the war on terror?” My answer is: fight the left at home. It is the left, the enemy at home, that is fighting to weaken the resolve of the American people and thus undermine Bush’s chance to win the war on terror. I conclude my book “The Enemy at Home” with several specific suggestions for how conservatives can thwart the left both here in America and abroad.

When will they ever learn
Conservatives never seem to tire of blaming everyone but themselves for the problems that they create. This article is a perfect example of this.

The "cultural" left is responsible for us losing the war in Iraq? Not one shred of evidence is presented for this or the statement that:
"The war is being lost not on the streets of Baghdad but right here in America."

News flash conservatives: If we were winning on the streets of Baghdad, there would be no need for a "surge" in our troops, firing the Secretary of Defense, changing the military generals in charge on the ground in Iraq, and switching out the diplomatic staff in the country!!

This conservative whining about leftist boogey men under the bed is seen through now by everyone but the most die-hard dupes of Cheney and Bush. How else to explain the President's approval rating and the fact that even his republican senators and congressmen are backpeddling away from him like rats jumping from a sinking ship.

This blind and intellectually bankrupt thinking of Dsouza and his cronies will guarantee a democratic victory in 2008. Keep it up!!!

I have just written an article that I've entitled, "Lesson on Radicalism. . . A Walk Alongside of My Democratic Friend". The premise of the article point out that we may be doing more, internally, that fuels the hatred of radical ideology than we realize. A finger has been pointed at Republicans as the cause of this hatred, but, I spell out a different side of this debate. I state within this article that "Republicans have bled dearly over wounds brought about by carelessness of Democratic causes".

My article summary: We've closed our eyes when politics hides behind causes that contribute to, not only a moral decline, but, a national decline. Radicalism has no justification, but, we're not guiltless when we allow the promotion of what are now political stances that speak to our own decline and destruction.

Please don't forget that "The United States Institute of Peace is ... funded by Congress"

How Taxes Work!

The USIOP awarding an essay prize to the man who killed a 58 year old woman for being Jewish and ... five other women were wounded (one of them was pregnant).

The muslim terrorist "recently won an essay contest for a U.S. Institute of Peace scholarship."

The killer was paid by our tax money...

There were not any comments in this regards from the USIOP -- business as usual...

Rightviewpoint
That is rich. The USIOP awarding an essay prize to the man who killed a 58 year old woman for being Jewish. Guess what that essay must have been about? Peaceful solutions to the muslim/Jewish conflict, right? WRONG! It would be nice to bet a thousand dollars that the essay blamed everything on the Jews, and the USIOP is a left wing, anti-western values, knee jerk bunch of America haters.

Why Detroit?

Detroit – Arab Capital of North America

“Imagine! When I first came to Detroit, I thought that I was still in the Arab world ... I live in an almost Arab city. There are more Arab things to do in this town than in my country.”

Smiling, he pointed to the Arab retail establishments along Warren Avenue in Dearborn, the heart of Arab Detroit. “See! These are some of Detroit ’s Arab bookstores, grocery outlets, restaurants and sweet shops. We have Arabic language schools and Arabic entertainment, from nightclubs to radio and television programs, and even our political parties have branches in this city – and all this without fear of the daily Israeli attacks.”

... Coming from almost every corner of the Arab world, the Arab immigrants in Detroit have transformed areas throughout the city into replicas of the Arab countries from where they came.

It Really Works:

SEATTLE - The man accused in last week's shooting rampage at the Jewish Federation office that left one woman dead was charged Wednesday with nine felony counts, including violation of the state's hate-crime law.

Naveed Afzal Haq is charged with aggravated first-degree murder in the death of Pamela Waechter, 58, director of the Jewish charity's annual fundraising campaign. Five other women were wounded...

"Make no mistake, this was a hate crime," King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng told a news conference. "The attack on these women was an attack on the Jewish community, not only in Seattle but throughout our nation and the world."

The gunman broke into the charity's building on Friday. According to court documents, Haq talked to 911 operators from the office, identified himself by name and said: "This is a hostage situation and I want these Jews to get out."

He later added: "These are Jews and I'm tired of getting pushed around and our people getting pushed around by the situation in the Middle East."

Seattle Gunman Reportedly Won US Institute of Peace Essay Contest

Sunday, July 30, 2006. According to the Seattle Post-Intelligencer:
Those who knew Naveed Haq said Saturday that ... He held a degree in electrical engineering and was the son of a successful engineer... He was smart, creative and skilled as a writer. He recently won an essay contest for a U.S. Institute of Peace scholarship.

I wonder what the US Institute for Peace has to say about this report?
____

The United States Institute of Peace is an independent, nonpartisan, national institution established and funded by Congress.

Its goals are to help prevent and resolve violent international conflicts, promote post-conflict stability and democratic transformations, and increase peacebuilding capacity, tools, and intellectual capital worldwide.

The Institute does this by empowering others with knowledge, skills, and resources, as well as by its direct involvement in peacebuilding efforts around the globe.

Mike R. you said...
"... show the world our freedom by giving it up and never using it. I would hate to do something treasonous like exercise my constitutional rights."

Excuse my broad sweep. I was angry at something I had just read that was spoken by an extremely undignified and traitorous congresswoman. Of course one may exercise his constitutional rights. But those rights DO NOT include TREASON.

Freedom is our greatest asset and privilege and has been bought by fields of blood. I cannot express my gratitude enough for being born in the USA.

In any event, would you agree that there is a means to have public discourse with dignity and civility? ESPECIALLY when the rest of the world is watching? Where are the statesmen/women?

One can disagree with ones elected officials without being a TRAITOR - as in giving aid and comfort and ENCOURAGEMENT to the enemy.

Trying to persuade another with logic and reasoning has become a lost art. We now have chanting and mantras in place of rational arguments.

Unfortunately, the only seeming strategy from the left is to chant their wishes loud and often for those wishes to become the public "Truth."

Do you disagree? Show me 1, one, A SINGLE rational plan for dealing with the terrorists, from the left leaners. "Different" is not a plan, nor is "quit" in rational thought.

