Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

What more can anyone say about the 1960s and all its legacies?

Those who protested some 40 years ago often still congratulate themselves that their loud zeal alone brought needed "change" to America in civil rights, the environment, women's liberation and world peace. Maybe. But critics counter that the larger culture that followed was the most self-absorbed in memory.

Everyone can at least agree that the spirit of the "Me Generation" is not going quietly into the night -- especially since that generation ushered in a certain coarseness and self-righteousness that still plagues our politics.

Take grandiose sermonizing about changing the world while offering few practical details how to do it.

Al Gore recently prophesized that America within 10 years could generate all its electrical needs from "renewable resources and carbon-constrained fuels" -- mainly wind, solar and geothermal power (which currently together account for less than 10 percent of our aggregate production).

In truth, that daydream has about as much chance of being realized by 2018 as Al Gore this year swearing off the use of polluting SUVs and gas-guzzling private jets as he whizzes to his next environmental pulpit.

Barack Obama, a child during the '60s, is imbued nonetheless with that decade's "hope and change" messianic sermonizing. Now he wants a new mammoth government-funded "civilian national security force," one "that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the Pentagon.

Sounds utopian, but at a time of record aggregate national debt, are we really going to borrow another half-trillion dollars a year to fund a kinder, gentler version of the military?

Gore and Obama may mean well. And we may someday rely mostly on wind and solar electrical power, and even benefit by having more aid workers abroad. But they discredit their proposals with '60s-style exaggeration and feel-good fantasies that cannot be realized as promised.

Another permanent '60s legacy is the assumption that the ends justify crude means. The so-called netroots bloggers often celebrate online with glee the illnesses or deaths of supposedly reactionary political opponents.

The crass anti-war group Moveon.org was not just content to object to Gen. David Petraeus testifying before Congress last autumn. In the fashion of 1960s agitprop, it had to go the next step in demonizing at a time of war our top-ranking Iraq ground commander as a traitor -- a "General Betray Us" as the group's ad in The New York Times blared.

Due to a "grassroots effort" to garner thousands of petition signatures, the city of San Francisco will have on the November ballot a measure to change the name of one of its water "pollution control plants" to the "George W. Bush Sewage Plant." What a national trend that would be! Should red states follow that pettiness and rename their own sewers and dumps after John Kerry or Bill Clinton?

We still suffer from the same 1960s juvenile petulance when the powers that be did not immediately fall in line as protestors demanded.

Now the spirit of that age permeates Congress, whose members won't drill oil off our coasts or the continental shelf, or in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. Yet in infantile fashion, they rant about "Big Oil's" high gas prices. So, Congress instead threatens to sue OPEC to be fairer and to pump more oil. And we beg the Saudis to drill and pump more in their waters so we don't have to in ours.

Even in the much-poorer 1960s, it was hard to take seriously the idea of loud middle-class suburban kids as street revolutionaries, given the fact that America was the richest and freest society in history. And it's even harder now when many of them are rich seniors and the country itself is far wealthier.

So when a member of the aging baby-boom generation finger-points at us that drilling oil is the moral equivalent of invading Iraq, or that America has become two nations (the haves and have-nots), we can often expect to discover that the self-righteous sermonizer is a hypocrite. Green Al Gore uses a lot more energy than the average American. Populist John Edwards lives in a huge mansion.

By now, we've grown accustomed to elites railing about America's pathologies from the comfort of their own privilege -- along with the usual ‘60s-style apologies that their own lives don't need to match their rhetoric, and that we should just concentrate on their near-divine messages. In their defense, they can't help it -- it's still a '60s thing.

The 60's were
the best of times, and the worst of times. One cannot blame the 60's generation for all of today's ills. It was a Democrat President in power when the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was approved. It was a Republican who took the dollar off the Gold Standard and gave the government free rein to print paper at their leisure. If anything failed in the 60's, it was the bureaucrats of BOTH parties, which by the way, still remains the case today.

We seen Apollo 11 land on the moon, and a U.S. WIN in Vietnam on the battlefield, yet lose the war because of brass seats. We seen a hotel room burglarized, and Pentagon Papers exposed (Ellsberg). We seen demonstrations in the streets across the country which today's generation would never have the ****s to consider.

The 60's were a time of great accomplishment and radical change. I believe that this same thing could be said for most generations of the distant past. The 60's are not to blame for elitist attitudes of today, it is selfishness and self-gratification that motivates many. The "me" generation perhaps was in its infancy at the time, but it's certainly matured in full splendor now.

