Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

Recently, at a campaign stop, Joe Wurzelbacher, a plumber from Toledo, Ohio, asked Barack Obama if the candidate's tax plan would raise taxes. Senator Obama replied, "It's not that I want to punish your success. I just want to make sure that everybody that is behind you, that they have a chance for success too." Obama added, "I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody."

Surely, now it must be time to talk openly about the S-word - socialism.

For months, conservative bloggers have been writing about Barack Obama's membership in the New Party, a political movement aligned with the Democratic Socialists of America. The New Party endorsed his successful 1996 Illinois state Senate campaign and Obama encouraged New Party involvement in his voter education and registration efforts. According to a 1995 issue of the Democratic Socialists of America newsletter, the New Party required endorsed candidates to sign a contract to have a "visible and active relationship" with the party. While the New Party has waned, the Democratic Socialists of America remain an active movement.

What do the Democratic Socialists of America believe? According to their by-laws, they

...share a vision of a humane social order based on popular control of resources and production, economic planning, equitable distribution, feminism, racial equality and non-oppressive relationships.

Surely, we can all agree with the values of racial and gender equality and non-oppressive relationships. Free market adherents believe in those principles as well. However, one may now see the intellectual foundation for Barack Obama's answer to Mr. Wurzelbacher. Re-distributing wealth is part and parcel of the Obama tax plan. He just didn't use the S-word.

And why not? Despite periodic, and hopefully temporary, interventions in free markets, (such as is occurring in the financial sector), most Americans do not want to live in a socialist nation. We value the kinds of personal and economic freedoms inherent in a free market economy.

When the productive plumber protests that his tax burden will increase, Obama intuits the problem inherent in "equitable distribution." He says to the questioner, "It's not that I want to punish your success..." However, punished success is just the mischief that successful Americans fear. Obama's desire to "spread the wealth around" may not come with malevolent intent, but to be sure, policies such as are advocated by the Democratic Socialists may result in inhibitions of initiative and innovation.

Rudolph Penner recently said on a C-Span call-in show that capitalism isn't perfect but it is better than the alternatives. Indeed, many have suggested that the current mortgage mess derives from well-intended attempts to spread the wealth around. In unraveling the causes of the housing bust, one finds multiple targets of blame. However, it seems clear that government policies which encouraged home ownership beyond a borrower's means were part of the chaos. In light of the federal government's inability to manage markets, it is a fair question to ask: Do we need more central planning or less?

Whatever your view of economic policy, shouldn't we have a public conversation about wealth re-distribution, and popular control of production and resources? The debates have been a profound disappointment in this regard.

I think the onus falls on the mainstream media to broach the S-word in questions to Mr. Obama about economic philosophy and policy. Mr. Obama, what did you mean when you talked about punishing success and spreading the wealth around? Is a move toward socialism in your vision for the nation, Mr. Obama?

I fear many Americans enamored with Mr. Obama's ability to revive the economy may be surprised that he intends instead to remake it.

If if looks like a socialist, if it smells like a socialist, if it sounds like a socialist...

THEN ITS A SOCIALIST!

Thanks for the wisdom Joe Biden's mom!

THE TRUTH WILL SET YOU FREE!
Good grief! Everything the man does, has done, WILL DO and says oozes SOCIALISM! There are many black Joe and Josephine "The Plumbers" also, who will NOT vote for the black? socialist Barack Obama! i.e.

THE HONORABLE JAMES DAVID MANNING, PhD-- Video about Barack Hussein Obama and how the "Great Society" has kept the black people in perpetual poverty and destroyed the black and white family infrastructure with Medicare, Medicaid and the LBJ welfare programs.

If Barack Hussein Obama is elected president, the Americans who have been CREATING JOBS in America will take their American companies, JOBS, investments and cash OFFSHORE, lest they become impoverished under the socialist leadership of a president Barack Hussein Obama.

Socialism...
is great, just for a test, give all your citizens free health care. Just wait and see, they'll think it's great!!!

The rest of the Industrialized World

WHY WAS THE S WORD SO LONG IN COMING?
His current policies only validate his background.

