Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

Way back in June, Sen. Barack "middle name not permitted to be mentioned" Obama campaigned on the theme of "Change We Can Believe In." Now, several days later, his theme should be "Change We Can't Keep Up With." Apparently, the change he was calling for was not for Washington politics, but for his primary campaign positions. Abortion, gun control, capital punishment, FISA laws, the status of Jerusalem, faith-based federal programs, public financing of his campaign, welfare, NAFTA and free trade, and his commitment to the Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his Trinity Church all have fallen to reconsideration, rephrasing, changed rhetorical modulation, and other semantic miracles.

His Iraq position is currently in the process of glissading from anti to pro, so we will have to wait for a while before saying he actually has changed it. To be precise, to stay in my dance metaphor, Obama's move may not be a glissade so much as a fouétte. Centralhome.com's "Dance Dictionary" defines a fouétte as "a turning step, usually done in a series, in which the working leg whips out to the side in and then into the knee as the dancer turns on the supporting leg, rising onto the point at each revolution." I like to be precise in describing Sen. Obama because, while informal, he is a stickler when it comes to such matters.

As a conservative, of course, I like all his changed views except for the fact that he doesn't believe his current iteration of principle any more than he believed his previous iteration. Which brings us, as it always does in such circumstances, to America's greatest fraud sniffer, H.L. Mencken. He defined a demagogue as "one who preaches doctrines he knows to be untrue to men he knows to be idiots." It is not surprising that the youth is particularly enchanted by the senator from Illinois. Being young, they are inexperienced in the ways of the world.

I offer to our youth the cautionary tale of Ludwig van Beethoven when he was in his early 30s. He originally called his "Eroica" symphony the "Bonaparte" symphony as a tribute to Napoleon Bonaparte, then the heroic French consul who had begun to reform Europe radically after gaining military victories over various monarchically ruled countries. But Beethoven became disillusioned when, in 1804, Napoleon crowned himself emperor. Beethoven then renamed the symphony the "Eroica" because he refused to dedicate one of his great compositions to the man he now considered a "tyrant."

Like the young Beethoven, today's youth has not seen a truly gifted demagogue perform at the national level. Those of us who have kicked around for a while have seen such things and are not so easily impressed. We know that a demagogue need not have a black mustache or other outward signs of malevolence. He might even be tall, smartly tailored, and imperially slim, with a winning ironic way about him.

The art of being a demagogue is to appear to be an idealist. From Napoleon to even George Wallace, demagogues rise to vast popularity with the image of crusading idealists.

Napoleon rose to almost universal admiration as a champion of enlightenment principles. That is what gained him the early support of Beethoven and so many other liberal, educated youths of his time.

George Wallace's bizarre political history was that initially he was not anti-black, but he lost an election with those values. So he decided never to be seen as tolerant again. Thus, he rose to fame as an anti-black demagogue -- returning to his old tolerance only at the end of his career when tolerance was, once again, a vote-getter. But for his electorate in his time, being anti-black was the idealistic, uncompromising vision (not buckling under to Washington pointy-headed liberals).

So the art of being a demagogue is not limited to any particular issue set. It can be enlightenment reform, anti-black bigotry or anything in between. Each in its moment appealed to the youth of its time as idealistic.

Rather, the telltale trait of a demagogue is his irrationally dilated ego. Thus, the demagogue eventually, inevitably, sheds his proclaimed ideals for his personal advancement. The genuine hero is prepared to shed his personal advancement for his ideals. Sen. John McCain, for example, stuck with his support of the Iraq war even when we were losing, even if it cost him the election. How quaint. Just like an old man to stand by his principles.

So Napoleon, who condemned the ancient regime for its tyranny, eventually shed his republican principles for his own tyranny.

Of course, most American demagogues are not so expansive in their often-evil entreaties as the foregoing. Americans, being a practical people, are not susceptible to extreme ideas. So most American demagogues simply offer up whatever predilection is current.

Currently, young Americans are in a cynically practical mood stylistically and a greenish, liberal mood substantively. So Obama's constant policy adjustments tend to be admired for their alleged deftness rather than condemned for their obvious cynicism, while his liberal primary positions are presumed to be sincere -- the shifts being carried out just to trick the foolish old people who wouldn't vote for such an obvious liberal.

I leave America's voting-age children with this advice from an old poker player: When you are invited to a new poker game and look around the table for the pigeon but can't spot him, you're the pigeon.

