A Speech Sen. Obama Could Have Given

Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Had Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., just said the following words last week in his speech on race in America, his problems with his former pastor, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, would probably now be over:

“You have all heard the racist and anti-American outbursts of my pastor Rev. Wright. They are all inexcusable. His speeches have forced me to re-examine my long association with Trinity United Church of Christ. And so it is with regret that I must now leave that church.

“I had heard similar extremist language of Rev. Wright in the past, and now apologize that I did not earlier end my attendance and contributions. Had I long ago expressed my strong objections to Rev. Wright’s views, such opposition might have suggested to him a more moderate path.

“But any good that now might come by remaining steadfast to Rev. Wright in consideration of our long past friendship is outweighed by the damage that would accrue from the sanction of his extremism that my continued attendance at his church might convey.

“I have loyalty aplenty, but it is to the truth, my country and universal tolerance, not to any one friend, however long and close our association.

“Allegations that America helped to cause -- and thus deserved -- 9/11 and that the U.S. government engineered the AIDS epidemic, as well as the pastor’s slurs against ‘white people’ and Secretary of State Condeleezza Rice, are not reflective of the views of mainstream black America and they have no place in any house of Christian worship.

“It would be easy to claim that Rev. Wright’s biases are no different from those voiced on occasion by our own family members, our pastors or political leaders in the public eye and therefore not so injurious to America. That defense of false equivalence, that ‘others do it all the time,’ is a common one offered by those who offend the public sensibility.

“It would also be easy to excuse my pastor’s outbursts by citing the long tragic history of the African-American experience. After all, every extremist outburst always has a particular and perhaps mitigating context.

“And finally it would be easy to suggest that the special landscape of the black church allows a sort of venting and role-playing unlike other common venues in America. It has often been a refuge from white oppression and a place to make sense of the tragic history of race relations that plague us still. That and the good that Rev. Wright has done could also be an extenuating circumstance.

“But neither Pastor Wright nor I -- a candidate for the presidency of the United States -- can afford to find refuge in any of these relativist explanations. To do so would not merely exempt the statements of Rev. Wright from proper censure, but also would have the effect of offering endorsement to them. Here is why we must not and will not do that:

“First, today’s America has evolved into a multiracial society unlike anytime in our long history. Each of America’s groups has unique grievances, based on their own past ordeals.

“So now more than ever in American history, there is need to establish a universal, absolute standard of public discourse in which no individual or group claims extenuating circumstances to demonize other Americans. Otherwise, the bar will have been lowered -- and Rev. Wright will be followed by merchants of hate of every sort, each citing his allowance as a pass for his own hate speech.

“Second, we are in our fifth decade since the landmark civil-rights legislation of the 1960s. And while the African-American community has made enormous strides, it still has not achieved parity with either the white majority or some other minorities. The reasons are complex, but they cannot be simply reduced to white racism or the purported pathologies of the United States as Rev. Wright supposed. We African-Americans must be as vigilant in demanding an equality of opportunity for all Americans as in ensuring that crime, illegitimacy, drug use and the failure to finish high school are no higher in the African-American community than in others.

“Third, Americans were appalled, as was I, at my minister cursing the United States. But we must always appreciate the unique nature of America, an experiment that unites a multiplicity of religions, races and ethnicities, and endures only to the degree we all adhere to a common set of values. We must never think that because the United States has sometimes not been perfect, it is not good.

“The hard work of creating and improving the United States required centuries; the easier task of tearing apart America can be done in a generation. But neither you nor I can or will allow that to happen. Thank you, and God bless the United States.”

Terrific
What a refreshing speech yours would have been. You're right. Your version would have put the Wright whole affair to rest. Apparently Barack's unique biracial experience does not give him magical insights into the larger American psyche after all.

The speech the MSM said elevated Barack beyond Lincoln, MLK and JFK combined is all but forgotten, but the controversy rages on.

Juan William said tonight: Barack's going to have to readdress this issue. Well, I don't think there will be a do-over. He shoulda got it right the first time.

In other words, you want Obama to crawl
Is that what the daily attacks have been about. Obama hasn't crawled enough to be forgiven for words he didn't say. It really isn't about the Reverends tapes is it. It isn't about the remarks about this country. It isn't about Obama exposing his wife and children to Reverend Wright. Nor is it about Obama remaining a member of the Reverends church for 20 year. It all boils down to Obama has forgetten his place. Forget how far we've come. We haven't come this far, if Obama is expected to crawl to be able to move on with his life. Hillary didn't have to crawl, nor did anyone come out and say Hillary should have said this. Hillary's rejection was accepted and forgotten. Hillary was allowed to keep her pride. In order for the daily attacks to end, Obama has to repeat after me words written by someone else in order to get the same approval for his rejection, Hillary got for her's. Better yet, why don't we just get a measuring tape, and measure off how far Obama must crawl in the dirt before the daily attacks end. This seems to be the only way Obama's rejections of Reverend Wright will ever be accepted. I'm sure seeing Obama crawling in the dirt would please a lot of people. Especially those who given the tapes a life of their own.

A great speech....
...if Obama was a conservative Republican!

With all due respect to VDH...
...there is no speech -- real or imagined -- that Obama could have made to redeem himself from his association with this "church." At best, his failure to leave Rev. Wright's creepy little cult many years ago reveals a moral laziness contradicting his pretensions of leadership. At worst, it suggests he shares the twisted values and bigotries of his spiritual and moral mentor.

No decent American would abide the viciously racist and anti-American drivel coming out of that place for a single sermon, much less two decades. The simple act of returning time after time, year after year, to that place disqualifies Obama from any position of public trust.