How about BO's MEMBERSHIP in the Democratic Socialist's New Party (NP)?:

"Barack Obama, victor in the 13th State Senate District, encouraged NPers to join in his task forces on Voter Education and Voter Registration."
http://www.chicagodsa.org/ngarchive/ng47.html

"Illinois: Three NP (New Party)-members won Democratic primaries last Spring and face off against Republican opponents on election day: Danny Davis (U.S. House), Barack Obama (State Senate) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary)." - NOTE - The actual website has been wiped clean but this archive page still exists:

http://web.archive.org/web/20010306031216/www.newparty.org/ up9610.html

"The democratic socialist vision does not rest upon one sole tradition; it draws upon Marxism, religious and ethical socialism, feminism, and other theories that critique human domination." - from the parent Democratic Socialist website of BO's New Party:

If anyone thinks BO has evolved from the "Ayers' days," think again. His campaigning for Marxist, Anti-American, pro - Islamo-Nazi Raila Odinga in Kenya (2006) puts that idea to rest.

Republican Socialism
bailout is socialized losses for taxpayers, last eight years repubs have paid for taxbreaks for the wealthy with middle class taxes, and Sarah Palin raised taxes on oil companies so she could give every adult resident of Alaska a bigger check at the end of the year, so who are the real socialists? Obama raises taxes on those making $250,000 or more from 36% to 39% ( a level established by Reagan's tax plan) to pay for a tax cuts for 95% Americans, how is that socialism?? Oh, I get it, when taxes are used to fund tax cuts for the wealthy, spreading the wealth upward, it is sound tax policy! when a tax increase on the wealthiest among us pays for a tax cut for the rest of us, it is socialism!! only wall street investment bankers and those in their hip pockets could come up with such a world view!!!

NICE TRY JOHN
at obfuscation. If the Dhimmicrats allow the "Bush" tax cuts to expire, as they have promised to do, that tax "rebate" will be a drop in the bucket in comparison to the reinstated monetary burden on the taxpayer.

In addition, how is BO going to pay for almost one trillion dollars in new spending? Raise taxes again? You bet. His track record as an Illinois Senator confirms this fact:

http://www.americansforprosperity.org/index.php?id=5103&st ate=il

Of course, this is of no concern to the 40% who pay no income taxes. I can understand the romantic appeal to liberals. Just like Robin Hood, right? Steal from the "rich" to give to the poor.

Here's an idea: How about BO redistributing some of the tens of millions of money spent on ads in Illinois, a state he has in the bag?

MSM
The mainstream media is not going to bring up the S word. Get real. These folks were indoctrinated in the unviversity system that fosters white guilt and denouces the pursuit of happiness as capitalistic.

Obama far worse than our worst nightmare
There is an article about the history of the radical progressive/socialist political movement behind Obama at http://www.justsaynodeal.com This terrible man truly could be the antichrist. the whole Paulsen thing with the crash of the mortgage companies was planned (they set out to overcome the american system, not to give houses to the poor, but to destroy us) to get this white/america hating piece of socialist garbage in the white house. pray that the Lord will have mercy on us one more time and defeat this terrible terrible movement behind Obama.

The Real Plumbers of Ohio

Read about the "Real Plumbers of Ohio."

And, Joe is not one of them:

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/20/opinion/20krugman.html?em

Obama only has 3 years to live???
If we do a simple math about how long Obama and McCain will live. Here it is ----

The maximum "mean" of Obama's parents age is 50 (Father died at 46, Mother died at 53. Total live span=99.) -- If this means anything, Barak Obama only has 3 more years to live, assuming his addiction to cigarette has not causing any health problem already.

The minimum "mean" of John McCain's age is 83 (Father died at 70, Mother is 96 and still feisty as ever. Total age=166. ) --- McCain will live another 11 years AT LEAST, if Roberta quit kicking donkies this year.

Either way, it looks like the chance of McCain outlive Obama is GRRRREAT!

Yun Wang

Spread the wealth around!!!!!
These words should be in every Republican ad from now to election day. The first order of BO is not to grow the economy through lower taxes but to spread the wealth around through a massive tax increase. The man is a true economic maroon!

STWA is Obama n Biden's way of not helping the poor and needy among us but as the way to punish the evil rich (corporations or individuals) and give to anyone who falls below their definition of well-off. This is pure class envy at its peak with BO being the offical decider of who should get what.

It is easy to see that Obama n Biden give not a whit about the poor and needy by the amounts these two Scrooges give to charity. Ask for a charitable handout from either of these two and get an extended middle finger in reply. But share the wealth that is the ticket to a just society.

From each according to his ability results in abilities being in very short supply. To each according to his need results in millions of the very needy.

Spreading the wealth around is a sure receipe for economic stagnation at best and a full scale depression at worst!