The History of Iraq:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8147818935080796713

This is the first part of a three part series. If you go to the link, the other parts should be there. In this part, the show some interesting things, but there is one main reason I am linking to it.

About a third of the way through, there is a history of Iraq starting when the British drew the boarders separating Iraq from Kuwait. It continues on through the multiple coups within Iraq and Iran, to our involvement with Iraq in the 1980’s under the Reagan/Bush administration, to Desert Storm, covers Iran/Contra, and all the way up to today.

It is very interesting and sad watching how our incoherent policy in the Middle East has brought us where we are today.

For anyone that believes the people of the Middle East “hate us for our freedoms,” you should watch this.

And please, watch it before you start calling me names for linking to it.

The video also interviews people of different faiths about war in general. And there is an interview with an American soldier who worked as an interrogator in Iraq. He is telling the story of a 22 year old Saudi Arabian who crossed over to join the Jihad.

to Ralph
Ralph, I certainly don't have the answers to all your questions. I do though find it curious that the Bin Ladin family and the Bush family are in business together. In fact Bush Sr. and a member of the Bin Ladin family were lunching together at the time of the attack. Perhaps you might want to check out the Carlyle Group.

I also find it distressing that our government repeatedly handed out erroneous and misleading information concerning this whole thing. For example, the sole video that was supposed to show Bin Ladin admitting to carrying out 9-11 was clearly NOT OBL, yet you saw it everywhere. Much, much later and with much less fanfare, they finally admitted it was not him. But do most people know that? I could go on and on, but suffice it to say, I firmly believe we have been lied to more than just a little.

Questions
My question is... what does he consider a "left wing stance on foreign policy" to be? Anyone that doesn't agree with overthrowing a sovereign nation that did nothing to us?

By the way, what do you call an administration that does not protect U.S. borders and allows our country to be overrun by illegal aliens?

History ignored
How does a 9-11 conspiricist ignore the history of Islamo-Nazi hatred for all we stand for, which goes back hundreds of years? Does that not count toward establishing a motivation for the terror they have spread not only here, but around the world? How do you ignore the previous attacks on those same twin towers, our embassies in Africa, Khobar Towers, etc. as a precursor to 9-11? I'm certainly not the sharpest tool in the shed, but the bread crumbs of terrorist acts militant Islamists have laid down mark the trail to 9-11 pretty clearly to me.
Let's say the govt. was behind the attacks on 9-11. How did they hook up with OBL and get him to mastermind the whole thing? His group been planning this since the first try failed under Clinton. Are they in kahoots with our government? If so, then why would they want to bring the U.S. military down on themselves and all they are trying to accomplish to establish a caliphate? Help me understand this twisted logic that would make these Islamists some sort of masochistic morons, which clearly they are not.

A final note....
ben, you are remarkably lucid, genuinely intellectually curious, and notably open-minded. thank you for being so.

i would like to add that i am a male former hard-core republican of the reaganite variety -- born and raised as well. i come from a very right-wing military/corporate family and toted the party line for most of my life.

my story is living proof that you are never too old to learn and never too old to change.

i know i can play hardball with the best of them but i try to use my ego and personality as a tool, rather than let it use me. for example, peppermint, despite your last, somewhat out of character, posting in which you said you hope they bomb iran into oblivion, you honestly seem like a nice person who has responded with remarkable patience and grace to my admittedly inflammatory comments.

even pitbull has done so in his recent posts.

i certainly don't hate anyone here and i strongly denounce hate period -- which i why i responded so vehemently to dsouza's hateful statements. the truth is that i would much rather be producing breakbeats, playing golf, reading a good book or doing ANYthing rather than sitting here composing such postings. nonetheless, in the midst of such blatant lies, corruption and treason, what is a passionate american to do?

additionally, i have read ben's posts for several weeks now as well and i wish to say that he stands out as someone who does not let ego get in the way of any pre-conceived notions he may have.

i'm sure that at the moment i am too 'out there' for most of you, though in time i suspect you may see me differently than you do today. but i have read ben's comments over the past several weeks and i would submit that he is a role model for any open-minded soul to aspire to. even with peppermint (and not like me at all), he responded with a kindness that is rarely seen in such a forum as this.

we are not democrats and we are not republicans.

we are human beings, we are americans, and we are world citizens.

every day, i pray that this crucial period of history is forever characterized by that notion.

peace out.

This is an impressive list of Americans
You Know, I was curious- so I went to this sit: http://www.wanttoknow.info/officialsquestion911commissionreport

There is no way anyone could confuse this list with either liberalism or anti Americanism.

Every single person on this list has dedicated their lives to service to their country.
All of them question the 9-11 commission, their findings, and the official statement of our government concerning what happened on September 11, 2001.

If I have to choose between the men and woman on this list and the Bush admin- well, I think this list speaks for itself.

Ben

Video: "A lot of these pieces of information, taken together, prove that the official story, the official conspiracy theory of 9/11 is a bunch of hogwash. It’s impossible. … There’s a second group of facts having to do with the cover up. Taken together these things prove that high levels of our government don’t want us to know what happened and who’s responsible. Who gained from 9/11? Who covered up crucial information? And who put out the patently false stories about 9/11 in the first place? I think the case is pretty clear that it’s highly placed individuals in the administration with all roads passing through Dick Cheney. I think the very kindest thing that we can say about George W. Bush and all the people in the U.S. Government that have been involved in this massive cover-up ... is that they were aware of impending attacks and let them happen. Peppermint and Pitbull
are you certain Solis is a guy?

pitbull
I think the "girlfriend" was his out. He finally gave it up. Too many rational people all gathered in one place. What a whack job he is!!

If he does have a girlfriend, she must be as whacked as he is, whatever the sex.

My dog's pi**ed at me for being on here too long. He just became my new shredding machine. Tore up some papers I had been writing.

Hey come visit my blog when you get the chance and find out the latest on the commies and our free speech/or threat to it.

pitbull
I told solis he needs help also, but he took it as an insult. The guy has obviously gone over the edge big time.
I hope you're right about the wire taps and I hope Bush bombs Iran into oblivion.