It's all about passing out the freebies
That's what demagogues do. When my Brother and I listened to one of his speeches, we kept laughing every time he said "change." I never laughed at Hillary - she sounded like a credible candidate.

The problem is that there are no decent Republican film makers to do a satire on this guy. Well there's probably a few.

Good read.

OBAMA'S SUMMER OF LOVE
The AMERICAN PEOPLE have seen enough of OBAMA already...they will not be fooled by a preening, effeminate poseur and snake oil salesman!!
The OBAMA EXPRESS runs on emotion and hysteria, and will run out of gas long before Election Day!...no amount of"smoke and mirrors" stage management will save this shallow, unqualified, two dimensonial cardboard cutout!!....OBAMAMANIA is a plague of the mind...THIS TOO,SHALL PASS!!!
This "SUMMER OF LOVE " for OBAMA,will be "MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING"

Barack Hussein Obama
"Sen. Barack "middle name not permitted to be mentioned" Obama"

I have no problem with writing Senator Barack Hussein Obama's full name, but if you did not know that Senator John McCain's middle name is Sidney, then you have to ask yourself what's up with the whole "middle name calling" one often finds at TH from the likes of Ms Coulter and now Tony Blankley.

Emphasizing the "Hussein" part is clearly an attempt to appeal to the bigoted nature of the American populace. And the real question you should ask: Is that how you want to get your people elected? I ask the same thing of people on the left who appeal to anti-Christian code words to augment their support. Two sides of the same coin.

But, hey, Senator Obama's full name will appear on the ballot box, so I find nothing wrong with mentioning the Hussein part so folks will become inured to its seeming "Muslim-ness" and its apparent link to Saddam Hussein. But when Ms Coulter and her ilk refer to the presumptive Democratic nominee as "B. Hussein Obama," don't kid yourself: it's a contemptible appeal to baser instincts such as bigotry and nothing more.

Do ya think...
that maybe Hillary hung on so long because she knew Obama would eventually self-destruct? If he did so sooner, she'd be the nominee. The benefit to the PARTY is that her hanging in there kept him at bay for a while longer. He has plenty of time to do himself in as does John McCain.

Glissade, fouétte?

I'm thinking more Tarantella.

You know the dance staged in a circle, turning quickly one way till the music changes, causing the circle to whirl in the opposing direction.

Quite heady. Till the whirl and swirl becomes willful swill.

Coral Browne is reputed to have told Guy Burgess "you pissed in our soup and we drank it." Is this election leading the voter to drink the soup of one who appears as cagey as a many faced tinker or tailor?

It's not who they become with power and its rarefied air. It's who they are when the soup is boiling and the crowd is dancing.

Beware the herd and St. Vitus.

Great Article
Obama's brazen demagoguery is a reflection of his apparent faith in the mainstream media to give him a pass on whatever positions he takes, as it has done thus far. Properly crafted TV and radio ads could easily deflate him through juxtaposing his inconsistent statements, and I hope this will be forthcoming from McCain and/or 527s. It's frightening to see how deeply flawed and unprincipled this candidate is, especially when one considers how innocuous Jimmy Carter appeared at this point in his campaign. Obama would be Carter on steroids -- better make that arugula.

Psuedo Refinement is your speciality.
Tony, Glissade? French for Slide eh. Please "My Friend". So you have engendered your repartee of fancy words and references to suggest Sen. Obama has changed positions.

Well a few weeks ago you were trying to dump him in the "Radical Liberal Box". Well now that he has sided with the FISA compromise, he is not so radical and liberal as that "whacko liberal" Russ 'Protect our Liberty" Feingold. And Faith Based Initiatives, what he's not a Muslim?.

You have the some pretentiousness to suggest Napolean Bonaparte, an emperor as your free association to the young Sen. Obama. Did you just wake up from a coma or is Saint George off limits in your feeble word associations.

To go down this road of flip/flop is not going to work Tony. Number #1 Reason, your candidate John Sydney McCain. Oh and his #2 Mittens is not much better.

The road to the White House is slick and treacherous. Sometimes it best to slide out of danger.

Obama 08

"Do the Loco-Motion!"
Little Eva had Obama's dance moves pegged way back when... the preeminent one-hit wonder! Ought to make a great campaign anthem.
I hear she's still driving a '62 Cadillac. I wonder if she tossed her grandmother under it.

McCain needs to sign up Blankley as Chief Speech Writer!

I hear that train a comin'
The more McCain attempts to do The Twist, we better get ready for return of the Mittmonster!