It would not redeem him, but there is one acceptable speech Obama could give: "Considering my willing association with, and support for, Jeremiah Wright and Trinity United over the course of more than two decades, and considering their message which I have heard and understood without protest these many years, I now realize that I am unfit to lead a nation that is dedicated to the principles of tolerance and equality before the law and our Creator. I am not worthy of high public office. I hereby announce my withdrawal from the Democrat presidential nomination race, and my resignation from the United States Senate."

Don't hold your breath.

Yes, but...
... the room would have emptied! Some of his 'followers' would have left in anger by the fourth paragraph & the rest would have been asleep by the eighth, what with no chanting of "Yes we can!"
And BTW, please stop 'sighting' those Carthaginians. Makes me nervous, as I thought the Romans took care of those guys long ago!

Obama
Obama reminds me of this Douglas Adams quote.

"He attacked everything in life with a mix of extraordinary genius and naive incompetence, and it was often difficult to tell which was which."

Is Hannity a hypocrite about Obama?

Captive of an Obsolete Culture
Barack Obama probably had a better launching pad to a successful career than 99% of his contemporaries, both black and white. But it seems clear that he cannot rise from "the sense of entitlement" miasma, which black preachers support and encourage. Both Rev. Wright and Rev. Manning, a Clinton supporter, have the same style of preaching: they adopt street accents and street brio "talking down" to their brethren. Away from their churches they seem to be eloquent intelligent men but for some reason when they put on ministerial garb they turn into rabid rabble rousers. To Barack this "preaching" may seem perfectly natural and acceptable but to most Americans it is repulsive. It is a fatal defect in his campaign that he cannot understand how repellant this "preaching" is to most Americans. His inability to rise above, or separate himself from, the scapegoat culture fostered by African American preachers probably will destroy his campaign.

Race, Religion & Reaction (of the Left)
Actually, Barack Obama's problems with the Rev. Jeremiah Wright are just BEGINNING. With the issue of "race" still riding high, the issues of ideology and of religion per se are standing by to stir the "Hate GD America" pot even further:

First, to discover both Barack's and Hillary's deepest ideological roots, simply Google Search each of their names with those of the Marxists SAUL ALINSKY and ANTONIO GRAMSCI -- and their infamous "March Through The Institutions" method for gaining control over one and all ("one" meaning you and "all" meaning everyone and every thing else, as well).

Second, to better understand the true nature of Rev. Wright's "Black Liberation Theology," we need only recall the fact that in the mid-1980s the late, great Pope John Paul II formally declared the Marxist-Leninist and Castroite scam of so-called "Liberation Theology" (Black or otherwise) to be a HERESY -- stating in part that "there can be no true liberation if, from the beginning, the rights of Liberty are not respected."

And, of course, the principal repressors of such Rights of Liberty in Latin America just happen to be Rev. Wright's wonderfully "Progressive" friends -- Fidel Castro, Daniel Ortega, Hugo Chavez and the late Ernesto "Che" Guevara.

JIM GUIRARD -- TrueSpeak.org

Excellent...
I'm sending this to my son...an ardent supporter of Obama. While I'm at it I will send this to the local Obama for president office.

Black Guilt
Obama is a successful Black man who feels so guilty that he has succeeded -- not only by ACTING White, but by BEING at least half White -- that he has found it necessary to become Blacker Than Thou.

I expect to see him at least once during this Punch and Judy Show dressed in droopy pants, his hat on sideways, talking Jive to his Homies, in an increasingly desperate race to be Black Enough.

I have often heard my Black friends say that sooner or later you have to choose sides, and if you want to be a success, you have to be prepared for the Brothers to desert you. This is similar to the realization once a girl finishes High School that nobody cares any more if you are *Popular*.

Black Guilt. That is all that tedious blabberfest was and all it will ever be. Had a totally White man made that speech, it would instantly have been branded Pandering. For that is what it is.

You Are Correct, Hanson, But
I prefer his speech - no doubt more like him than your words. His was a complete sell-out to race hustlers. I'm taking a hike would be a good way for him to conclude his I-read-a-speech from the teleprompter. Those were a composite of his and many people's wiggle out.

Adopted Uncle
In 1983 Barack Obama graduated from Columbia University and while still in his mid twenties began working as a community organizer on the south side of Chicago. Having grown up without a father and in a non religious environment, it was then that Barack Obama began attending Trinity United Church of Christ and met the pastor of the church, Rev. Wright, a black man 20 years his senior, who became influential in his life and became part of his “family”, his “adopted uncle”, a man who helped Barack Obama become a Christian believer and later married Barack and Michelle Obama and eventually baptized each of their 2 children.
Barack Obama has strongly denounced Wright's hyperbolic, 1960s style radical rhetoric that Wright has used in a few of his sermons that is based on Wright's anger and bitterness which Obama understands but doesn't share. But Barack Obama has refused to disown his "adopted uncle" simply for political expediency.

Chosing Sides
Yes, I think bHussein Obama has chosen sides and it's not the side of white America that's for sure. There is not a single white American that could have survived bHussein Obama's speech or pastor if the race was reversed. Michelle Obama and Wright are bHussien Obama's main mentors and they have make no bones about how they feel. They are in the open about their feelings unlike the duplicitous bHussein Obama.

No, James B....
.....the discussion about Wright & Obama's stupidity in maintaining loyalty to him has not been left behind. You'd like it to be left behind, wouldn't you?
The people have heard it and internalized it, as they have Mrs. Clinton's absurd lie about sniper fire on the tarmac in Bosnia.
The house of cards is toppling.

