"Riffed from the Headlines" is Townhall's daily VIP feature with coverage on the deeply flawed aspects of journalism in the nation. We'll look to bring accountability to the mishaps, malaprops, misdeeds, manipulations, malpractice, and manufactured narratives in mainstream media.

Blue-Anon – CNN

It has long been the case that the main people listening to any conspiracies and Q-anon messages are those in the press. If you want updates from these supposedly nefarious sources, you can count on CNN and MSNBC to detail all the theories – which these same outlets declare to be dangerous and not fit for the public to hear.

In similar fashion, now we have seen Mike Lindell, the pillow magnate and onetime Fox News fixture, become a side note. He has spent much of 2021 spouting crackpot theories and making numerous claims that Donald Trump would be re-installed as president, all of which failed and have rendered him as someone no longer worth listening to – unless you are Chris Cillizza.

Chris is here to detail for us that Lindell's latest crusade is that voting in Alabama was corrupted.

- "Why, you might ask yourself, would election meddlers conduct an operation designed, according to Lindell, to flip votes from Trump to Biden in a state that was on no one's competitive radar and where the incumbent president absolutely swamped the Democratic challenger? None of it -- and I mean NONE of it -- makes any sense."

And yet here is Chris reporting on it and giving the story oxygen. You do not see this reported on Fox News, nor most any other outlet. But Chris is on the case.

Presentation Paradox – MSNBC

  • Joe Scarborough hates masks but wears a mask – does he hate the vaccine as well?

It has become a tiresome component of the media that they love to lecture us on proper pandemic comportment, all while ignoring the data, the science, the medical experts, and common sense. On "Morning Joe," the titular host went on a lengthy little rant about the need for people to wear masks. He gave grave intonations about Southern states seeing a summer rise in Covid cases, ignoring that just about every single state also saw these seasonal increases, and then implored people to wear masks, declaring how he wears one even though he hates doing so.

Of course, he was not doing so as he said this, and he also was not considering what else his mask lecture meant.

Pre-Written Field Reports – VICE NEWS

The best summation of our pandemic media complex has been how so many journalists insist that we follow the science all while they contradict and overrule science and medical professionals. (On Wednesday, we showed how the Florida Surgeon General was mocked by a Daily Beast intern.)

The latest is from Vice News, where they come out with a bold declaration – there is no such thing as Natural Immunity. This will rock the medical field, which has been alluding to this since the start of the pandemic.

DNC PR Firm – ASSOCIATED PRESS

Joe Biden's long-promised economic recovery has yet to take place, and it was dealt another blow as jobless claims actually increased for the second week in a row. Yes, unexpectedly. The AP did yeoman's work, explaining how this was a result of the Delta Variant and that it "likely reflected a technical problem in processing the claims." These were apparently not considerations when the announced figure was said to be about 30,000 claims lower than the reported 351,000.

Helping to explain away the issue of the unexpected rise was AP's Zeke Miller, giving his best effort to massage the data.

News Avoidance Syndrome – VARIOUS MEDIA

  • Some day the media will learn to stop predicting super-spreader events.

Time, once again, to point out how those in the press who tell us it is vital to follow science are in the process of ignoring scientific data. Two weeks ago, college football began, and many hysterics in the press had guests on, like Dr. Anthony Fauci, to express dismay at the packed stadiums, which would be promised to lead to massive spikes as a result. We still love the doctor who was outraged at the fans who would be "exhaling with vigor" at these games.

Well, it has been two weeks, and considering the incubation period, we should be seeing these promised spikes in cases from these reckless by now. Except, as Clay Travis from Outkick The Coverage notes, we are seeing something else – the opposite.

Legalized Press-titution – ORLANDO SENTINEL

You should feel ashamed. All of those harsh assessments of Joe's performance and the ineptitude you pointed out, as well as the mockery of his rambling speeches, has had an effect.

- "The summer was a rough one for President Joe Biden. But the events left another Biden feeling bruised. 'I love him, and it's hurtful,' Jill Biden said in an interview, the first she has granted to a newspaper since becoming the First Lady. 'I do feel the sting of it. I wouldn't be a good partner if I didn't.'"

Of course, when you complain about how tough things are for the president, and you display a picture of Jill Biden, you are making quite the admission.