Missing an opportunity
Now we know why Tony makes the big bucks in RW world. Anyone can come up with Obama as Marxist, lefty, hard left, ultra-liberal, socialist, closet Muslim, and (parental advisory please) C@mmun¤ty act@vist. But the fear of Bonapartism -- man, you should be charging for this priceless slapstick opinionating!

Only in America.....
can a kid who was editor of the school newspaper and organized a few block parties think that qualifies him to be president.

Electing Obama president would be like giving a kid with a learner's permit a Formula One pole position.

Definition of "Demagogue":
According to Illustrated Oxford Dictionary, copyright 1998, demagogue is defined as "a political agitator appealing to the basest instincts of a mob".

Webster's new Collegiate Dictionary, published in 1961, defines demagogue as "a popular leader or orator...a speaker who seeks to make capital from social discontent and gain political influence".

In the ensuing almost forty years, the definition of demagogue has taken on a decidedly negative connotation.

Perhaps Obama embodies Webster's definition, but certainly not Oxford Illustrated's.

Most political candidates are demagogues, given the Webster definition.

Predictions of huge turnouts of youthful voters on election day in the past have seldom materialized.

Remember Michael Moore's exhortations to get his "Slacker Rebellion" of youthful voters to go to the polls and defeat G.W. Bush?

They didn't show up. They could not, or would not, wrest themselves free from the funk of their slack, not exerting the time or energy to even go to the polls.

Will this time be different?

I have my doubts.

Blankley's point that demagaogues usually appeal to our idealism is not invalidated by the Oxford definition of the term(appealing to basest instincts of the mob).

I am not expert on Hitler, but didn't Hitler base alot of his appeal on the romanticism and idealism of the great Germanic race, which would be unleashed to reassert its rightful place in destiny once it wrested itself free from the Jews, communists, and traitors who signed Versailles treaty on WW1?

If Blankley is saying Obama is a demagogue, I think he is using the definition in Webster, not the Oxford one(and the one that could apply to alot of politicians in America today).

PT
PT says: "Electing Obama president would be like giving a kid with a learner's permit a Formula One pole position."

Never mind a pole position (that he would have to earn). Just giving a kid with a learner's permit a Formula One car - even one of the also-rans - would be a hoot to watch.

Unfortunately, watching Obama's on-the-job-training will be no so funny to watch.

Too Bad !

I do not like the thought of Hillary, John or Barak in the White House.

Of the three I believe Hillary would do the least damage to our Once Great Country.

John will do much more damage to our economy, but try to win against our enemies.

Barak, IMHO, will totally destroy us, and find a way to stay in office for the rest of his life.

I hear a lot of talk about 'The End Times', and I honestly believe there is a lot to say for that train of thought.

Rats
(and mice)

"...a truly gifted demagogue ...."
" .... a truly gifted demagogue ...." Great accurate analysis! Can I use it to refer to Obama, the Dumbocrats, and most other politicians? Thanks!

What change ?

What do Barack Obama, the legislative morass in Springfield, and a constitutional convention have in common? A lot, according to United Power for Action and Justice, a Chicago-based social action network of 300 religious, labor and civic organizations.

United Power’s Gregory Pierce fired off a letter to Sen. Obama Tuesday. The first paragraph says it all:

“Our nonpartisan organization . . . was surprised to learn that David Axelrod’s public relations firm has negotiated a contract of at least $2 million to lead a campaign against the state’s best chance for change in 20 years — the upcoming referendum on whether or not the citizens of Illinois should call a constitutional convention to deal with the mess in Springfield. While your campaign manager is heading a presidential effort whose slogan is “Change you can believe in,” his firm is running a local campaign whose slogan should read, “Change we must fear and undermine.”

After 143 days in the Senate
Obama determined he was ready for the highest office in the nation.

I have already read an article about his work as a community organizer and how his couple of successes were probably very important to the handful of people effected by his actions, but are truly insignificant as training and experience for the presidency. Only in America and only in a country where college students imbued with lightweight subjects and rhetoric on diversity, alternate life styles, global warming hysteria etc. think they too know how to pick a president.

the intellectual dogggg, not
here is the self hater from nyc, the wannabe black who thinks his upper middle class family qualifies him not only to speak of the black experience he has led others to think he has lived through but to also speak as a spokesperson for christians.

Doggg, intellectual understanding and you are polar opposites. But it remains beyond your capacity to parrot anything other than the daily talking points given to you by your masters at moveon and kos. I wonder if you are amongst the paid trolls they send out or do you post your idiocy for free.