No, Maverick....
...once again, you're simply wrong.
Long-winded, but wrong.

the speech Obama should have given
Correct, Mr. Hanson, but implausible because that speech assumes the candidate has character and Obama does not. He is self-serving and personally ambitious; therefore, he says whatever he has to in order to placate the majority. Obama would never have given this speech because all he offers is empty rhetoric. Obama is shady - sells himself for a mansion in Chicago - he puts himself above morality and ethics. Obama lies - said he was a law professor:not true. Obama is an equivocator - good at parsing words and hiding meaning and spinning pretend, but truth never emerges from his "talk."
Obama is a dissembler - he talks about uniting, but believes in division and hatred and pay back. Obama is selfish - exposing his daughters to Wright's disgusting vileness for Obama's political future and using "typical white people" for their "guilt" vote. Obama and Clinton are frauds and posers, shams who should be embarrassed by their falsity. Their failure to be so supports their emptiness and dangerous self-centered ambition.
Words of such honesty and truth and moral compass could never pass from Obama's lips because he isn't capable of any of them. He has proven that time and again. His audacity is assuming that "typical white people" are the fools Wright professes us to be. If Obama possessed any shred of dignity, he would have left Wright's church years ago. Obama stayed because it was advantageous to his self, his ambition, his desire for power. The fact that he is a US senator is disturbing enough, except that there he joins the ranks of murderers such as Kennedy.
Americans owe no one their vote, but especially not Obama. His support for anti-American, anti-white hatred alone removes him from the slightest consideration as a candidate.
Obama is hopeless.

Well hell...
if he had said all that, I WOULD vote for him, and I have been a Republican all my life.

Wright wasn't just his church's pastor.
If Obama had simply been a sporadically attending member of that church, he could plausably distance himself from it.

But he wasn't. He didn't just HEAR Wright's vile hate speech for an hour or so on some Sunday mornings.

He deliberately chose the man, over all other candidates, as his mentor - the person he wanted to learn from, to emulate, to gain wisdom from.

He also chose him as his spiritual guide- the person he thought most qualified to help him to understand how to be a good Christian, how to follow God's will, and how to be a moral, decent human being.

These decisions indicate one of two things. Either Obama's judgement is absolutely terrible, or his morality and belief system are absolutely terrible.

Either way, the choice not just to associate with Wright, but to elevate him to one of the top few most important people in his life, should disqualify him for ANY position of responsibility - let alone the presidency.

Barak's remedy
Perhaps Barak Obama could calm the storm of rhetoric if he were to say that his final Authority is the Bible not Jeremiah Wright's erroneous delivery of its teaching. And if he would declare that no church or denomination has precedence over one's personal relationship to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, he would most certainly gain hearers. If his principles as President of the United States are based on the Bible and the Constitution, then he will overcome his opposition.

the oblahma dilemma
how can he be the great unifier when he can't distance himself from the teachings of wright and his afrocentric hatred for whites. Telling america that granny being nervous abouyt aggresive black panhandlers and using racial epithets makes her a typical white person paints america a land of intollerance and racist. It seems that the oblahma is far more interested in maintaining his black identity than in reaching out to all of america whom he thinks he has been called upon to lead. But the messages he has absorbed from his 20 years under wright's tutaledge, the anger and victimhood exhibited by his wife shows the oblahma has in the twpo people he has kept closest to him both racist and anti american in their viewpoints. Advancing victimhood over unity isn't going to win the presidentcy. But the msm has invested all their energy in his election and finding out that rather than be the new golden boy with the vision he is simply another with a list of grievances that he expects the govt to resolve. But acting as though america can purge it's guilt over the sins of past generations by electing him president is the ultimate in victimhood mentality

Mr.Hanson
True to your "Racist" nature, which has been shown before, only you have the answer. It must be nice to be "GOD".There are those rare instances, when an "Intellectual" allows you to view, the "WELL of Thought",on which their intellect rest.No "White Man President",would probably cause many insecurities in men like you.Herefore, this has been the response when threatened;Throw way morals, decency, fairness and all we stand for.As long as we maintain our "IMAGE" of control. These are the men who hate women, others and themselves. The greatest "LOST" is their own,for they have never known "LOVE".Have a great day "FATHER"!!!

Defenders of the indefensible
such as maverick, Boutte, refatsew are not persuasive. Blacks have "jumped the shark" and regardless of all your words this situation is not behind Obama and he will not win the presidency.

Victor Hanson's article shows the nature of real statesmanship and not the empty excuse making of Obama.

M Sederoff
The reason he didn't say those words is that he lacked the courage to do so. Or else he secretly agrees with Wright. That would explain the flag pin flap, as well as his wife's comments that she had never before, not once, been proud of this country. The next few months are going to be a lot of fun. Obama will doubtless go into the convention with a delegate lead, but that doesn't guarantee him the nomination, assuming he lives that long. The Clintons' past is littered with dead bodies of those who dared stand in their way.

If he had said all that
I would have thought someone else wrote his speech.
Zero stars for this one.

Influence
Blacks have suffered because of white influence.

Obama can't be influenced by blacks.

huh???

Some of the posters here have redefined influence.

Could you liberals post a dictionary here so that we can try and understand what the h*** you are talking about?

Afican-Arab
Yes, bHussein Obama could have chose his white relatives as the side of his family he wanted to identify with. After all they are the ones who mentored him and nurtured him when he could not do that for himself. The other side of his family deserted him, but he chose that side to identify with, African Arab, and those folks are known for their penchant for pay back, revenge, eye for an eye, deadly retaliation, and generational blood feuds. They are not known for negotiations and seeing the other side of the argument at all. They enjoy confrontation and never admitting they are wrong. This is the way that bHussein Obama has chosen and it's most evident in his refusing to wear the American flag pin, and refusing to disassociate himself from Wright, and his throwing his white nurturing grandmother under the propaganda train. The classic Arab attack is to swoop down as if from nowhere, strike, then vanish into the shimmering heat waves. bHussein Obama has appeared on the scene as if from nowhere, he has struck. I am wondering about the third phase.

white liberal guilt
Obama knew he couldn't throw the pastor under the bus without losing the black vote. However he knew he could count on white libs to vote for him no matter what he said.To prove it one only has to read some of these posts.