Old Hippies In Power
Who do you think is running this Democrat Congress, academia and the public school systems, social programs, the ACLU, La Raza, etc. These are the hippies who used to protest at their college campuses. They got educated and got into positions of power. Look at how 40 years later, a socialist liberal is running for POTUS. They don't say "groovy" or wear their long hair and tie-dyes anymore; they wear suits and ties, but they're still the radical hippies they always were.

We Can Get This Done
I'm trying to figure out whether this article is about energy policy or just another opportunity to bash the 1960's. I would imagine Gore chose the ten-year time frame in an effort mirror JFK's challenge to land a man on the moon and return him safely within that time frame. Mr. Hanson says it can't be done but I read his bio and don't see where expertise in the field of energy in there. There are many people in the energy field, T.Boone Pickens, among them, who seem to believe we need to make a serious effort to develop alternative energy sources. His motivation is profit, a motivation of which I assume Mr. Hanson approves. We need to begin now, not when the oil fields are exhausted. We had an opportunity to do this over 30 years ago and blew so let's not do that again. The markets will obviously play an important role in alternative energy development. Even the oil companies are spending a great deal more on alternative energy development. We will probably wind up drilling for more oil off our coasts as well but everyone knows that will not solve the supply issue. We should embrace the challenge to remind ourselves and show the rest of the world that we the technological and industrial powerhouse we always were.

60s - Empty and Going Nowhere
The Boomers threw tradition and morality to the wind to remake the world into something that operates on love, unity, hope and change.

However, love, unity, hope and change are empty sentiments unless they are for something greater than themselves. But being narcissists who never grew up, the Boomers thought everything, including love, unity, hope and change, was about them. As a result, the world didn't change, and they found themselves in middle age, their best years misspent, their first families broken, and their lives going nowhere. And yet they still refuse to grow up.

What a stupid, foolish, narcissistic generation, the Boomers.

I am sick of hearing about the so-called
60s. First off, most of the cr!p that people attribute to the 60s actually occurred in the 70s. Second off, the protestors and the hippies were a very small fraction of the youth.

The entire 60s things is manufactured hype from the press which is what Albore is. Everytime he goes somewhere for one of his completely idiotic pack of lies the press is there to stick a microphone in his face. He is the Rev Jackson of the eco-idiot movement.

People, he is just like a troll. Ignore him and he will go away.

The road to hell
is greased with good intentions. Mr. Hanson writes: "Gore and Obama may mean well." They may also not mean well. I am certain Gore doesn't, and every day Obama gives me more reason to suspect that he doesn't either.

It's sad...
It's sad that one of the greatest generations of Americans produced the dumbest. I'm talking about the parents who fought in WWI and WWII and lived through the depression and worked hard with one goal in mind to make a better life for their kids.
Well, some of these self-absorbed kids whose life was great and worry free are now our liberal policy makers and are destroying everything their parents and grandparents gave them.
My grandmother whose 92 this fall is still quick witted and funny but she can't understand why this is going on she tells me that this isn't the America that they worked for and "it's a crying shame" that the policy makers have forgotten what made this country great.

My take is "borrowed" into a quick slogan if you will..

Yesterdays flower children, are todays blooming idiots.

Follow the money.
The most probable reason for any politician's opposition to expansion of our domestic oil production is that he or she is being funded by some sheik.

Forward to the Sixties
The effete, pot-smoking refugees from the Sixties still think they can change the world by singing "Give peace a chance," and hugging a tree.

They may have reluctantly put aside their psychedelic drugs and cut their hair but their mental processes are still stuck in 1969. Even a child eventually realizes "Wishing something doesn't make it so."

The universe is a tough neighborhood and it doesn't respond to the fantasies of environmentalists who want to "save" the earth even if it means suffering and the deaths of millions. There is no difference between the Aztecs sacrificing virgins to change the weather and the '60s refugees imposing stringent controls on energy to save the earth. In both cases people suffer and die unnecessarily to appease the beliefs of irrational evil leaders.

The symbolism couldn't be more explicit: A Sixties love child (Obama) vs. a real world warrior (McCain).

A cigar for VDH here.
Overall, a good article.

I especially agree on the self righteousness and the self absorption of the 60s' generation.

A most narcissistic generation. And it does have a high regard for itself(which is largely unjustified by the way).

Obama's call for a civilian national security force along the lines and the size of our military force is a fanciful chimera.

I do think sending more military to Afghanistan may not be the answer(which is what both Obama and McCain want), but Obama's notion, for example, could encompass a civilian cadre of experts that can help Afghanistan set up corrupt-free police and other govt services, set up schools and medical clinics to serve Afghans. Afghans would have to agree to this plan, of course.

We do some of that already, but not nearly enough.

In the longrun, this will do far more in getting the people on our side...and not thousands more military boots on the ground.

We don't seem to understand that many of the inhabitants of nations we invade regard us as(gasp)...invaders!