If it doesn't
salute our flag and it doesn't say the Pledge of Allegiance, it is Obama the leftist illuminati Socialist who will tear our country apart.

Socialism = Communism
If our media was not in the tank for B Hussin a socialist govenment would work like the robin HOOD theory. A Media with integrity would keep check on a socialist govenment. The American media is stirring the melting pot and boiling class warfare into the fire.
The Palin factor is a fine example. Take a governor of a great state that has used the harvest of its natural resources to help the citizens. Not to mention the best one on SNL.
Women beware, the new socialist regime that wants to win in November under B Hussin will treat all women just like they they treat Palin.
Equality is not in the muslim world.

The S Word
Hey Warren Throckmorten….. You wouldn’t know a socialist if she carved you a pumpkin. You guys always throw that word around whenever you don’t like somebody. And you like to talk about “redistributing the wealth.” Well, guess what. That’s exactly what that bailout was, a redistribution for wealthy people. That’s what the Iraq war is all about, redistributing power and money – global power and global money. The right wing redistributes for its wealthy friends all the time. You just get pissed off when somebody wants a little social justice.

William...
Called Patriotic a cracker...lol...Patriotic are you offended?...probably not. Now William you are one stupid a S S ni**er. Tit for tat,old sod.

Obama's 95% tax cut is really welfare!
Fox News brought on a former employee of the Social Security Administration to explain Obama's 95% of the working population "tax cut".
It turns out that it is really a system where he intends to give money in the form of "tax rebates" to the 40% of the working population who don't earn enough to pay any Federal Income tax but do make contributions to Social Security taxes. Obama intends to offset these workers Social Security taxes with refund checks from the Federal government taken from general revenue i.e. income taxes paid by the total population. In effect he is proposing transferring income tax money raised by increasing tax brackets on those who do pay income taxes and using it to offset social security taxes paid by the lowest 40% of workers.

This changes the Social Security system that Franklin Roosevelt implemented in 1937 from a pay as you go system that is already very generous to lower income workers into a welfare transfer system where low income workers pay little of the cost of their benefit and it is subsidized by the tax paying citizens from their Federal Income tax payments. Welfare in other words.

The current Social Security System already heavily favors low income workers by using long standing formulas that effectively give very low earning workers almost a dollar for dollar benefit against their average lifetime income, while the vast majority of workers receive only a fraction of the amount they earned during their working career as a Social Security benefit. This is the issue that Obama has been hiding from all of us for the entire campaign

Socialism
Socialism is a proven failure. The government running the means of prodcution is a consistent recipe for disaster. "From each according to his talents to each according to his needs" ignores basic human nature. The most important instinct is to survive. Food, water, and shelter are requirements for human survival. (If you think shelter isn't important, try spending an entire midwest winter or Arizona summer outdoors.) To acquire and keep those essentials you need money. Most people get money through work. The more specialized the work, the more money is made. (Doctors make a lot of money because they do a job that the vast majority of us are incapable of doing. The same is true for CEOs, business owners, athletes, and (mostly) entertainers.) In the socialist utopia, a doctor is paid the same as a laborer, despite the much greater skill and risk involved in being a doctor. With all jobs being paid the same, people will gravitate to the easier jobs. If those who do not work are paid the same as those who do, the incentive will be not to work.

Fingers
The one correct statement you made is that the recent mortgage bailout is wealth redistribution, which is why most conservatives opposed the measure.

Iraq has nothing to do with wealth. I don't care whether you believe it or not, but it's the truth. If we really wanted the oil that badly, why not just go in and take it? And why go after Iraq? Why not Saudi, which has more oil and provided a majority of the 9/11 hijackers?

"Social justice" is rarely just. "Just" means "fair." "Fair" does not mean "I win," it means everyone has the same rules, not the same results.

CRACKER?
"It's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations."
-Senator Barack Obama April 2008, San Francisco

I think William has infringed on BO's trademark.

The fault does not lie
with the media. We all know that the media is unconscionably biased in favor of Obama, but it is not the media's responsibility to challenge the politics of Obama

That responsibility lies with the people running against him and specifically the Republican party. They have been derelict in their duty not only with Obama, but with the way socialist ideology is encroaching on America as a whole.

Our Republican leaders should be sending up flares and shouting from the roof-tops that we are on the verge of losing everything that has made America great.

These cry-baby liberals who think they have it so tough because they can't afford an Ipod or a cell phone don't have any idea what real pain is all about. Our Republican leaders are so afraid of a little flak from the MSM that they can’t grow enough ba--s to tell the Americans we are facing a crisis that will make Fannie Mae and Freddie look like a day at the park.