That's right Victor
Of course Victor knows all he needs to know about Dr, Wright and Trinity church because, after all, he's seen three short video clips of the man, and, as we all know, that is more than enough information upon which to indict a person and a congregation. No need to dig any further or any ask any more questions. Just grab hold of that opinion and never let anyone wrestle it away from you, no matter what other facts might pop up to contradict your opinion.

You go Victor!

Phylo out.

Rob
Please tell me Sir,Where did I SLUR?Mr.Hanson, who has never been to a black church in his life, know the proper context from which Mr.Obama is to speak. This when properly examine tell me that Mr.Hanson's approach is somewhat dishonest and expected. The "TRUTH" is, every "White" person in America benefits from having a White President.Older White men are more reliant on this benefit, than the younger.I intend to probe my own prejudices and all others in every way I can.You want to discuss RACE.I will not stop, until I see BLOOD.Like "Jimmy Lee Swaggart said;"I didn't Start it but I Intend on Seeing it Through".I don't have use "RACIST" epitaphs to wage discussion. Most of "US" provide our own!!!

Mr. Hanson
And so why aren't men like you serving as representatives in our government? It's dirty work but we need some good, honest, humble conservatives. Willing to get beat up and sacrifice their lives. We have enough commentators we need men or women of action. Are you electable?

Racism
In any form, Obama is a racist. And if we believe his pastor... everyone except African-Americans, who were not born in Africa, will be slaves while they rule over us. Personally, this is pertinent to the next presidential election. I have no intention of letting anyone, regardless of their skin color, becoming a slave to anyone else in this nation. I will make sure that he does not get my vote or anyone else I know because I will make sure that everyone I know is informed of who he actually is and his character. You cannot sit under someone for 20 years, whom you consider a mentor and not have the same mentality and character of the person.

killer
This country is not divided by race. It is divided by those who produce and those who use the power government to steal from those that produce and feel justified in doing so. My grandmother always said two wrongs do not make a right.

Rob
That is a statement, I would make in your face.If it were true.In the case of Mr.Hanson it is true.Mr. Hanson has as a hero Winston Churchill.Mr Churchill, from the age of 18,harbored the thought of Anglo Superiority. It was embedded in his speech and actions. For most of the past 127 years, this has been one of the guiding forces in the life of the "WHITE MALE".It was the place, which produced his manhood.Look at history, then assess, without prejudice, that which you have been shown. If I were to tell you;that in 1937 ,Churchill,Roosevelt and Stalin met to create the "Anglo Empire".What would you say? There is evidence, which may reflect just that. The best thing a man can give his father is another man.For those who attended Michigan, that means, "Be Your OWN MAN".

Obamanation - A Poem To Make One Shudder
Obamanation - A Poem To Make One Shudder
OBAMANATION

Obama goes to church for twenty years
And sits and listens with those huge ears
Yet, expects us to believe he doesn't hear?
That's an Obamanation.

And have you noticed how close a name
Can be to a person's lifetime game?
Like Hitler's name's a clue - A. Hit.
And that's an Obamanation.

I get a bad feeling when I hear
The name that goes with those big deaf ears,
That pray upon our racial fears,
I hear an Obamanation.

Goodbye to hope and peace and change
Obama's sainthood is most profane
Please do not laugh at my explanation
Obama is an Obamanation.

It seems like God is sending us a clue
To protect our red, white and blue
From false prophets, the likes of who
Bear clues - It's Obama, Nation!

His preacher-monster, hateful bigot,
Spews death and blood like an open spigot
Don't join the ranks of foolish exaltation
I believe he'll lead us to O', say it, Bomb A Nation.

The devil assumes a pleasing shape
While teaching hatred of whites, that is spiritual rape,
What's in his name that excites my imagination?
I believe he wants to O', say it, Bomb Our Nation.

He wants to bomb America, that's right, with "change"
Whatever that means, it is horrifyingly strange.
To preach hatred of whites must bring condemnation.
I can not vote for an Obamanation.

This time the tide is turning
Too bad you folks at Townhall.com don't bother to listen to what was said.......
http://thefiresidepost.com/2008/03/27/this-time-the-tide-is -turning/

That WOULD have been a landmark speech!
And may have sealed the deal on his nomination AND election. Thank goodness his handlers don't have Mr. Hanson's insight and reason.

Operation Chaos is alive and well and with a little luck will continue until November!!

Republican Morons
Can you people think for yourself or have you been permanently hypnotized/Hannitized?

I have very good friends whom I disagree with politically. People say for 20 years...blah blah blah...
If you folks are honest, which is hard to imagine, an honest conservative...ha ha (thou shalt not kill, but I am for capitol punishment and every war I can get my military into..)

I have been attending the church on a regular basis and I was shocked when I saw the video. The rev goes over the top all the time but nobody agees with him...Its the here we go again thing

Do not put your hope in Obama
Obama is just a man. He has charisma but you must look past that and listen to what he is saying. He is a socialist. Socialism does not work.

No-way
To Black folks Obama is the choice because he is Black."Maybe we can get some reparation dust"

To white folks Obama is the choice because he is different,well-spoken,appealing, liberal, will bring about change, is a uniter, gives good speeches. Now white people discover he is not such a good guy...his character is truly flawed ...he is a bigot...he is a wolf in sheep's clothing...he is not an American patriot!
I'm sorry people...this man should be disqualified for the position of POTUS...PERIOD

Choice of language
I find it interesting that liberals, IN GENERAL, call conservatives names when they disagree. Liberal bloggers frequently use foul language in their postings--and I'm talking about general posting, say talking about something in the news, not just in rants--conservative bloggers are guilty in rants, as well. But I don't see nearly the level of contempt liberals have for conservatives even in the worst conservative rants.

For instance: I say a liberal's view is twisted by his or her hatred of Bush and I'm called a moron or worse.