Solis
You obviously didnt read a single word on the nist website. I am not interested in your conjectures. I am interested in the facts.

i'm out
gotta go watch a movie with the girlfriend.

Pitbull...
as i have said, even when faced with an abundance of information
that proves you are in way over your head, you still cling to disparagement and insults to cover your ignorance.

and, as i have said, you subsequently have clearly demonstrated you do not possess the necessary acumen, deductive reasoning, and critical thinking skills necessary to ascertain an informed, factual, and judicious answer.

i would give up now if i were you. you are getting in way too deep for your own good.

Ralph
I'm in agreement with you. I also would like to know who these so-called moderate Muslims are. If they don't speak up, it's the same as condoning the actions of the fanatics. We're not going to turn these people over to "our side". They are mostly interested in us turning over to their side.

Pitbull... 9/11 was an inside job
this all has to do with how informed one is. if you rely on FOX news and CNN to provide you with "news," then you have much to learn.

the 9/11 truth movement has gained enormous credibility in the past few years and today counts among its members: scholars, engineers, academics, scientists, nobel prize winners, ex-bush administration officials, architects, ex-federal attorneys, ex-and current foreign and domestic politicians, internationally renowned authors, a growing cadre of intelligence officers from all over the world, fortune 500 company executives, u.s. presidential candidates, ralph nader, professors, actors, firefighters, demolition experts, CEO's, emmy award winners -- even ed asner, of all people, is onboard this movement. what have they seen that makes them believe this?

if you'd like a comprehensive list of prominent americans who believe 9/11 "was allowed to happen to further militaristic and constitutional goals," type into google "100 prominent americans" and read what you find. among the prominent members of this group is none other than catherine austin fitts – the first bush administration's assistant secretary of housing – who co-founded the seminal website

http://www.unansweredquestions.org

which has become a luminary among the increasingly credible independent media websites that have filled the void of truth, news and information since mainstream media's early and total blackout on any of the questions or discrepancies surrounding 9/11.

wonderfully, others have spoken out as well. in fact, as my faith in madison would have it, on may 6th, morgan reyonolds -- a former Chief Economist at the U.S. Department of Labor 2001-2002 in the second bush administration -- spoke in madison, wisconsin at the wisconsin state historical society about the bush adminstration's "inside involvement in 9/11."

yes. you read that right. not "they missed the intelligence." not, they "ignored the intelligence," but that "9/11 was an inside job." i apologize if that is disturbing, but i can sugar-coat nothing. the facts are out in the open and they will not go away.

complete media blackout on his speech:

http://www.madison.com/tct/opinion/column/index.php?ntid=83698

Dr. Morgan Reynolds' personal website: http://nomoregames.net/

are you surprised you haven't seen any of this on the news? don't be. again, due to the complete media blackout on the 9/11 truth movement since the beginning, there is still a tremendous way to go. nonetheless, a worldwide critical mass is indeed forming and its size and strength has even surprised me. the mainstream media and politicians will join on, but only after this critical mass has reached a sufficient level. today, I am amazed at where we stand today and I have great hopes for the future.

still, we have a long way to go. for example, despite Morgan Reynolds – another former bush administration official – having spoken at the wisconsin state historical society in madison, may 6, indicting the current bush administration on charges of high treason for complicity in the 9/11 terror attacks, has anyone been told by madison's "very liberal media" that any of this happened?

of course not.

again, this is because of the total media blackout that has surrounded this issue since the very beginning. this is why the 9/11 Truth Movement has also realized that one of the major battles lies in exposing the "liberal media" lie for what it really is -- nothing less than propaganda assisting to divide us against our brothers and cousins through useless battles that mean nothing to little, if any of us – gay marriage, immigration, flag-burning, euthanasia – whatever it takes, while steadily guiding us toward unending war and a diminishing middle-class.

poeple like dinesh dsouza are a classic example of those who clearly wish to perpetrate these lies and diversions. in time, perhaps the deeper motives of people like him will be revealed.

loose change, the film i refer to is the perfect antidote to these lies and it recently became the number one most-watched video on google video.

essentially, the film is a scathing indictment of the government's complicity in 9/11. since the film debuted, it has grown in enormous stature and size and MP Michael Meacher planned to show it in the house of parliament in london on june 14th for over a month. of course, as often happens, he "changed his mind," shortly before the set date. probably a pretty smart guy, i'm thinking.

then, of course, there ARE the numerous whistle-blowers, including Sergeant Lauro "LJ" Chavez, Abledanger, former FBI translators, Behrooz Sarshar and Sibel Edmonds, and counltess others. several of these have been given gag orders by ashcroft and gonzales, who have stated that they are simply not allowed to tell their proven stories of conspiracy because they "violate state secrets."

you bet they do.

pitbull. you need to understand that there is a world of factual information that exists
outisde of the so-called "news" that the new york times, washington post, chicago tribune, CNN, FOX news, etc. try to shove down our throats.

to this day, CNN.com has spent the week telling us all about lindsay lohan with nary a word about the iraq resolution.

wake up, pitbull.

you are being lied to.

by the way, i produce electronic music too:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6739227220487922409

D'souza forgot to mention
The very Muslims D'souza thinks we need to be courting are already here in the U.S. preaching hatred in their mosques. To think we will change their view of us is ludricrous. D'souza's piece leads one to believe the "moderate" muslims can be won to our side. Sorry, as much as I'd like to believe that, their actions or lack of, tell me there is no way to make that happen.

pitbull
I read today that Bush is going to give up the warrantless wire taps to appease the dems.

Good answer to solis. I've read and seen all the results on this so called conspiracy. It's so far out I don't have any interest in the subject. I guess some people don't want to believe we simply were attacked by Muslims.

my mistake: i meant to write that "between 39% and 91% of the u.s. falls into the LIHOP camp."

...not the MIHOP camp.