They should all go rent the movie Dr. Zhivago. Then maybe they will understand what can happen when people demand “change” without a clue what kind of change they will get.

WATCH THIS SPACE FOR BIRTH CERT DECISION
There is reason to believe that a decision on the Berg v. Obama lawsuit is close. See for yourself:

http://www.americasright.com/

What he said.
Obama said, " how many plumbers do you know who are making $250,000."

Was he making fun of plumbers, or people who work hard and try to make as much as they can, or was he just being an arrogant snob?

Hypocracy
You so-called Conservatives make me laugh. You cry out in horror when Obama suggests some form of Socialism, yet vigerously defend the opressive "Income" Tax which is plank # 2 of the 10 Planks of the Communist Manafesto:

2. A heavy progressive or graduated income tax.
Americans know this as the 16th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, 1913; The Social Security Act of 1936.; Joint House Resolution 192 of 1933; and various State "income" taxes. Absurdly referred to as "paying your fair share".

You are no different, and no better than those you deamonize.

What you are sucessful at, is knowing that the sheeple are to fat, stupid and lazy to do ANY form of research that will interfere with "Dancing With the Idols" or whatever it is called, and will march lockstep behind empty slogans and empty suits, same as the German people did in the late 20's and early 30's.

Yep, Obama's a Socialist, so are most Republicans AND McSame:

The Bail out
Why are you people arguing about the bail out? Let's see, the problem was caused by the Democrats so of course it went thru Congress. Do you think Pelosi would have supported it if it was a Republican problem? NOT!!! Come on. We were sold down the river by Bush and the Dems with threats that this would be worse than the great depression. Maybe a light at the end of the tunnel will be some money back. Highly unlikely, tho, in a Democratic led Congress with a Dem President, but a dim late none the less.

Who can't afford a cell phone?
For a family of four you can have $1,527/mo in income and still get welfare. That doesn't include the SSI you get for one of your kids. You receive $825/mo including rent allowance of $450. Your food stamps total $588/mo. You receive help with child care expenses. Your medical is covered by the government. Your boyfriend deals drugs and give you money from that. You have a nice tv and a cell phone. The gov't paid to get you a car that runs and paid your first month's car insurance. That's America.

Now, Obama is promising you more help. You're excited. Maybe you can get the LCD tv you've wanted for awhile.

Is this really poverty?

We net around $3,500 month and receive no help. Who's worse off?

Who's better off?

Isn't any body angry?
When Joe "the plumber" asked St Obama the question and St Obama answered, isn't anyone angry when the liberal press started looking into Joe's life like a proctologist? We are supposed to be a free people, and we shouldn't fear to ask any question we want to our lawmakers. Yet, because Joe asked St Barack a question he didn't like, Joe is now the guilty party, instead of St Barack. And yet, not one of our citizens are upset. Why?

Adam Smith on Taxes
The garbage that the Far Right writes is truly becoming voluminous!

A case in point is the notion of Taxes and Taxation being Socialist.

Read the words of the Great Free Market Economist himself - Adam Smith ...

"The subjects of every state ought to contribute towards the support of the government, as nearly as possible, in proportion to their respective abilities;

that is, in proportion to the revenue which they respectively enjoy under the protection of the state."

from:
Volume II of "The Wealth of Nations". Book V, Chapter II, part II.

That's one of the main points of PROGRESSIVE TAXATION - the redistribution of Income!

To Buck
I think that now that Joe the Plumber has been fully vetted by the liberal media, he sould run for office, and as far as his tax issue he can claim to be suffering form "Late filing Syndrome"

see todays NY Times artical on tax cheat and top aid to NYS Governer Paterson

"Governor’s Aide Had ‘Late-Filing Syndrome,’ Lawyer Says
By NICHOLAS CONFESSORE and JEREMY W. PETERS

Gov. David A. Paterson’s top aide, who failed to pay income taxes or file returns from 2001 to 2005, was afflicted by “late-filing syndrome,” a condition that made it difficult for him to fill out his tax returns, his lawyer said on Wednesday.

The lawyer, Richard S. Kestenbaum, said that he believed that the aide, Charles J. O’Byrne, despite an annual income of about $100,000 and an Ivy League education, could not bring himself to undertake the task of filling out his tax forms every year. Mr. O’Byrne and his doctor have described him as clinically depressed during that period.