GnuCarSmell
You are correct. Not only did he fail to abandon the church long ago, but he continued to subject his daughter to the racial bigotry emenating from Wright's pulpit.

He's also contributed over $27,000 to the church in support of Reverand Wright's Black Liberation Theology.

Can you possibly imagine any conservative (never mind a presidential candidate) discovered to be in the same circumstance, for example, attending for 20 years an Aryan Nation Church, having a skinhead as his mentor, and contributing 27 grand to such a racist organization. He's be drummed out of existence by the MSM and the Dems faster than you can say Trent Lott.

But then neoliberals are hypocrites of the highest order. They don't lie, they "misspeak." They're not racist. They're trying to bring us together through hatred.

Rob
The Rev.Wright is an "Enigma", produced by America. The "Schizophrenic" black is a product of America also. Now, that these component parts have emerged and assembled. What shall "US" do?As a "Brit", I don't ask for indulgence but resolution. The church in Britain and most other Western Civilized countries, is a place for "INSANITY".Why the surprise.Trying to touch everyone, in any setting is a challenge.Ask any Comedian. No, Rev.Wright cannot be assigned the role of "SPOILER",his insanity was "Made in America".You know the definition of insanity?"Doing the Same Thing,Each Time, Expecting a Different Outcome"

"Killer" (Geraldine's Boy Friend?)
"If I were to tell you;that in 1937 ,Churchill,Roosevelt and Stalin met to create the "Anglo Empire".What would you say?"

I would say you ought to stop believing everything you read on the Internet. Oh, and stop getting your history from comic books.

Masser
Are these "very good friends" or yours racists and have you taken them on as your mentors for the last 20 years? Are they your moral and spiritual advisors?

Do you contribute thousands of dollars to them?

Do you have your children sit in on your conversations so they can be enlightened as to their racist and anti-American views?

Last of all, are you running for president of the United States?

If not, then your analogy is ridiculous.

All the indicators are there
If one looks at what Obama actually says, especially about what he'll do as President, and if you look at those with whom he has chosen to associate himself, it is very clear who Obama is and what he means to America.

Association with Farrakhan. Association with Wright. Socialist rhetoric. "Path to citizenship" and "creating new, green jobs" depending upon which audience he's speaking to. Bragging about opposing President Reagan. His total distortions about the war on terror (did I mention Farrakhan?) His speeches sounding more like sermons than political speech.

Obama is the exact *opposite* of what this country wants and needs. But the people, especially on the left, are to shallow and hedonistic to see past his rhetoric and hear what he's actually *saying*.

R10
I can Honestly say;I have never read a "Comic Book",in my LIFE!!!

killer writes:
R10
I can Honestly say;I have never read a "Comic Book",in my LIFE!!!

After reading your posts, I would say a slight modification of that statement is in order. It shouuld read, "I can Honestly say;I have never read a "Book",in my LIFE!!!

Masser: Don't judge a candidate by
what his supporters say. That is the worn out reply to valid concerns about Rev Wright's hateful speech. I agree that a candidate should not have to answer for the views of his supporters. But a candidate should have to answer for why he supports someone who's views are anti-American and racist. Rev Wright is not an Obama supporter...Obama has been a supporter of Rev Wright for as long as he has been a member of Trinity United Church of Christ.

Masser: I have friends and family that I cherish, but with whom I disagree on political and ethical issues. However, anyone who is a member of a church -- and many Catholics do not understand this because Parishes do not tend to have formal memberships -- knows that no one sits in the pews for 20 years if they disagree with the pastor. They either work to remove the pastor, or they leave the church. Obama has been a Jeremiah Wright supporter for 20 years. That speaks of who he is. Quitting the church now would simply be a political expedient. It doesn't change the nature of the man...nothing can.

On a different note...I am tired of liberals telling me when the discussion is over. Hillary told us that her "mis-speak" was a minor blip, nothing more, end of story. On another post, someone told us that the science is in...Homosexuality is a natural state, not a choice...the discussion is over. Elsewhere we are told that the debate is over on global warming. Here we are told that this is not an issue anymore...no one cares. But it is an issue. The color of a candidate's skin will never influence the way I vote. But I will never vote for a candidate who has a hidden agenda of payback.

Andrew the "Sedition Act of 1812"was an attempt,to quiet French citizens, residing in America.Unless we are PERFECT,we deserve to be criticized.Never make Perfect the enemy of Good.We do it, when we seek to have neither...

He could never say this!!!!
I am reading the comments from people and you guys are living in fantasy land. He cant say half of this stuff. Here are my reasons.

1. He will lose every black vote in america with the exception of those conservative blacks, who probably wouldn't vote for him anyway.

2. This doesn't sound like anything he would say. This is written in an non african american view that shows favor towards whites. Although I do believe some of this writer says. I.E blacks taking responsibilty about black on black crime and looking for hand outs. But lets be honest blacks schools aren't half as good as whites.

3. Thirdly he can't say this because, how can a man disown someone he has known for so long for such crazy, ludicrious statements. Surely America did not invent AIDS, But for blacks its not far fetched because of what America did to there blacks with the testing of penicillin. For those who don't know read about the Tuskagee experiment. But how can conservative embrace Christianity and with everything God says like " hate the sin but love the sinner". It shows contradiction on the part christian America.

It for these reasons who can't say this. I applaud Obama for his speech and like others,I wanted to hear a little more. But My question is why does all of America Consider Barack Obama black. by All means he is more white than black. He was raised in a white background, by white parents. Also I dont understand why people attack his character so much based on other peoples statements. They say through the mouth the heart talks. But can anyone name a specific time he has said anything anti-american, anti-white? You cant! So we say because people around him make such ludicrious statements that its Obama who believes these things. If this applied to everybody what would people say about you?