Wow Arnold..
So you just decide to attack this guy instead of take another look at your initial supposition.

Ratas Y Ratones
I was interested in you supposition that McCain would do more damage to our economy. What has he proposed that would be worse than the Democrat nominee?

I am not being critical of your post,as I really enjoy them, especially to mrc mrc. I just am afraid I missed something in their proposals.

middle names
The use of middle names was started by Hilary Rodham Clinton to seperate herself from old Bill

buddhabman

None are so blind as those who refuse to see.

buddhabman

Oh, that was a Matthew Henry quote. I don't want to be accused of stealing others' work.

Mdoggg
Obama is a walking verbal gaffe. His latest regarding making our children speak Spanish rather than demand that immigrants speak English is stupidest yet. When he doesn't have his handlers working him, he can't make an intelligent statement. I hope he keeps on talking because these statements are going to be the lead on 527 group commercials.

jax33

I was actually looking forward to Hillary becoming President. Immediately afterward she would have made sure that she was President Rodham.

Now We know who Oboma really ( IS )
Now We know who Oboma really ( IS )
This is the most important deep study and well researched material on Oboma's past life I have seen to date .It tells who's ,their ACTIVIST Marxist Politics in Hawaii , where's , times and places and his works in his books page by page and in his own thoughts and words .
His though to be Typical White GRAND MOTHER is not at all ..believe me !!!!!!!
This blows the cover off Oboma's past life and whys he says what he says and deeply believes what he believes in his Activism politics .
Well brain washed by Black MARXIST in Hawaii long before he moved to Chicago life of Activism with the poor .

Rev Wright is only a small piece of the former Oboma larger puzzle .
I now understand completely . He has the same kind of friends he had in Hawaii ... Exactly ...... All anti American .
Oboma is far more Freighting than Al Quada, Iran or Hesballah .
I can't but help believe the media new this Truth on him as well .
Since it was no secret finally told by Andrew Walden knowing if it was a lie he would be sued right down to his last penny .
I would vote fore Anybody other than Oboma now .

Found on The American Thinker .com
What Barack Obama learned from the Communist Party
By Andrew Walden

Middle Name cannot be mentioned??
What's up with this? Could it be Obama is ashamed of his middle name?

You best wake up America!! It can get worse....

b hussein
the campaign can continue but only under the b hussein rules.

1. If my middle name is used, that is racist
2. If your question my resume, that is racist
3. If you question my wife and her statements, that is racist
4. If you talk about my former associates, that is racist
5. If you question my tax and spend plans, that is racist
6. If you question my lack of wearing a falg pin, that is racist
7. In fact if you discuss anything about me or my campaign, that is racist.

I am in charge of the campaign and I will decide what can be talked about and what can't be talked about. Under the b hussein campaign rules only b hussein can determine what questions he will be asked and that is only after the msms first clears them with b hussein

b hussein and mdoggg
what a world. These two are geniuses and the rest of the world are morons.

I wonder which cabinet post mdoggg will recieve in the b hussein administration. It seems these two are on the same page on every issue and agree on every policy.

It seems that all who visit here are not worthy to discuss the isssues as only b hussein and his fellow traveler and co-genius already know what is best for america and all it's citizens

change misunderstood
you conservatives dont seem to be getting it when it comes to what obama is talking about when he talks about change. perhaps that is one of the reasons he is ahead in the polls obama decided early on that it wasnt terribly important to get real specific about what he was going to change. The last 8 years have been such an unmitigated disaster
that just promising chage itself would be enough. an so thats what you are getting. anything would be better then what we have been getting. now you undrstand?
its a change from what hasbeen done up until now.

OBAMA
MANCHURIAN CANDIDATE

need more candidates
if there were 300,000,000 of us running for president you people would find a way to hate all of them even if they all had a different platform. what do you think of yourself? whtever it is it must be tough living with a black cloud hangind over your head all the time. what sourpusses. relax. the country will survuve if obama is elected, and might even do so ,if Barr
or mccain or the other guys are. we have built in safeguards in the constitution that prevent any one man from doing too much damage . you all sound as though no matter who is elected it is the coming of satan and doomsday. just lay back relax and enjoy the inevitable.

relax
actually if you take a couple of deep breaths clear your mind as much as possible, and then calmly read all the threads at once the whole thing becomes a little laughable and silly . i am not excluding the columnists.

.