Who woulda thunk that?

One final point. This "child" of the 60s )can be very much in favor of domestic drilling, and still oppose Iraq.

inspired by Fidel?
"Now he wants a new mammoth government-funded "civilian national security force," one "that's just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded" as the Pentagon."

First time I've read of this, but surely I can't be the only one to be reminded of the "neighborhood watch" in Cuba.

Obama's National Security Force
Which would be as "well-funded" and "empowered" as the U.S. military (but unrestrained by the Posse Comitatus law against domestic action) sounds (to me, speaking as a history buff) less like Fidel's "Neighborhood Watch" and more like the Sturmabteilung- a paramilitary force intended to intimidate and silence his political opposition.

But this is a very typical mindset of the "sixty-eighters", as I think of them. At heart, they do not like democracy, have no patience with it, and hate, fear, and despise their fellow citizens whom they perceive as being less "enlightened" than they perceive themselves to be. Hence, they believe that they are justified in using "extreme measures" to ensure that they, and only they, have a voice in the nation's affairs.

It's unfortunate but true that if you scratch a supposedly broad-minded "progressive", you almost invariably find an authoritarian megalomaniac under the surface.

Vic is right
The hippie scum were a small percentage of loud, spoilt brats and hangers-on (look for a copy of Charles Reichs The Grening of America for a good laugh) that as usual were worshipped and glorified by the media and expanded to look as if they represented a Movement. The majority of us were hard-working blue collared kids who were frequently the first generation to graduate from high school, much less attend university, and who knew where we were headed and bitterly resented the hippie scum for disrupting our chance to get educated and move into a good job that would let us help our younger siblings and eventually our parents.

Womens Liberation helped me personally, not because I hate men but only because I have always believed that I am not half a human being and I CAN stand alone -- and if I do the same work I deserve the same pay and not to be told that I am taking bread out of a familys mouth because I insist on being paid for my work. (I also deserved to rent an apartment without the signature of A Man.) Most of the feminists I knew in the seventies and eighties were of like mind, and many more still are.

And today the whining about how The Boomers collectively have ruined the planet is also fueled by the media. The majority of us continue to support our families, our parents, our businesses and incidentally, your Goodies.

You will all be really sorry when we retire and your secretary has tattoos, is late to work every day, and only speaks Text -- and your own inabilities to read, write and think are no longer hidden from the world.

'We Can Get This Done'
Edward of Ct writes:
'I'm trying to figure out whether this article is about energy policy or just another opportunity to bash the 1960's.'
Edward-
To me, it seems the point of this article had been stated quite well in the final paragraphs..
Personally, I think it is fine to call these people on their actions.

The PROBLEM,
It is not the 60's, 70's, 80's, 90's, or today.

It is not the weak, or the strong, or the sick or the healthy. It is not the poor, or the rich, or the ignorant or the intelligent.

The problem will be here until,

...A day on which he is going to judge the world in righteousness... Acts 17:31

Until men see the world as God sees it talking about the problems is a lot of lala.

And Forums like this one lean on the side of Lala rather than God.

Don't forget Marxism
The children of the '60's who considered themselves revolutionaries, like William AYers, were wedded to Marxism. Obama's mentor in Hawaii was an avowed Marxist, and the creator of Black Liberation Theology, which is taught at his church, was created by an avowed Marxist, James Cone. As I am a college professor, I can attest that there are plenty of Marxists in university who have no qualms about indoctrinating, rather than teaching, their young impressionable students. That is why the youth of today cannot achieve critical thinking and see Obama for the empty suit he is. Or see how empty his promises are. Or how narcissistic "We are the people we've been waiting for" is as a slogan. Sheesh. Thinks a lot of himself, doesn't he?

The Sixties
The revolution was simply about lrejecting all authority -legitimate or otherwise, for absolute freedom (drugs and sex and the right not to fight at first)These people have destroyed the black family under LBJ, eroded God's authority, under their so called cultural "change." We now progpagandize for the left in government schools, make laws in the supreme court, openly work for leftist candidates in our constitutionally protected media, sanctified perversion, glorified sex as recreation, substituted fatherhood with a nany state, faced enemy religious fanatics who aim to destroy us with nice words and head in the sand politics, openly worshipped the environment, rather than wisely use our God given resources, and a list too long to mention - nevermind discuss.

They have succeeded well in corrupting a once proud and moral land vested in following God given values and have turned it into a self-seeking, deceit loving, destructive shodow of its former self. We have eagerly let the inmates run the asylum and we wonder why there's confusion and we're weary....