Nothing Needed; Nothing Could Help
Obama's relationship with his Pastor and Mentor was ingrained in Obama's brain and locked in mutual admiration by both men. Obama the Senator was the most influential man in the church, Wright the pastor reveled in his power of the pulpit. Both were apparently happy in their station with and within the congregation. Sixteen to 20 years (you hear both) of mutual electrolysis has enabled both men to accrue the impurities of the other--their views are indistinguishable. Any defensive utterances now are excuses and none of those are acceptable. Silence leaves doubt of thought, speaking allows the worst truths to escape from the mouth. Obama's error was the flood of contradictions experienced by the listeners during his verbal game of "dodge ball" which some dubbed a speech.

Goodbye, Obama
Obama's presidential campaign ended with his speech on Wright and race. If Obama gets the Democratic nomination, he will lose to McCain, and if he does not get the nomination, Hillary will lose to McCain. As TH readers make clear, most Americans do not truly believe that there are any significant racial problems in the US except for the attitudes and behavior of many blacks. Most Americans emphatically do not want any sort of ongoing 'conversation' on race. For these Americans, racism was, perhaps, a problem a half century ago, but is not a problem today.

I can't imagine why Obama thought he was gaining anything, much less helping his campaign, by making his speech. Now he has brought race into the election much more openly, and to his disadvantage, than I would have thought possible.

What accounts for Obama's kamikaze action? I think he has been persuaded by his own speechmaking; he thinks his word magic can solve any problem. This arrogance will cost him the presidency.

What he should have done was to hunker down for a couple of news cycles, speaking to the issue only to the extent that he severed all links between his campaign and Wright. He would not have needed to make a speech like that put in his mouth by Hanson. Instead, Obama has touched off the same sort of firestorm that John Kerry unleashed in 2004 by bringing his Vietnam service into the race. At times it seemed to me that Kerry was actually feeding the Swiftboaters fresh material regularly, in an act of political suicide. Now Obama has done this. In doing so, he has driven me, a lifelong liberal Democrat, away, because I have doubts about his ability to govern this country.

Warrior
One too many wars?Their views are "Indistinguishable".Views this identical, should have results that are categorical. Is Rev.Wright, now running for President? One of your commanders, may have to answer this, for you!!!Good Luck...

I wonder
has Obama ever said the words, "God bless America?" I know he keeps his hands down at the pledge and doesn't look at the flag. And he wants to be my president? In the words of the immortal Seinfeld when viewing George with pants around his ankles while laying in the floor, "And you wanted to be my latex salesman!" As I recall that was a failed lie as well.

McCain the Lucky Man
There is no reason to believe Obama could govern the country. He has no real record on which to judge his abilities. Both he and HRC have razor-thin resumes. HRC tells a bunch of tall tales to bolster her lack of demonstrable accomplishment.

Obama masks his lack with mesmerizing speech-making abilities. Neither has ever had the buck stop with them in any significant way.

There is no evidence that either of these candidates can govern anything. Since neither have real records of genuine accomplishment to act as a counter-balance, Hill's tall tales and Barack's Wright association take on huge significance in the minds of the voters.

In the mind of the average, Joe Sixpack voter, Hill comes off as a liar and Obama goes to a church where they shout: God damn America.

Obama's speech did nothing to convince the Average Joe, who will determine the outcome of the election.

Am I to understand you are being snide about my service to this country. Surely you are not stupid enough to nitpick my words or thoughts. Entering into verbal combat with you would be like wiping sweat off my brow and the end product would be just as worthless.

I was "HOPING", to discover a greater sense of logic, in your post.I failed!Mr.Obama goes home to a Senate seat, and a loving wife and family.America is the patient Doctor.I know, your Nurse is out today, and the office is out of control. The patient has the following illnesses;A weak economy,a war without cause or ending,a leadership vacuum larger than two lifetimes, and the truth being permanently lost.McCain is a aspirin, which may not last till morning.Do you have anything STRONGER???

He can't make that speech
He needs every vote from Farrakhan and Wright-type supporters. If he were to give the suggested speech, he'd be done. No way he gets the overwhelming numbers of black votes if he tells the 50% of Blacks that blame whites for AIDS and all their other troubles to, in effect, look in a mirror.

It's just easier--and smarter-to pander to black victimhood.

Great job
Mr. Hansen, great speech but for the wrong guy. A great statesman would be able to say this and even think along those lines. But not Obama. His hands are tied since the moment he has chosen his life style, his wife and his pastor.

His black audience likes him precisely for his association with hate mongers because black population listens to and follows their so-called leaders for generations. As long as Obama is the favorite nephew of Rev. Wright, he is one of them.

So for Obama to say anything even close to your suggested speech is equal to a political suicide. His policy of survival is and must be a balancing on a tight rope between "black rage" and white and other Americans sense of justice.

These are the roots of his problems and ours.

You want respect for your service.I thought, that they had paid you for that...Don't wait!

wow, ya'll act like Rev. Wright was the only person Obama listened to in his entire life.
He's had alot of influences (try reading one of his books) and I personally want a President who can listen to all view points.
Now if you can find actual instances of Obama being "racist" or Anit American you might be on to something

I'm sure Obama listened to a lot of people...but no one goes to a church for 20 years, and brings along their family to listen to a Pastor they disagree with. NO ONE.

Can we find an actual instance of Obama being racist? If I donated $27K to the KKK, would that make me racist?

Did he say anything racist? Apart from "Hope" and "Change!" I don't think Obama has said much of anything.

to killer
I feel your pain. And the cure may not be McCain. (No poem intended). I wasn't striving to be logical. There isn't much logic in this election. I was just pointing out McCain is one lucky dude at this point.

I won't argue with your diagnosis although I "hope" the patient isn't terminal just quite yet. Hope is generally prescribed only when you don't know what else to do.

But if I had a serious disease, I want more than hope. I want a smart, well-trained doc with a history of success, not a hopeful wannabee.