Solis
If you are truly looking for the facts of 9-11 and not trying to use bogus info to substantiate your beliefs then you need to check out the research the editors of Popular Mechanics did on the subject. Their agenda was pretty susinct. It was to take the top 16 assertions of the conspiracy theorists, assemeble recognized experts in the fields needed to prove or disprove the assertions, then let the chips fall where they may. When it was all said and done all 16 assertions were debunked. There was no "evidence" linking the events to an inside job. Most logical people would conclude if 9-11 was an inside job that 70 experts in their field should be able to find something pointing to that scenario. Sorry, no cigar. There really were muslim terrorists who wanted to kill as many infidels on 9-11 by flying several aircraft into buildings and we will probably be fighting them for many years to come, while conspiracy theorists are pointing the accusing finger at the very people who are trying to protect us from them. Scary!

Ben...
i genuinely appreciate your intelligent, objective and informed response.

my agenda here is not to demonize; it is to spread truth and information.

and, as you state, numerous flase-flag precedents abound in which the u.s. government clearly attempted and/or succeeded in staging a catastrophe to foment escalation and/or military engagement.

what you are specifically referring to is 'operation northwoods,' created in june of 1963 by chief of staff lymon lemnitzer, in which the entire u.s. joint chiefs of staff signed off on a plan to stage terror attacks in miami and washington d.c. (among other things) to instigate war with cuba.

the plan was rejected by secretary of defense robert mcnamara and JFK personally removed lemnitzer form his post.
of course, we all know what happened to JFK six months later.

type it into google and see what comes up. it's a fascinatingly informative account of what too many people are simply unaware of.

then, of course, there is the notorious gulf of tonkin incident in which a fals-flag attack on a u.s. ship occured to escalate war in vietnam. this is what republican congressman (and 2008 presidential candidate) ron paul described as something we might be conerned about happening in the next few weeks in regard to iran.

in the 9/11 truth movement, there are two primary camps -- LIHOP (let it happen on purpose) and MIHOP (made it happen on purpose). according to numerous polls, between 39% and 91% of the u.s. falls into the MIHOP camp.

thank you for responding with reason and intellectual objectivity.

solis
I'm not interested in that particular conspiracy theory of yours. Let me make it plain to you. It's a waste of my time to read it. I've seen and heard enough to know that. It's been debunked by many, many intelligent people. I am not interested in arguing your points. Now just go away and stop pestering me with it. Or pester someone else about it.

======

this has been substantiated.

=================

This has been substantiated.

And if you read that website, there are a number of articles advocating attacking Iraq. They even have a letter sent to Clinton in 1997 pressuring him to invade Iraq. This was signed by Rumsfeld.

I do believe they used the attacks to push their agenda against Iraq. I do believe that is why all the twisted and cherry picked intelligence was used. And, that is why the rational for invasion changed so many times prior to the war starting.

But, I think they used that attacks, but didn’t orchestrate them.

However, saying that, it is also well documented that the Joint Chiefs of Staff during the Kennedy Administration, or near that time, contemplated orchestrating an small scale attack on America to gain support for invasion of Cuba.

solis
The truth and rational thinking are not for you because:

"you all have clearly demonstrated you do not possess the necessary acumen, deductive reasoning, and critical thinking skills necessary to ascertain an informed, factual, and judicious answer."

solis,
I feel very bad for you that you lost loved ones in the WTC disaster. You sound like you have not done the appropriate grieving necessary in order that you do not decline and disintegrate any further into madness. Please get some help.

Gunny G, Pitbull, Eagleone, Peppermint--
so typical...

gunnyg and pitbull: of course, both of you have NO response whatsoever -- other than to spew your tired 'moonbat' and 'tin-foil hat' jokes -- which really aren't even funny. if they actually were, i might give you some credit, but since they're not (and they're quite cliched as well), you come off as sounding rather stupid and ignorant.

peppermint: you write, "Let's put it this way for you guys. You can't have it both ways. Either Bush is the biggest moron on earth or he's the biggest, brightest mastermind ever born to pull off the conspiracy you wish to perpetrate."

that statement alone reveals your abysmal lack of critical thinking skills. bush got away with nothing -- DON'T YOU GET IT??? there are so many holes to the 9/11 story, it is laughable. the only reason the lie is sustainmed is due to people liek you who believe whatever they are told. by the way, did you even find those WMD's?? or does that matter because saddam hussein was behind 9/11??

eagle one: you wrote, "All of the so-called fact websites are really just ill-informed conjecture that have more basis in wishing something were true soley for political reasons....much like the left's behavior for the past 6 years."

oh really? is that so?

then, please, would you be so kind as to address the following:

for example, how do YOU explain the put options (bets that a stock will fall) that were FOUR, FIVE and ELEVEN times the unsual amount on boeing, united, and american airlines in the IMMEDIATE DAYS prior to 9/11? to this day, the american people have been provided with NO answer to this, yet this is a crucial aspect CLEARLY related to terrorist funding and inside profiting of 9/11.

and what about the thermate found in the trade center rubble (used primarily for controlled demolitions)? no explanation there whatsoever, either.

or how about that the steel used in those buildings was certified for four hours, maintaining COMPLETE INTEGRITY at 2,000F, while jet fuel burns at approximately 1150F?

why did all three buildings collapse when NO skyscraper in HISTORY has EVER collapsed due to a fire, while the first two towers were SPECIFICALLY designed to withstand the impact of a 707 (same size as a 757)

...and WTC7 was not even hit by an airplane??

how does a passport -- made of PAPER -- miraculously fly out of a pilot's pocket, when supposedly all four "black boxes" were destroyed??

why did rumsfeld, mueller, a CIA official, and a "hero firefighter" all give OPPOSING accounts of what happened to the black boxes? (hint: the "hero firefighter says they found three of them while the rest say quite differently.)

how were these planes even flown in such remarkably accurate ways (as well as physically impossible -- such as making a 333-degree turn at 550 mph) -- ESPECIALLY when the supposed pilots FAILED flight school for their inability to even operate a cessna?

how on earth does a 757 DISAPPEAR from the radar and then fly across THREE STATES to strike the most heavily fortifed and defended building on the planet?

why were NO jets sent to intercept these planes -- as per FAA protocol -- and as occurred at least one hundred times in the preceding year?

why was FAA protocol illegally circumvented -- BY CHENEY -- with NO explanation to this day?

finally, it's time to enlighten yourselves.

in 2000, cheney, rumsfeld, rice, perle and a host of other neo-cons wrote, for their neo-con thinktank "project for a new american century," a document entitled "rebuilding america's defenses..."

in it, they delineated their plan to attack IRAQ, then IRAN and SYRIA, eventually cutting a swath eastward through central asia, ultimately setting up bases directly outside of n. korea and china.