If it looks & sounds like socialism. . .
I spent the first 30 years of my life living in a nation that started out a free market and slowly eroded into that of a socialist one. Social medicine is great . . . if you don't work; social welfare is great . . . if you don't work. Ultimately, if you don't want to work, socialism is the cat's meow!
While living and working in Canada, I earned just shy of $50,000/year by working 2 jobs. I struggled to pay rent, owned a junky old car, and ate mac n cheese more often than steak or even burgers for that matter. You see, since everything was socialized there was no incentive for people to work - the government would look after you. Unemployment was thought to be "low" when it dropped below 15% yet businesses (small and large) couldn't fill empty positions - why? Because there is a certain percentage of people who don't want to work!
The guy I rented a room from never worked a day in his life (except menial, cash under the table type of jobs) and yet he owned his own home, a new car, a motorcycle, and a boat. He always had money to "party," wore nice new clothing, and never had to worry about whether or not his bills would be paid on time. Why? Because I, and many like me who were raised to work hard and take pride in yourself busted our butts working 2 jobs just to make ends meet while the government took close to half our paychecks to ensure that those with with their hands out always had their pockets full.
Eight years ago I got fed up with that system, moved to the United States of America (legally) and I never looked back. Trust me, I've been there, and although Bush was bad and McCain isn't all that - Obama's plan scares the heck out of me.

formerly Rhodesia
I understand Rhodesia was the breadbasket of Africa. They renamed their country, tossed out the white guys, redistributed farmland to the natives. Now things are more equal for most people. Inflation is close to 1,000,000%. Spreading the wealth around wasn't good for the people of Zimbabwe.

Attacks on Joe and other ramblings
Buck:
I knew Joe the Plumber would be getting the third degree for daring to ask a question the second I heard about it. This is exactly the kind of gangland thug tactics Obama cut his teeth on in Chicago politics. The idea of Obama as somebody who is a centrist that can reach out to everybody is a joke. All of his early mentors are terrorists, racists, thugs, etc. He has no concern for his own brother living in poverty in Africa. He only cares about power and getting ahead.

People like Joe will always be trashed when they cross such a man. This is why Democrats are so eager to reinstate the Fairness Doctrine; so they can better control what people have the ability to say.

Ralph:
Using a progressive income tax does not automatically equal income redistribution. If the tax is simply going to provide for the actual costs of running the government (i.e. defense, government buildings, etc) this does not equate to massive income redistribution. It is when the progressive tax is used as a means of funding entitlement programs such as food stamps and welfare that it becomes redistribution.

That said, however, it does not follow that progressive taxes are the best way to go simply because Adam Smith recommended them. The writings of Adam Smith are not the Bible. They are the thoughts of a wise man who was right more often than he was wrong. If a better source of information shows that one of his approaches is not the best way to go, let's follow the better way.

OBAMA LIES, BANKS DIE
Obama insisted that the current financial crisis was caused by the failure of the Bush Administration on de-regulation and that John McCain was part of the cause. Yet, it is the failure of the subprime mortgages that was promoted by Obama and the Democrats to allow affordable housing the every one with Freddie Mae and Fannie Mac as the key tool to spearhead this goal. The Bush Administration has asked 11 times for tighter restriction on Freddie and Fannie. John McCain introduced a bill for more oversight on Freddie and Fannie. Each time, the likes of Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, and Obama took the task to deny the request or defeat the bill. So, the actual failed policy is the policy of imposing any regulation on Freddie and Fannie to allow the social engineering of affordable housing for every one. Now Obama claims that his socialistic proposal to raise taxes and to “spread the wealth around” would bring us out of the financial crisis. This policy has been a proven failure in every socialist and communist country. Obama lied about his role in the financial crisis. He lied about the cause of the financial crisis. He lied about the right fix for the financial crisis. Obama lies. Banks die.

John...
What you and other Obama supporters need to understand about this ‘Joe the Plumber’ issue is that it has absolutely nothing to do with ‘Joe the Plumber’. It is all about Obama’s unscripted, unguarded and, therefore, totally honest answer to the question that ‘Joe the Plumber’ posed and what that response reveals regarding Obama’s true ideology.

Those of us who disagree with Obama’s ideology as revealed in that answer do not care about ‘Joe the Plumber’ accept to the extent that he is the one that finally asked the question. We would have preferred that one of the MSM talking heads had asked that question but they did not. ‘Joe the Plumber’ did. Beyond that, who is, what he is, how in debt he is and what trade license he does or does not have is totally irrelevant.