Bush Sewage Treatment plant
I think the president should take the wind out of the liberal's storm by acknowleging the similarities in the ability to remove all the filth and waste and providing a clean source of life for the recipients downstream.
Like a treatment plant, a president must be able to filter and remove the garbage in order to provide life giving benefits to the public.

Yuck
a "government-funded civilian national security force"
Makes me think Hitler Youth...

The 60's
protesters caused 2 million deaths in Cambodia, disintegration of the black family, dumbing down of our education system, affirmative action, and levels of narcissism never seen before. They have a lot to proud of.

'60s Useful Idiocy Redux
As a result of having given credence to the lie of moral relativism and political correctness, which allow for on-demand abortion of innocent lives and which holds that marriage between two men is as morally acceptable as life-sustaining marriage between a man and a woman, we are fast becoming a culture of death. All-too-eager to reject anything that hints at a Judeo-Christian ethic, we have become a society rushing headlong towards our own annihilation.

It is no wonder to me, then, that under the emblem of “political correctness” we have become a nation with no set of cohesive moral values and one so divided into our own little “special-interests” groups that we cannot find it in our collective will to mount any effective defense against an enemy that suffers from no such confusion in the unity of his convictions.

While the Hollyweird crowd (and their sycophantic groupies of gay men and whorish women who cheer them on) exalt in their death-dance orgy over the grave of American tradition and Judeo-Christian values, they do so under the delusion that that very morality (and Pres. Bush's standing to fight) is what our Islamic Fascist enemies abhor; never realizing that they themselves are what makes America detestable to those who seek our ultimate destruction.

The very definition of "useful idiots."

Being a 50's person
I read Silver Lion and wonder if he knows how the 60's compares with generations of the distant past. In no way was my 50's anything like the standards and values breakdown of the 60's. We would never have said,"If it feels good, do it". And where did the selfishness and self-gratification come from? It came from a generation of huge numbers who had an inordinate influence because of their sheer numbers and were able to overwhelm and impose their pleasure seeking on the nation.

Vic
Be patient my friend. Anytime now, YEARS of Drug Abuse will serve as The Yucatan Impact for the Drug Addled, Tree Hugging, Leftover Hippie, Dinosaurs.

Armigerous
For Drug Legal, Sanctuary, City, Prostitution on The Ballot, San Francisco to call ANYONE OR ANYTHING ELSE a Sewer Treatment Plant show what a bunch of DELUSIONAL DOPERS run that town.

Thankfully I didn't see the 60s
But the 90s were bad enough. I don't want a repeat.

McCain 2008

JimP
Could you please either add something to the conversation...or stay out of it? This a forum that is devoted to conservative politics and discussion of the issues of the day, which is why so many conservatives and liberals come here. We are here to discuss and debate the issues of the day, and would like to do so without the self-righteous like you butting in!

There are plenty of Christians here (including myself), but we realize that life is not one long Bible study group and that we had best be engaged in what is going on around us, not blissfully allowing whatever happens to happen. We understand that no matter how much we would like to think otherwise, we are in this world until we go to our reward...so we may as well beactive participants. And I don't think that God is going to be angry that we have myriad interests, so long as we keep Him first.

Armigerous...
..careful now, you're ridiculing the next Govenator of California.

The 60's

were the time in which the virulent attitudes associated with that time did indeed metastasize into real political action. Much of the mindset had been an undercurrent in the USA since the time of the Progressive Movement, particularly the disdain for the Constitution.

While Silver Lion rightly points out the accomplishments of that period, one cannot avoid the enormous damage that was done then, which persists to this day.

During that time, most of us kept our heads screwed on straight, attended classes, and became actual adults.

Sometimes I wonder how different things might have been if some of us had taken the time to climb the steps of the Student Union and punch the lights out of the malicious twits with the bullhorns. A weekend in jail for some of us then might have been a worthy price if the result would have been less of the dangerous nonsense we now endure on a daily basis.

Don't really want to fix the problem
Maybe it started in the 60s, or maybe it just evolved out of "60s" thinking, but in the left's minds, awareness has replaced actually getting the job done. It's caring without the hard work.

I first really noticed it when the whole AIDS "awareness" movement exploded around Hollywood. Sure, it's great to be aware of the problem, but donating money to raise more awareness instead of putting the money towards, say, research? I realized that the awareness crowd went over the edge when I think it was someone involved with MTV announced a college scholarship to be awarded to someone who promoted AIDS awareness. The money could have gone to a medical school to offset a student's tuition, but nope. The scholarship probably went to someone who studied something useless and became an activist for whatever was trendy at the time.

Imagine 40 years ago if the attempt to put a man on the moon evolved into an "awareness" campaign. The Soviets would have beaten us, but darn it, we all would have been aware.

Two extremely relevant points
Mr. Hanson makes two points in this article that pretty much sum the idealistic, narcissistic mentality of the left.