-- when questioning how to get the american people behind such a plan, they posited it would take a "a catastrophic and catalyzing event -- LIKE A NEW PEARL HARBOR" to do so. one year later, 9/11 occurred, under their watch, with CLEARLY documented proof that all indications of such an attack were BLATANTLY IGNORED.

of course, there HUNDREDS more questions i could put to you that have been ignored, covered-up, and given NO explanation to, but perhaps these are a good place for anyone to begin questioning.

you want to know more?

http://www.loosechange911.com/

watch the film

gunny g, pitbull, and peppermint this information is obviously not for you because -- quite frankly -- you all have clearly demonstrated you do not possess the necessary acumen, deductive reasoning, and critical thinking skills necessary to ascertain an informed, factual, and judicious answer.

but for the rest of you -- and i KNOW there are many more of you who silently consider these words without retreating into fearful reactionary name-calling when someone threatens your precious faux-reality -- i urge you to find the truth for yourselves.

i was once like you. my best friend died in WTC1 and my girlfriend's father had to avoid falling bodies on his way out. luckily, he survived.

i cried, i was enraged at bin laden (who had NOTHING to do with it) and i put an american flag in the planter outside my front door and i vowed to destroy al-qaeda. i was fooled. but today, i am part of growing number of people all over the world -- and certainly in the united states -- who REFUSE to be lied to any longer.

it is time to wake up and take our country back from those who have stolen it. watch 'loose change.'

pitbull
I like your Aussie moonbat theory. I thought they were extinct also.
Hey, what would I know, I'm not capable of critical thinking and shouldn't be posting on this intellectual site. LOL

I am just laughing
myself sick reading solis comment on me. Guess what solis, you can call me everything in the book and it won't make any difference. You're not hurting my feelings and you are not persuading me to go to your silly link.

I've seen enough of you pointy hats on TV and all of the balloons you guys throw into the air have been punctured with facts.

Let's put it this way for you guys. You can't have it both ways. Either Bush is the biggest moron on earth or he's the biggest, brightest mastermind ever born to pull of the conspiracy you wish to perpetrate. You do see the contradiction for you guys? You'll have to choose which Bush you want to embrace.

Judeo-Christian nation?
DavidM posted, responding to my previous post:
"it IS a Judao Christian nation
It is simply a secular *government*.
Most polling shows upwards of 90 percent of Americans consider themselves Jewish or Christian.
[I, WRH Bill, had posted]"I am not religious and don't want to be declared a second-class citizen in American society because I'm not."
Perhaps its Christians who wish to stifle the life-sprang-from-nothing 'scientists'?
Is it Christians who are banning secular books from schools or is it the other way around?
Is it Christians who wet their pants every time a nativity scene is within 100 feet of government property?

No, its the other way around."

I'd call it a nation with a lot of Judeo-Christians in it (and I think your 90 percent figure may be a little high) rather than a "Judeo-Christian nation", but I agree that it is a secular government, and I'd like to keep it that way. Even if the 90 percent figure is true, does that-- or should that-- make the 10 percent second-class citizens?

Regarding your sarcastic comment about creationists (not) trying to "stifle" the evolutionist or "life-sprang-from-nothing" view, if you recall, that was what *was* attempted in the famous Scopes trial-- a high school teacher was threatened with criminal punishment for teaching evolution, and in fact, he *lost* that case. Right now the creationists are concentrating on seeking "equal time" in public schools, but I have little doubt that at least some of them would be delighted to again outlaw the teaching of evolution, in any school, if they had the political power to do so. For my part, I support private schools, even to the point of some sort of voucher or tax-substitution system for their support, and I acknowledge the right of private schools to teach so-called "creation science", even though I think they are doing their students a disservice. However, as far as public schools are concerned, I do believe that they violate the establishment clause of the Constitution if and when they try to smuggle religious beliefs into the classroom under the guise of "science", and I also believe the creationists are engaging in scientific fraud when they try to claim that their beliefs meet the requirements and tests of real science or that it is an open question among the majority of real scientists whether evolution occurred. (Oh, and as far as you sneering at the belief that "life sprang from nothing", that cuts little ice with me unless you can explain just where God "sprang from". I don't find it any more nonsensical to suppose that life sprang from nothing, or more precisely non-living matter, than it is to suppose that God always existed without being created by anyone or anything.)

As far as nativity scenes are concerned, I have no objection to having them on public property in season as long as they are paid for by private funds and as long as adherents of other beliefs have an equivalent chance to display their symbols. I acknowledge that on occasion, overzealous and bigoted crusaders for atheism have interfered with the legitimate freedoms of religious people. But that doesn't happen as often as the Christians seeking victimhood would like to claim. More important, there is no law of nature saying bigotry and oppression related to religious and non-religious belief can only run in one direction. If atheists sometimes oppress Christians, that hardly means that Christians never oppress atheists-- or that more Christians would not do so if they had the political power to do so.

GunnyG
Would you try to enlighten me as to why some foreigner from a country that has just passed laws that result in crime increasing to the point law enforcement is FLOUNDERING and can't even file reports on most of it thinks he has something to offer America?
They know what caused all the crime and are too stubborn to admit a mistake and put it right!

Correcting National Problems is sort of like playing Black Jack. I kind of wish they would fix their own country instead of trying to tell us how to fix ours.

You are right about the world not understanding about our system and freedom. If only we could get that clue you proffer and show the world our freedom by giving it up and never using it. I would hate to do something treasonous like exercise my constitutional rights.

You’re being much too hard on Rush and O’Rielly. (just joking) Seriously though, it’s odd that the rest of the world can’t suck up this “filth” fast enough. Something must be up here. I have an idea. Why don’t you write about how great the rest of the world is compared to us (whether you believe it or not) and watch our opinion of the rest of the world come flooding in. Of course, then you’d have to contrive a way to say that our opinion is based on fact while theirs is based on the liberals/Hollywood, sorry, filthy minority that must be purged.