I have two problems with HRC/BHO. First, they are applying for arguably the most demanding position in the world with virtually no experience in leading a successful enterprise. I would not leave them in charge of my business for half a day.

Second, while the patient might be suffering, he could be made worse by unskilled doctoring. The first commandment to a doctor is "Do no harm." I feel that the policies that both Dems want to institute will do harm.

Raising taxes will not cure the economy. Pulling out of Iraq right now will diminish our prestige in the world. Clueless tinkering with the housing crisis could cause a domino of unintended consequences. Messing with health care could make it worse if we're not careful.

In general, government is dysfunctional because there is no accountability. In the free market, the buyer has leverage. Government morphs into a malignant tumor because there is nothing to check its growth.

Both Dems promise big government cures, but big government is the cancer. My guy was Mitt, who at least has a life-long record of successful accomplishment, understands how the economy works and how dangerous government can be with clueless people at the helm.

We have what we have. In my own opinion, a McCain aspirin sounds better than Dr. Kevorkian without a medical license.

The Sedition Acts, where a host of acts all having the same purpose.Since none of the alien citizens, French and British had declared war the federalist felt them to be of little consequence.Keeping trying, but you will need to read MORE.

killer writes:
There was but one Sedition Act in 1812, and it was passed in 1798, and was indeed aimed at the French who moved to the US. It was to prevent them from moving into the Democratic-Republican Party, which was pro-French in outlook. Additionally, the Federalists passed the Alien Enemies Act to deport potential "saboteurs", and the Alien Act which limited immigration, and extended the time required to apply for citizenship from 5 to 14 years.

BTW, what is your background in History?

yes Obama should have backed away from the church and denouced it. But unfortunetly he has not. Check out his speech on economic policy where he denounces John McCain's policies. He is no longer running a respectable campaign. unbelieveable!

Victor Davis Hanson
Lordy, haven't you better things to do? Like re-write Thucydides again and again and again?
I didn't realize you had the time to write about contemporaries, especially ones who might do something about the massive problems thinkers like you and that foolhardy family the Kagans got us into.

A war like no other? John Lynne puts your incredible arrogance to rest so why don't you just leave the field.

McCain's a dolt. What do you really know about his POW "service?" That he gave up everything as soon as he was captured? He admitted it. How many of my fellow soldiers and Marines died because of that blabbermouthed, son of privilege. Oh, but I forget my place, as one who was not privileged but who had to serve 15 months on the ground, I shouldn't question my betters' actions. After all, those like Hanson and McCain, know that it is the thetes and proles who really fight the wars, whether on a grain field in Greece or a rice paddy in Vietnam.

I find it rather strange that self-proclaimed "intellectuals" like yourself can embrace the stubborn stupidity of the likes of Bush I, Bush II, McCain, Romney or even Strauss.
Please leave us alone. You've done nothing but hurt our country.

Don't worry, folks.
I'm sure some day the U.S. will elect a white Christian man as president. Until then you'll just have to be patient and suffer all this oppression and discrimination you've had to put up with under the first 43.

Why is Barack Obama running for Pres?

He claims that he is uniquely qualified to “bring our country together” and that despite his lack of experience and relative youth, he has demonstrated superior “judgment”.
Obama has now acknowledged Reverend Jeremiah Wright, used incendiary language that widened the racial divide. Obama says of (his) fellow congregants that (their) anger is real; it is powerful; and that not understanding its roots, serves to widen the chasm between the races.
If Obama is really the Reconciler and Chief, why didn’t he change the hearts of Rev. Wright and his flock over the past 20 years? Everyone is asking what influence the good Reverend had on the candidate, but shouldn’t we be wondering why the very people Obama knew best; still hate America, the White Man and Israel?
With regard to the issue of judgment; Obama demeans President Bush, John McCain and the Clintons claiming that they didn’t know what was going on inside Saddam’s closed police state, (10,000 miles away) meanwhile he didn’t know what was happening in the pew right next to him.
I think that pretty well puts the qualifications issue to rest.

Typical Black Person
Ooooh, did that shock you? Is Shells a racist? How could she say something like that on TH without be coined a hater, a bigot and booted from the forum?

What did she mean by Typical Black Person?

How many negative conotations did she mean, because when you say Typical Black Person, is she saying that Obama is a criminal, a hater of white people, lazy, stupid? Just what did Shells mean by saying that? Is she racist?

Hmmm....On the other hand, what did Obama mean when he said his grandma was a Typical White Person?

That typically all white people are racist?
That typically all white people fear blacks?
That typically all white people bring the black man down?
That typically all white people are rich, evil and can't be trusted?

Obama isn't a racist? Please, he has the rub of racism all over him, thanks to marinating in Wright foul puke for 20 years.

That speech is too good for Obama, because it would never come from his heart. Because what did we learn, boys and girls? When Obama doesn't have a flowery speech made out for him, off the cuff, he uses terminology of "Typical White Person."

In my lifetime, never have I used the term, "Typical (insert race here) Person" about anyone. Why? Because I was never raised to be a racist, nor am I one. I know better than to utter something as stupid as Barak did.

Libs....we only scratched the surface of your messiah and out popped Rezko and Wright. We're not finished yet.

@ Shells
"Please, he has the rub of racism all over him, thanks to marinating in Wright foul puke for 20 years."

Yeah, all that intolerable stuff about God and Jesus and the Bible. Disgusting! How could any decent person sit through that?

SomeNYguy
So, you are one of the Obama Pod People, welcome and how do you do?

If the gentle Pastor Wright were only preaching about God, Jesus and the Bible--none of us would have heard of this man nor his existence.

Instead of God, I heard God Damn America, many times in fact.

When he spoke of Jesus, it was to tell us that Jesus was a poor black man living in a rich white community controlled by rich white people. The Romans were I-Talians, who come from Europe, therefore those "garlic noses" are white too, and rich and killed Black Jesus.