1. "Yet in infantile fashion, they rant about "Big Oil's" high gas prices. So, Congress instead threatens to sue OPEC to be fairer and to pump more oil."

2. "we've grown accustomed to elites railing about America's pathologies from the comfort of their own privilege"

My translation: Liberals are accomplished at pointing the finger but absent on taking action as they lecture to the cheap seats from their cozy lounge chairs.

No greater values exist for the
"Me Generation"

Hanson writes:
"is not going quietly into the night"

And into the night they go tossing flowers to each other and vindictive revengeful and spiteful words of mockery and scorn for any values that came from the wisdom of the past.

Psalms 81:

12 So I gave them up unto their own hearts' lust: and they walked in their own counsels.

Nothing can be done for people who love their own lusts above any other value in the world.
Nothing is sacred to them but their own lust, their own will.

Going against Nature and Natures Laws defiantly, screaming as they go.

There is no barrier they will not tear down to continue into the madness they follow and claim with their mouth they have the answer.

Apostle Paul wrote about such days of darkness long ago, the 1st century, and it is not "new" as they preach it is, its the same very old destructive selfishness it has always been, right from the beginning.

Romans 1:
28 And even as they did not like to retain F8 God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

AynRandLives
WoW!!!!! Now this refreshing. A college professor that doesn't espouse the far left idelology. It's a reminder to me NOT to give up on the educational system. Even my brother, who is a middle school teacher, is becoming a little bit more mellow in his political views. I've heard and read some articles by David Horowitz that shocked me. What can those students in the public school system do when they are a "captive audience"? I can a future problem, even worse than now, by having those "indoctrinated" minds in public positions! Keep up the good work.

The value of Judgment is lost
With even the Church's, the Synagogues teaching and preaching not to judge anything.

Taking themselves out of the fight, and stand on the side lines watching like spectators for a game.

The culture war can be seen in the "war on terror".
There is no front line.
No divisions facing one another, as there is no divisions between good and evil in the masses of today in their eyesight.
As every man will do what is right in his own eyes.

Few lights are burning to show the way, the path to peace.

The lines are there and exist between good and evil, but the darkness of the times keep them hidden from the view of the public.
Their eyes are focused on the deceivers, the liars, they hypocrites, the perverted, the degenerates, the insane, the mindless blobs of government fools, morons bear the standards for the madness of ignorant, the willing self delusions of the age we live in.

The Judgment is made and cannot be abolished by Congress or the Supreme Court.

Wisdom is mocked and spit on today by fools, fools who are rushing into hell and destruction.

Loving death over life in worship of their own lusts, and calling it "freedom" and is more binding than chains of any slave.

Proverbs 8:

1 Doth not wisdom cry? and understanding put forth her voice?

36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul: all they that hate me love death

Love for death, no different than a suicide bomber islam has praise for.
People really do love death over life, all those who reject the wisdom of the past ages for a "new world age"
ha ha
Its very old, old immorality

thoughts...
1. Bashing the Sixties is a good thing. I, for one, can't do it often enough.

2. A proposal for a national security force is idiotic enough for me to vote for the opponent of said idiotic proposal.

3. Algore is a product of the Sixties. It doesn't get any worse than that.

For Edward - the juvenile
“I would imagine Gore chose the ten-year time frame in an effort mirror JFK's challenge to land a man on the moon and return him safely within that time frame.”

If that’s true then Gore is vastly more stupid than any of us could have ever imagined, since these tasks are not even remotely comparable. How about a week, since that’s how long it took god to create the world?

“Mr. Hanson says it can't be done but I read his bio and don't see where expertise in the field of energy in there.”

As opposed to that esteemed scientist and weather expert, Al Gore.

“…we need to make a serious effort to develop alternative energy sources.”

Duh. What do you think people have been doing for many years now? The problem is that every alternative source that’s been developed up to this point is very inefficient relative to fossil fuels, and each presents its own set of problems. But we’d love to hear YOUR ideas on how to solve this problem.

“The markets will obviously play an important role in alternative energy development.”

Gee, no kidding. Any business that offers entrepreneurs and investors the opportunity to make money will develop naturally on its own, correct? What does this say about the market for wind and solar technologies? Given the public’s interest in alternative energy, why aren’t these industries booming? Answer: because they are EXPENSIVE and INEFFICIENT relative to oil. By blocking access to drilling, the libs are doing their best to ARTIFICIALLY enhance the market for wind and solar. That’s a fools’ game.

Counter Culture
One idiom I remember from the sixties was the term “counter culture”. It was manifest in the Hippie, a classless degenerate, debased of morals, incapable of coherent reasoning because they were too stoned to care. It was Peter Pan on Pot, only this time Wendy was willing to wed for weed.