Talk is NOT cheap...
People around the world do not understand our system, our freedom or our national identity.

I am Proud to be an American by birth, Southern by the Grace of God.

9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB
ben, i sincerely appreciate your intelligent response.

perhaps you are right to say that it is wrong to call someone unamerican for not determining facts before making such a monumental decision. after all, if our president can act as such, why shouldn't we?

second, that is NOT all i have. what i have is a film -- a 100% fact-based documentary that lists its sources as it goes (most of which are FOX, CNN, and the like) -- the delineates exactly WHY and HOW 9/11 was an inside job.

doesn't anyone have the courage, the fortitude and yes -- i'll say it -- the PATRIOTISM -- to watch it and see for themselves?

i'm in australia and i'm going to bed now. you heard the truth and it is up to you what you decide to do with it.

it is now up to your conscience to decide.

if you are going to entertain a hateful evil man who demonizes your own countrymen and women, then you are obligated to determine the truth for yourself.

do NOT be afraid. have COURAGE. watch the FACTS -- THEN decide.

9/11 was an inside job.

After living abroud, I've learned ...
The worldwide opinion of America is shaped by Hollywood and other media outlets available in the world.

To my despair, the impression the world has of the US is that we are:

Immoral
reckless
Godless
Whiney
Spoiled
Unappreciative
Use foul language (all of us)
Accepting/Promoting of homosexuality
Accepting/Promoting of beastiality
Accepting/Promoting of pedophilia
Hate our president (i.e. would kill him given the chance)
Want perversion to be our norm

The pollution of our airwaves by the loudmouthed, obscene, perverts, and fools is in part causing us to be attacked by the radicals. To their minds the majority of us are filth, and filth must be purged.

Thank you ever so much media outlets for your filth peddling.

Peppermint- Let me have this one.

I am not sure if you read much of what I say on here- but any one that does, knows that I have no kind words for the war in Iraq, how it was waged, and the dire consequences of the war and the destabilizing effect on the Middle East.

But, to declare that 9-11 was an inside job is a ludicrous statement. And, I have looked at some the conspiracy theories purporting it.

At the very most, and I am not saying I believe this, but with the evidence given, the most one could assume is that we may have known about it and failed to act- for what ever reason.

your willful ignorance is nothing short of appalling.

if a TRUE american PATRIOT were told that the greatest tragedy committed on american soil was an INSIDE JOB and that there is a 100% fact-based film that proves as much, any red-blooded TRUE american PATRIOT would certainly be incensed enough to say to themselves, "well, if this were true, then i must -- for the sake of truth -- at least check out this film BEFORE i blindly respond to this assertion."

but not you.

instead, you hide behind your ignorance -- proud of it even -- with your only intellectual argument being "boy! you sure are crazy!"

peppermint, this forum is for intelligent truth-seekers. don't insult me, and even more important, don't insult yourself.

clearly, you are afraid. if you TRULY had the GUTS to face this shocking truth, you would -- like any genuine TRUTH-SEEKER and PATRIOT -- absorb the argument before making a reactionary, pitiful, ego-based self-preserving stance.

again, IF YOU ARE SO SURE YOU ARE RIGHT AND I AM WRONG, THEN WHY ARE YOU SO AFRAID TO WATCH THIS 100% FACT-BASED FILM????

because you are a COWARD, that is why.

again, i challenge you: watch the film and come back at me with ANY argument to ANY of the FACTS presented in this film. surely, that's a reasonable request, right? challenge me on any of the FACTS? that's pretty reasonable, right?

not for you.

peppermint, your weak, frightened inability to face the reality that 9/11 WAS AN INSIDE JOB when i present you with 100% FACT-BASED FILM by simply saying "you are crazy" and leaving it at that basically negates anything you could possibly have to argue from this point forward because it clearly shws you possess ZERO critical thinking skills.

you are weak.

you should be ashamed of yourself.

you are the antithesis of what america stands for.

We did use all the ideas in our education of our son, but abortion was off the table.
============================

And it worked. It had worked for us as well- two daughters, 18 and 19- no pregnancies.

All I am saying is that we should not expect it always to work- especially in light of what Dunkel stated.

But, if more parents did- then yes, the number of abortions would start to decline, and one day maybe to the point where it is only for the list of reasons someone stated above.

Mothers life, rape, incest, etc.

You are right. I see hatred come from the extreme right also. At the time I was addressing a liberal comment. But, I do see the same kind of projection come from the other side believe it or not.

Yes, it saddens me that some parents won't take responsibility for the sex education in their homes and be open and honest with their kids.

And, it is so easy to do, talk to your kids about this subject. I just don't get it with some folks.
I guess like you said these parents are not responsible either so how could their kids be. It's a very sad state of affairs.

Truly responsible parenting would go a long way in curing some of society's ills. But that would require responsibility and accountability from way too many folks who can not be bothered with such personal characteristics, as it takes away from their cherished lifestyle. I applaud your efforts in your son's upbringing. My wife works in child welfare and I have seen way too many examples on the negative side. And I am off topic again...sorry.

Actually, no you are not. And, you could provide some good information from you wife- about the general condition of the system she works in.

Okay, this time for real- I have to get some work done.

First, I applaud you.

Second, it is unfortunate yet true, that most parents won’t / cant do that. Even if they did, we would still have the problems of the kids that don’t listen.

That is why I think we should blend the attempts. Use them all- we will have a much better chance of success.

Okay, now I need to get back to work...lol..

RxLady does make a point but only to a small extent. Each side employs the same rhetoric, has the same types of characters in the media and politics and each side thinks they are right and the other is wrong while basing it solely on opinion.

Peppermint adds to this folly by equating a certain behavior with the left when you can see examples of the right displaying it in this thread.