I didn't here anything about the Bible, just that Hillary was never called a n*gger and never had trouble getting a cab and she doesn't know what it's like to be a poor black man (but neither does Obama), and some other stuff about Conda-skeeeza Rice and such.

Such a Holy Man! I really feel his divinity.

But then again, what do I know? I'm just a Typical White Person.

to destinybender

I think that pretty well puts the qualifications issue to rest."

Obama wants to be our male nanny, but he sees no problem perpetuating hateful ignorance by poisoning his beautiful young daughters with Wright's rantings. Meanwhile, female nanny Hillary claimed she was perfectly willing to take her own daughter into a warzone where the poor girl was forced to dodge bullets--just so mummy could get a photo-op with the troops?

If Hill's story were true, she would look even worse than a liar. Does bad mother come to mind?

How nutz that either of these two could be serious contenders for POTUS.

Obama’s shallowness not only spiritual

Obama’s spiritual views not his only shallow viewsThank you, Mr. Hanson, for this terrific could-have-been speech. As excellent as it was, it would still not garner my vote for Barack Obama. The fact that he remained in Rev. Wright’s church is indicative of his shallow judgment and inability to act. One year in that church might be understandable. Twenty years is too long a time. Obama’s inaction also tells me his priorities.

Mr. Obama did not tell the truth about his presence in any of Rev. Wright’s vitriolic sermons. He initially claimed he had no knowledge of the sermons. Then a week or so later he acknowledged he did in his race speech in which he attempted to focus on race problems rather than apologize for his complicity in race-dividing vitriol. Last week Charles Krauthammer and Jane Chastain and one other pundit were some of the few columnists around even alluding to this in critiquing Obama’s race speech.

Obama’s shallowness not only spiritual

Looks like the other pundit is Thomas Sowell in his 3/19/08 article.

Here’s one from the liberal media that it was a year rather than a week as I claimed in my earlier post before Barack Obama acknowledged he knew about Rev. Wright’s sermons: Brian Ross, ABC News, in his 3/19/08 column. Brian Ross and his crew have been addressing well many concerns about the Obama campaign.

“Buried in his eloquent, highly praised speech on America's racial divide, Sen. Barack Obama contradicted more than a year of denials and spin from him and his staff about his knowledge of Rev. Jeremiah Wright's controversial sermons.”

To have made the sort of speech Dr. Hanson so very charitably suggests, the guy inside that empty suit would've had to have been Bill Cosby.

Not Barack Hussein "Mocha Marvin the Mulatto Miracle" Obama.

That mulatto comment is rude.

Are you sure you're British and not a product of Chicago's wonderful school system? Your posts look and sound like they could be written by one of our high school seniors. And they make about as much sense.

Maybe BHO will do something about education when he's president because he surely has not done anything as a state senator or as a US senator. But he certainly has protected the citizens of Illinois from those racist cops who dare stop people of color when they blow red lights and go over the speed limit.

As for Reverend Wright and those "three short clips,"those were not anomalies if they were being sold and readily available at the church. No matter how you stretch it, they had an effect on the people who attend the church. Just listen to Michelle Obama.

To excuse Wright's opinions as resulting from his experiences early in his life (and I am of his generation) is hogwash. And my question to anybody else over 65 is this: think back 50 years; the black community is certainly freer now, why isn't it as safe? And why aren't we having a discussion about that? Or the divide between upper class blacks and the rest of the community?

Oh, I forgot. It's more acceptable to keep blaming your troubles on "those white people."

To SJ and Vttrium
Vttrium is right. SJ, your comment was rude. I understand being uncontrollably tempted by alliteration, but you should have resisted.

A Brilliant Post
Thank you for showing the fawning Obama supporters what a speech based on principle and character would have looked like. They probably won’t see another one for a very long time.

Saturday Night Live
This reminds me of the routine Steve Martin used to do on SNL. In the middle of doing something amazingly stupid he would look up, consider doing the right thing and then say, "Nah!". Obama just didnt have it in him. No leftist does. They are strangers to the truth.

a Speech Obama Could Have Given
I'm sorry that politicians only say the things
that they think will get our votes...and that
it has been discussed so often recently, what
Obama should have said....but we, the voting
public, want to hear what Mr. Obama stands for,
what he believes...we want the TRUTH!, not
more lies that could get him into the highest
office in our country.

Yttrium and K.G. - Rude?

To observe that Barack Hussein is a mulatto?

We have here a freshman Senator representing the incomparably corrupt Democrat fiefdom of Cook County.

This individual is running for the presidency of these United States with *NO* remarkable qualification other than his negritude.

Such as it is. Genetically speaking, he's precisely as Caucasian as he is Black.

Culturally, he's whiter than cottage cheese.

His campaign slogan should be: "I'm not Black; I just play one on TV."

So how is it rude to observe openly and without equivocation that this hypocritical socialist mamzer is a mulatto hypocritical socialist mamzer?

-----------
A reporter was questioning Dumas about his ancestry. "Is it true that you are a quadroon?" he asked. Dumas replied that it was.

"So your father was a mulatto?"

"Yes."

"And your grandfather was a negro?"

"Yes."

Incautiously, the reporter persisted: "And your great-grandfather was --?"

"A baboon, sir," roared Dumas, his patience exhausted. "A baboon! Which means that my family begins where yours ends."

Racism in America
Is apparently only a problem when practiced by blacks. At least that's what I get from most of the comments here. If it wasn't for all those horrible black racists, there would be equality ponies for all!!!

Funny thing though...after all these years of conservatives agitating for religion in politics and vice versa, it seems to be a problem when practiced in black churches or by black ministers.

And let's not even go into how eager you are to tar a man with someone else's words. Unless you're ready to admit that David Duke speaks for all white people who have ever heard him say anything.