Mr. Hansen is right. Forty years of self-righteousness has led to a brand of self absorption and coarseness that only succeeded in elevating shamelessness to art.

I almost...
got caught up in that mess. Most of my friends did, however, none of that flower power, all you need is love, etc. lured me in. I saw degrading of morals and a lot un-patriotic activities going on. Where I grew up, if you weren't a doctor or a lawyer, you more than likely worked in one of the GM plants. That's when I made my decision to make the break and went into the military. Those others that stayed, either wound up dying early from stress, etc, or sucumbing to drugs. I guess I don't have to say that I'm glad that I made that decision.

It's really sad that those in "my generation" still just don't get it! They are still looking @ the world through those same rose colored glasses. They still don't get it that there are some things that you just don't change for change sake. There are really bad people in this world that would rather kill you as to look @ you. And, you wouldn't even have to do anything wrong to them. And there will ALWAYS be the ones that have $$$ and those don't.

Baby boomers
The world will be a better place when this generation dies off. Or becomes to old and stroked out to talk. I would like to strangle Gloria Steinem with her bra. My parent are from this generation and they did their "Daughters" a tremendous injustice. Our culture now expects women to work because our economy has adjusted to our culture. We have to leave the home and work just to get by as a family now, thanks to twits like her. Homemakers are something to be disdained because they aren't fulfilling their potential-they are being suppressed by men. Bull crap! I would give anything to be able to stay home and raise my 4 year old daughter, but I have had to work full-time her whole life just to keep my head above water. Feminists can all go to hell!

Everyone on the left talks about the
national debt, but say nothing about the 700 billion that is sent overseas for our energy needs. the left doesn't want to do anything meaningful to get us out of this problem. They want to try some new untried idea. They love europe but do not won't to use them as an example of how to get out of this energy crisis. France uses nuclear, Hollands windmills only work a certain percentage of the time. Look overseas for problems and solutions.

The Sicko Sixties
The sixties was the beginning of the slide to the place we are today. It is a bit of a stretch to say before the sixties we lived in 'The Age Of Innocence'. However, compared to life today,it is not a big stretch.

While conservatives bear some blame for what we have become, liberals are the main culprits. They have changed society and the change is not pretty. We will never get our innocence back and that is a shame.

It is true we boomers screwed up,
but many of us eventually saw the light. Unfortunately, by the time we were old enough to see the foolishness of our ways, the DEM/GOP/MSM propaganda machines had enabled the elites to take over the government. Both parties are equally guilty, having abandoned real leadership for the partisan battle for power at any cost.

Our task this election is to break the virtual lock on power that is held by the elites from both parties. They are all infected with the internationalist agenda that sees the New World Order as a socialist utopia for the uneducated masses.

The idea that we must vote the lesser of two evils needs to be exposed for the scam that it is. We should not fall for this myth that we have no other choice, nowhere else to go. Why believe that, because the elites tell us it is that way?

Einstein defined insanity as doing the same thing, expecting a different result. Guaranteed, if we once again elect an elite from either party, we are going to have more big government, less personal freedoms, and see the influence of the internationalists increase.

I would encourage any of you who wish to see HOW the elites have perpetrated this scam on America to visit my website, JOEOLIVAFORPRESIDENT.ORG. I hope you will read the article I wrote entitled 'A Message To Young People'.

Also, if you find you don't like my position on the issues, you will find links to 20+ Independent/Third Party candidates who have websites you can explore. One additional note: if you want an opportunity to write your own article or start your own discussion thread, check out FireSociety.com, an excellent grassroots site where the topic of who to vote for is covered from a number of different angles.

This is the election and now is the time for us to reclaim the inheritance the elites have stolen from us! If not now, exactly when are we going to do so? Do you think the elites will restore Constitutional self-government to this great nation? Thanks, Joe

Flagwaver,
Thanks for reinforcing my point by giving a post with a lot of lala.

Your request for me please stay out? Are you the monitor of these forums? If you are you're doing a good job. I've considered your request and decided to ignore it like your lala.

Yeah, the 50s were far better
"Duck and cover", Elvis Presley swivelling his hips, Joe McCarthy ruining careers, no contraceptive pill, segregation, the Soviets beating us in the space race, no McDonalds only Wimpy, railroads and trolley car lines being torn up for freeways, polio... it was bliss.

Then along came Dem Pesky Hippies, who were simultaneously a tiny unrepresentative minority and responsible for everything that's helped put us in the toilet.

This history lesson was brought to you by the VDH School of Formal Logic and Measured Evaluation.