Of course when it comes to opinion we sometimes run into grey areas; but as to your challenge:

My selfish desires are based on the well being of my family, not fun.
I believe that all actions carry their own consequences, most of which are inescapable.
I’m not gung-ho about gay rights, but I’m not opposed to them because I find that all rights come with responsibilities. It is ridiculous to expect responsibility from individuals who feel devoid of their rights. Without that, there is no basis for responsibly behavior.
I never rant or rave and I only act like a cry-baby when I’m sick; and then, only to my wife.
Liberalism will not fall flat on its face every time, but certain parts of it will.
Your post hasn’t even made me tingly let alone angry so your point has been proven wrong. (Of course, it probably would have been better to base your point on something a little more certain or scientific)

You forgot to mention the OTHER William Jefferson... the Frozen Money one.

Takes 100K AND gets a free ride from the NG to evacuate some of his personal belongings.

Then Red Nancy circles the wagons for him.

Not bad.
========================

That is false.

The democratic leadership removed him from his seat on the Ways and Means committee. They stripped him from power. And, he has not been officially indicted yet.

Unfortunately, the voters put him back in office. Being from Louisiana, but not from N.O., it is easy for us to see that the reason for this is because his opponent was not a viable choice either. For better or worse, New Orleans sent him back to office.

Personally, I believe gerrymandering has a lot to do with this too..

And Gunny, I ask you again.

What did the republicans do when Tom Delay was under investigation? They changed the ethic rules so he would not have to step down. They covered up the Foley case and the Cunningham case.

Corruption is, unfortunately, a part of politics. But what the leadership does about it matters and is telling. It is the difference between a corrupt politician or systemic corruption within the party.

I'll repeat my "reactionary, naive, and ignorant" comment. You are crazy.

ben
I agree with you. Unbelievable eh?

Well, I'll tell ya a personal story. When my son was growing up my husband and I kept the "talking door" open for sexual education/responsibility.

We stressed abstinence and discussed with him the need for responsibility. We talked about the pros and cons of attempting a sex life during one's teens.

We also talked to him about using protection if he indeed thought he could not abide by abstinence, knowing that teenagers are indeed apt to be curious and want to try things out.

Each time he was feeling temptation he would come to us and tell us he wanted to talk about it.
So, we would sit down and listen to him and then we would go over the subject matter again.
At the end of each one of these talks, he would thank us telling us he wanted us to give him those cons on early sex so he would be reminded of the negative aspects of breaking abstinence.

Well, he remained abstinent during his entire teen years.
I personally believe that parents can do a good job of helping their teens through this period of their lives if the door is kept open.

How about Sandy Berger stealing government "CLASSIFIED" documents from a Federal Government facility. Did he not break the public trust as a former high official within the government? “Because they want no accountability, responsibility, or consequences for their sexual behavior.” This is a wholly false statement- except for maybe a few on the fringe."

OK. So what reasons are there for abortion other than rape, incest, and saving a mother's life?

If one is responsible and accountable one does not have unprotected sex, thus eliminating the need for abortion.

So, what is your answer to that?
=========================

My answer to this is a battling of ways to address unwanted pregnancies. You can go back to the Carter Administration to see that he was:
1) addressing education of birth control and funding.
2) Addressing adoption as an alternative- the cost of which prevents a lot of middle class families from doing so.

Clinton tried to revive some of these issues.

But, the Republicans only believe in abstinence. They cut all government funding to education or funding of birth control.

I actually think abstinence teaching for younger kids (kids are getting pregnant at 10 and 11 these days) would work to reduce this. But, at some point, you have to acknowledge that teenagers are human, they don’t always listen to us, but we may be able to teach them preventative measures.

The religious right is against this.

Bottom line, it is a huge issue that needs a comprehensive strategy that will lead us to a point of, “legal but rare.”

P.S. I am not blaming all republican for the problem- merely saying we have to get on the same page to solve the problem. I do know there are far lefties that dismiss abstinence teaching without really trying to understand it, just as far rightist dismiss the preventative measures without trying to understand the necessity.

Dear phylo, kimberly, wolfy, apollo, etc
So, Medved, Prager, Limbaugh, etc. are inspiring hatred?

Liberalism is pure folly. Liberalism can't stand when their deeds, thoughts, and motives are brought to light.

The light of truth will always squash the darkness of folly.

The reason why people like Limbaugh and Prager evoke such visceral anger from the left is this: the left wants to continue to engage in its own selfish desires. Liberals don't want their "fun" to be taken away.

Why do you think the left is adamant on protecting abortion on demand? Because they want no accountability, responsibility, or consequences for their sexual behavior.

Why do you think the left is so "gung-ho" on gay "rights"? The same reason as above - freedom to "do it" with whomever, whenever, and however they please.

So, when those motives are exposed, liberals rant and rave like crybabies that have just their toys taken away.

I challenge you to prove this to be wrong.

Liberalism will fall flat on its face, every time.

If you become viscerally angry after reading my post, then the point has been proven.
=================================

I don’t think you made a point- and that tends to be the point out of all of this.

You make this challenge: “I challenge you to prove this to be wrong.” I would actually like you to prove it be true.

I feel no reason to take your definition of what liberal is and defend it. Nor does your definition apply to me or the vast amount of liberals in our society. Any one can take the most fringe element of society, and apply that to the whole, but that does not make it true.

If I call you a fascist, does that make you a fascist? One could argue that the extreme elements of the far right have fascist tendencies, but that does not apply to the great majority of those that consider themselves to be conservative or republicans.

As far as this statement you make: “Why do you think the left is so "gung-ho" on gay "rights"? The same reason as above - freedom to "do it" with whomever, whenever, and however they please.”

I defend the individual rights of gays, but I do not defend them for the reasons you state. I defend them because of the Constitution—as I have done many times on TH threads. Because you disagree with me does not make you a fascist, but I do question your knowledge of the Constitution- and the system of government it represents.

Abortion is a topic that needs more discussion than a sound bite can offer or a paragraph can state. I can disagree with a law banning abortion for logical reasons that have nothing to do with your accusations of, “Because they want no accountability, responsibility, or consequences for their sexual behavior.” This is a wholly false statement- except for maybe a few on the fringe.

Most of us see abortion as an important societal issue that needs to be address with more thought than a yes or no opinion to a law banning it.