Presumably, those who agree with Obama’s ideology as revealed in that answer should celebrate his response and be equally unconcerned about the character of who asked it. The only reason for them to do otherwise would be concern that others who do not agree with what that response reveals regarding Obama’s true ideology may, thereby, be less inclined to vote for him. Therefore they seek to distract attention away from that real issue through character assassination of poor ole ‘Joe the Plumber’ and allow Obama to gain the Presidency while hiding his and their true ideology from the many they know do not support it.

MICHAEL SAVAGE TALKING ABOUT BIRTH CERT
I read today where Michael Savage, the third most popular syndicated radio talk show host in the country, has started giving the B.O. birth certificate issue a lot of airtime.

Let's make sure all our talk show hosts, local and national, hear that we want this issue brought up on their shows!

Ralph
Where does it say in "The Wealth of Nations" that money should be paid those who do not work?

Non Sequitur
Some of the posts here seem to take the following approach:

"Anti-Obama people criticize Sen. Obama as a socialist for stating that he will 'spread the wealth'. But the current administration and Congress have spent tax money on the bailout, which is redistributing the wealth. So you should vote for Sen. Obama."

No, that argument fails. It is "non sequitur". Spreading or redistributing the wealth according to government dictate is bad, whether it is the current administration and Congress, or whether it is one who hopes to lead the next administration.

Socialism is bad, because the few set wages and prices. Capitalism is good, because the many set wages and prices. Socialism is bad, because the few tax the many until they have less freedom to direct theier earnings. Capitalism is good, because the many have more freedom to direct their earnings. Socialism is bad, because it elevates government power over private property, and weakens contract law. Capitalism is good, because it honors private property, and honors contract law. Ultimately, Capitalism helps the poor more than Socialism.

The golden coin of national freedom has democracy on its political side, and capitalism on its economic side. One side allows people the freedom to vote for leaders, and the other side allows people the freedom to vote for products.

Barack Obama is more socialistic than John McCain. John McCain would make the better President.

I HEARD A QUOTE TODAY
"All democracies eventually fail when its people begin voting for money".

Ralph On Adam Smith
From what I can assess of Adam Smith’s writings in ‘An Inquiry into the Nature And Causes of the Wealth of Nations,’ your citation needs expansion.

He begins book V, Chapter II, Part 2 by stating that the private revenue of individuals arises from three sources: rent, profit and wages, and that every tax is paid from one of these three sources. When speaking if taxation in general, Smith did write:

“The subjects of every state ought to contribute towards the support of the government, as nearly as possible, in proportion to their respective abilities; that is, in proportion to the revenue which they respectively enjoy under the protection of the state.”

But, he noted in Book V, Chapter II, Part I:

“THE funds or sources of revenue which may peculiarly belong to the sovereign or commonwealth must consist either in stock or in land.”

When he spoke of the direct tax upon the wages of labor , he wrote:

“The declension of industry, the decrease of employment for the poor, the diminution of the annual produce of the land and labour of the country, have generally been the effects of such taxes. In consequence of them, however, the price of labour must always be higher than it otherwise would have been in the actual state of the demand: and this enhancement of price, together with the profit of those who advance it, must always be finally paid by the landlords and consumers.”

He then surmised that direct taxes upon the wages of labor are “absurd and destructive.”

The entire text can be read here:
http://www.adamsmith.org/smith/won-index.htm

While my readings are not conclusive, I am not as inclined to believe that Smith’s belief in progressive taxation applied to income tax but to the taxes addressed in Articles I and II: land and stock.

If anyone has definitively studied this area, I would appreciate your comments.

Stop shoving important aside 4 trivial
Who cares if Joe is a plumber or not. The important thing was Obama's answer to a good commonsence question.
At least Joe had on his thinking cap, which all of you out there"dumber than rocks" and enamored by Obama's "elequont" speeches, full of sound and fury but signifying nothing, need to pay more attention to exactly what Obama's answer really means.
Stop making Joe the sacraficial lamb to Obama's plan for the destruction of the "American Dream."
Name one 3-4 generation welfare receipient that is even trying to make something of themselves.
I grew up on an indian reservation and can tell you that the Federal Government single handedly destroyed a great, proud and wonderful people. In some cases it took away their identity.
Look around you today. Look at the kooky things our youth wear and how they mudilate their own bodies searching for their own individualism and identity.
Under BO, he will attempt to further strip us of our individualism and identy making all of us, for the good of the central society, like the "Borgs" in the star trek series.