"Joe McCarthy ruining careers"

Speaking of McCarthy, I believe one of his proteges was a certain junior senator from Massachussetts. What was that senator's name again? Was it, um -- John Fitzgerald Kennedy?

60's
America's worst generation. Thanks for the mess.

WILL
Dem Pesky Hippies were representative, though a minority. The squeaky wheel gets the oil and hippies squeaked.

Elvis was 'squeaky clean'compared to the 'crotch grabbing'rap singers with their filthy lyrics of today.

Joe McCarthy was a truth-teller,who was much maligned for telling the truth about communists. He should have ruined many careers. Maybe communism would not be so rampant today ,especially in Hollywood.

The 'pill' started the 'sexual revolution'that is part of the moral decay of today.

The other complaints you made would have evolved differently with a more innocent populace.

LBJ, nice guy underneath.

Ken, libs and the left seem to forget a lot of the people old Joe caught up with were commies. As for JFK, didn't he pick a segregationist for VP? I marvel to this day how any colored person, let alone 95 percent, votes for the party that enslaved them for 90 years, lynched them for a 100 and managed to destroy their family units in 40 years. Talk about bizarro world.

MCCARTHY
"....an after-dinner speaker remarked that he was proud Harvard had never graduated an Alger Hiss and even prouder that it had never produced a Joe McCarthy, JFK exploded in anger. Rising at his seat, he shouted, "How dare you couple the name of a great American patriot with that of a traitor!" JOHN F. KENNEDY, by Joyce Milton page 89-90J

Joe McCarthy has been proven right about Soviet communists in high places in the FDR and Truman administrations by the declassified Verona Project and KGB files. This information is now public knowledge. But to liberal lemmings stuck in the '60s, including some in the BO coronation campaign who called the Clinton's Mccarthyites, facts are irrelevant. In fact, reality is irrelevant.

patriotic
When I was in college in the eighties, it was still fashionable to depict Alger Hiss as a "victim of the McCarthy era." They blamed that mean old Richard Nixon for "persecuting" the "innocent" Hiss. Just a few years later, public records were released which proved Alger Hiss was indeed a Communist.

And liberals wonder why we question their patriotism?

patriotic
Liberals see nothing wrong with communists today, even though they are a much more virulent strain. Their goals are of collectivism/communism or any other ism except capitalism.

They see nothing wrong with the government owning and running everything from the cradle to the grave. They want us unbelievers to help pay for their plans to destroy capitalism.

WHERE'S A MCCARTHY WHEN WE NEED HIM?
Here's a link to BO's favorite communist:

Bipartisan glee
FTA: "The so-called netroots bloggers often celebrate online with glee the illnesses or deaths of supposedly reactionary political opponents. "

That's a bi-partisan netroots phenomenon. Have y'all read the comments from right-wingers about Teddy Kennedy's medical situation?

Sad sad state
Knowing full well this isn't the '50s what we need to do as parents is follow in the lead of June Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver or Harriet from Ozzie and Harriet. Family dinner discussions going to the kids school to check up and dish up punishments for slight infractions.
TV and Cable along with other vocal special interest groups have destroyed the American Family and the people to blame are the people born from one of America's greatest generations

Baby boomers led a life far more easy than their parents and while some of them were into peace love and dope others sat on their proverbial tushies and watched. The bra burners and save the wales types infiltrated families from the inside. Parental concessions were made to keep the peace instead of getting their fannies tanned.(punishment bad-free reign good attitude)
Thus destroying the family discipline and in turn the family unit. It became the goal of the times to entitlement from big government.

While I was born early 60's I thankfully was raised by grandparents who didn't go for that bologna so popular in the late 60's and early 70's. (those pre-indigo kid types)
I've homeschooled all 3 of my kids and they knew tough love, they love our country and they're hard workers.
They didn't run wild and get into trouble like their friends because they knew they'd be punished.
We are an old fashioned family in a radical world.

The '60s Won't Go Away
Is right
If one does not believe the big change in public conversation and morals did not begin in the 1960's, they are wrong.

It did begin in the 60's, and the perceptive people recognize its beginning.
Especially 1967, the change was discernible in the very atmosphere of the public.
I am one that seen it, and living in the Bay area of SF.

There was also an event that happened in that year, that had been told of 3000 years before, and was fulfilled in that year.

Israel incorporates Arab Jerusalem with the rest of the city June 27 access to the Wailing Wall, first time Jews controlled Jerusalem since the days of Nebuchadnezzar

This is called the Time of the Gentiles.
From the captivity to the restoration of Jewish control over Jerusalem.
Fulfilled in 1967

Course only the students of the bible will understand how significant this all is and the connection to Americas downward path into the immorality of today.

Luke 21:
20 And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh.