First, I see the problem as unwanted pregnancies- abortions are a symptom of that problem. Banning abortion will not cure the problem- only change how individuals deal with it. And, the new method may be less moral than the last.

Second, we have outlawed drugs, murder, crime, etc and none of it has been eradicated yet. What makes you think it will work for abortion.

Look at the social services dealing with the children that are wards of the state- for which ever reason they are there. The system is fractured and broken, under-funded, and these kids are basically forgotten. What will happen when abortions are banned- have we even discussed the infrastructure of how to deal with the kids being placed into this system? Are we expecting that none will? I would not count on that being the case.

You can make this issue a yes/no argument and all those in disagreement are evil- if you wish. But that will not solve the problem.

Howdy Peppermint!
Great point!

Reminds me of the elite "intellectuals" in our institutions of "higher learning".

One would think that in the academic environment, that intellectual honesty would be of paramount inportance. But no! Even these otherwise highly intelligent people have been sucked into liberal foolishness, so that they can continue in their own selfish deeds and wants.

Knowing oneself can be uncomfortable, that's for sure. As for me, I would rather face that uneasiness to be all that God wants me to be.

Some people would rather take the moral "easy road" - but ultimately, that leads to destruction.

TTFN! (ta ta for now!)

Good, bad, I'm the guy with the gun
Obama is becoming “incredibly popular” because of slick marketing and his team’s sharp moves for the right slogans. He’s as hollow and fake as any other politician but sure, I’ll give you this much, the US voters often seem to fall for “looks great, less filling” and the media gush excuse to look away from serious issues. Obama represents America first about as much as any political actor has in the past in his self serving or faction manipulation of the political party, left, right shell game sham. Oh look, it’s the new JFK! Let’s all ignore the real power players behind the curtain and go fawn all over the new marketing package. Oh please, he’s only a distraction for the herd.
Yes, thirty years of being politically involved, in both parties and a stint working in the lobby system, has led me to loosing faith and becoming jaded about the whole US government thing. I don’t trust a single one of them anymore.

By the way, I don’t think it’s specifically the “other party” or the “left” that’s the enemy. It’s the hardcore thieves and tyrants everywhere in society who use any trick in the book to gain some measure of control over others. Middle Eastern tyrant wannabies on the terror jihad are but a tiny part of the same issue of someone thinking he has a right to someone else’s hard earned treasure. Obama and other politicians want to trick us out of it while Osama and friends simply kill us for it.

Really, the only answers are accountability and integrity but, seeing that both are outdated concepts to be ridiculed while simultaneously leveraged with false marketing, I see a very bleak future. If Obama was real, struck water from a stone then walked on it, I’m sure people would believe in him sometime shortly after DC pulled him down from his cross on the hill. Heck, look at Hillary. She’s already practicing swipes at his nose.
This government is laughable.

Statesmen
It is not possible to defeat liberals in a country that is filled with politicians that routinely use double speak. Trust in government is very low.

If the Constitution is not enough to unite us as a people then what is the focal point for unity? A politician or a straight talking statesman?

A statesman would have to have a profound love for our country and for the God that blessed this country with so much abundance. Such a statesman might find that even today's conservatives are left of center in many ways. Is there anyway that a statesman could rally enough other statesmen to reestablish the Republic of the United States of America?

I am not a betting man but I fear that the odds are not in favor of this happening.

Wiseone
You’re right about train engineering. Few people know or understand how trains work.

Lydia
Is 14 too young? What if she is my late wife’s half-sister? Does that make it ok?

Freight trains and Diesels
Donaldd

Trains of all kinds use Diesel-electric engines for one reason - power train, as in transmission.

The clutch that would be needed to effectively transfer power from an internal cumbustion engine (such as a diesel) directly to a drive shaft and drive axle of a freight train would have to be so large it would outweigh the locomotive itself.

So instead, railroad engineers began with steam, which works on pressure, which was released through a chamber with vanes (which operate like propellers in reverse). This assembly is commonly known today as a turbine. The vanes turned the drive shaft and the drive shaft turned the wheels.

After internal combustion engine and electrical technology advanced to where it was practical, the boiler and turbine of the old steam engines were replace with diesels to turn electric dynamos, which create electro-magnetic force. This electro-magnetic force is then used to transfer power to the drive shaft and wheels.

So, contrary to your implication, the use of Diesel-electrics is not as efficient as direct drive. It is less efficient. But it is used because that efficiency must be sacrificed to make the drive train work.

Your statement that such an engine should also qualify as a "hybrid' as used to identify cars like the Toyota Prius is also incorrect from an engineering standpoint. "Hybrid" today means capable of using multiple fuels or, as you seem to misunderstand with trains, have multiple engines or drive trains. A freight train has only one source of fuel - diesel. It also has only one engine, a diesel engine. The electric dynamo serves as nothing more than a substitute for a transmission and is part of the same single drive train of the locomotive.

Such is not the case with automobile, which can be driven quite effectively with clutches, whether they are automatically or manual operated.

The power transfer problem is also why many large ships continue to use steam to this day.

I have read a number of your posts on Townhall and am aware that when it comes to technical and practical matters you are generally uninformed (outside of DNC talking points). I hope my little lecture has helped. You should be appreciative of it. I have just told you things surprisingly few people outside the engineering community know, and which would cost you a ton of money to learn at a good engineering school.

Creating a democracy in Iraq would require eliminating those forces in the region that will do anything to prevent a democracy in Iraq- Iran and Saudi Arabia. Bush's strategy was not ruthless enough to eliminate the anti-democratic forces in Iraq. It would have only worked if he had destroyed the sunni triangle as well as the mahdi army. But as it is the Saudis are funding the Sunni's and they own our state department and much of this administration-which is why George Bush will have marines executed for being too effective against the sunnis-I guess no one filled them in on the fact that they were in fact mercenaries for the Saudis a la George Bush. Saddam was more of a threat to Saudi Arabia than he was to the US. Now our boys will stay in Iraq untill Iran is neutralized, otherwise Iran will wipe right through Iraq and take Saudi. But then again, the Saudi's own our government, we have the best government money can buy and the Saudis bought it. The shame is that we don't have any men in the Us military that will arrest the for