Changling Obama
Since Obama is now changing his loony left stripes for moderate plaids, his position on any particular issue is unknowable. In his case, the best we can do is look to the influences that have shaped his worldview. For that we must look at Jeremiah's Wright's Temple of Hate (sometimes called Trinity United Church of Christ), which practices the "faith" that Obama says is so important in his life.

The Temple teaches Black Liberation Theology, which is overtly anti-America, anti-capitalism and anti-white. It must be taken as a given that Obama shares those core beliefs. To assume that Obama himself doesn't subscribe to his church's teachings, after he openly professes how central those church's teachings have been in his life, would be folly.

The lesson here is that no matter what Obama may say today, his glib shifting from one contradictory position to another reveals a man who is not to be trusted. At heart, he is a disciple of Jeremiah Wright's brand of Black Liberation Theology, and would likely make hard decisions that promote that hateful anti-American ideology.

In Alaska,
A glissade is a spring rock fall. As the snow melts from the south facing slopes, the rocks that were fractured by winter's ice fall down the slope to form a little "rock" glacier mixed with snow.

Alaskan hikers use these inherently unstable structures as express escalators to get down steep hillsides. We call it "glissading." It can be a lot of fun for the experienced. The thing is, if you hit one not knowing what you've just stepped on, you'll be lucky to get to the bottom alive, let alone in one piece.

I don't know about Obama being a demogogue, but the glissading analogy works for me. He is inherently unstable, as evidenced by his less-than-successful attempt to appear mainstream.

Post-modern Pres candidate
Most young people today, raised with a post-modern mindset, really see no problem with a presidential candidate who changes his stance once he becomes the defacto nominee of his party. Post-mods are very comfortable with not standing for anything definitive. In fact, they see it as a sign of intelligence and, yeah, tolerance. Back when I was a young voter, my liberal friends in college hated if a candidate drifted right. They noticed when there was waffling. I suspect many of those were the ones who voted against John Kerry and Al Gore. Now, well, I'm afraid that a lot of young people really prefer waffling over a definite stance. They think it shows flexibility when in fact it shows untrustworthiness. They really can't see that though.

Re: mr typin mittens...

Re: mrcmrc. Rants? Rants you say? In the beginning I believed he might just be an ignorant first time poster who needed a gentle nudging in order to present a coherent post.

I mentioned 'Spell Checker'. I am sure he went to Wal Mart - the games section, and looked for a game called 'Spell Checker'.

I mentioned the 'Space Bar' at the bottom of his keyboard. I am sure he spent the next sevearl hours, prowling the streets of 'minny soda', looking for this cule 'Space Bar' for a few drinks.

I mentioned 'capitalization'. Certain I am, he met with some 'bros' and got the street word, "This Jive Turkey Is Funnin You, Ain't no drink or smack by dat name!"

I mentioned punctuation marks such as 'comma', 'period' and 'colon'.
Back to the 'bros'. Same response as above.

Then mrcmrc started using the "N" word, and I warned him.

Our anti-protagonist continued to use the word.

Then mrcmrc issued a disgusting post where he issued a death wish for two of our better posters.

I flagged everyone of his racist remarks and his death wish, and told him I would continue to do so, along with not responding to him, except to spoof or flag.

I will NOT flag stupid posts, but I WILL flag Racist and Death wishes!

Sorry, I have my limits.

Rats.
Angry Rat.

ratas y ratones
whats your point?????

History does repeat itself
I know a lot of conservatives are unhappy about this lean, almost comically ungainly guy from Illinois. What experience does he have other than being a lawyer and spending a little time in the Illinois legislature and a single term in Congress? How can he possibly heal the divisions that are tearing this country apart and confront our problems?

And all he does is draw crowds and make good speeches. And when he makes a speech, people seem to forget about his different appearance and focus on his appeals to peoples' higher natures. He talks of healing and unity instead of the divisions that are ripping the nation apart. His speeches seem to strike a chord among people seeking an end to the relentless partisanship that as left the country unable to solve its problems.

He also seems to strike an unreasoning fear into those whose forte has been division and sectional rivalry. They claim he is naive, inexperienced and will destroy the country. Fear and division have been their political weapons and they use them desperately in an effort to destroy his candidacy.

After an improbable win in a primary campaign that no one thought he could win against a seemingly-anointed rival, he went on to become a pretty good president, maybe one of our best. We even have a monument in Washington D.C. to him, the naive, inexperienced Abraham Lincoln.