24 ...and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

He who lets it happen is still in control anyway, and judgment cometh in the night

Acts 15:
14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up:

Israel is now the strongest nation of the mid-east.
Just as it was under David.
And gentiles are fallen into immorality, once again.

"Vision is the art of seeing things invisible." -Jonathan Swift

Nutty, liberal politicians
Yeah, the 1960s are, unfortunately, alive and well in California. Just look at our once-proud state's nutty politicians on the national scene -- Nancy Pelosi, Dianne Feinstein, Barbara Boxer. Not a brain cell among them. All "sensitive" liberal thinkers (translation: kooks) who are not even qualified to be dog catchers, let alone make policy from Washington.

Has somebody told them that they're qualified to be in Congress, or are they just too stupid and self-absorbed to just think that they are? I will vote against all of the above when they come up for re-election -- and recruit as many people as I can to do the same.

Patriotic (#8) and Joe McCarthy
Thank you for defending the tragically maligned Joe McCarthy. If any one episode in history proves that liberals have no conscience, the unjustified annihilation of Senator McCarthy is it. There are only two possible reasons that the libs continue to smear McCarthy: they are ignorant of history or they have no shame. Either one is inexcusable.

BTW: "Robert Kennedy asked McCarthy to be the godfather of his firstborn child (the eventual Democratic lieutenant governor of Maryland, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend)" from Blacklisted by History - M. Stanton Evans

Talk about coarseness
The early 60's were really almost the golden era of America. Only in the 2nd half of that decade did the decline begin. Especially the moral decline of America and it is still going on. Give me Mayberry and the Beaver any day instead of this.

Marijuana = Liberalism
I guess you haven't heard that marijuana takes you to a whole new level of consciousness. It is no coincidence that all of this complete lack of common sense comes from cities that have legalized marijuana like S.F., and it is also no coincidence that the people that go to the "medical" marijuana clinics all look like hippies and are all 60 to 70 years old. Maybe the rest of us should just get on a regular marijuana diet, so we can "get-it". Liberalism is either a mental disorder or a drug induced lack of common sense!!

Deeply Ashamed
I am deeply ashamed of my many sins, especially those of the sixties.

A recovering alcoholic, I'm making amends as much as humanly possible.

I'm a social conservative these days; a fiscal conservative; and an America-firster to the extent that this is what is necessary for our Homeland Security. I'm more open than ever to the philosophy of Novak, Scheuer and Buchanan.

God Bless you Jack,
In your struggles. You sound like a man in the right kind of struggles.

Jack
I could have written your comment about myself. Living in "the gray areas" is a dangerous place for me. Clarity and peace of mind have returned. I resist "progressivism' for the threat that it is to our country, our kids and those who still suffer.
May God continue to bless your efforts to stay sober.

Like
loco I remember the 50's, even with it's warts it was still a happier, safer time. We were busy raising our family in the 60's and 70's, I was a stay at home mom and it was tough even then to raise 6 kids on one income and a part time one. Reward is a family of great kids and 5 are conservatives, and we are working on rehabilitating the prodigal adopted son.

Talent Scout, as always enjoyed your posts.

The 60's
I can safely say that most of us Kansas kids of the 60's were not flower children or any reasonable facsimile thereof...in my HS class (1967) you were still regarded as "low class" if you used drugs...maybe I got lucky, as I married a farm girl from northern Kansas and we raised 2 children, both now gainfully employed, paying their bills and being solid citizens...we're now in our 35th year of marriage and neither of uas has ever bothered with using a "recreational drug"...some of the troubled narcissistic types would call us "boring"...we relate to sane, stable, secure and responsible...

I know the feeling Jack

Been there myself, and was as miserable as one can get.
I took a hold of the hope the Lord Himself has given for all of us, and he is still working for any man who will do as he said to do, and call on Him for the help we need.

Many years ago, and I have still made some shameful mistakes, but I embraced the promise His Grace would remove the shame once I confessed and forsook my own errors.

God forgives still yet.
Thank God for His unspeakable gift, the Lord Jesus Christ.

The real secret is simple accepting the Lords Forgiveness Jack, He is willing and able to forgive us of all our sins.
If not, no man would ever stand uprightly as we all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God.

I wish you God Speed in finding His Blood is the power that destroys all shame once we call upon Him in true repentance, he is there right on time.

God does not need any of us to cleanse ourselves, He is Able to clean us from all sins and shame.
And then Keep us, if we want to be kept.

May the Lord show you Himself, and He will by His Spirit, by doing what He has said to do, Call upon the name of the Lord.
Jesus Christ
Sorry if this post is seen as poking into your business, as I thought about if I should say anything or not.

Took the chance, and will accept you telling me to mind my own business if you determine I should have just left it alone.
