Poll
Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

With every passing week it becomes more likely that Hillary Clinton will be the Democratic Party nominee for president. This thought, alone, should provide the strongest possible motivation to the Bush administration and the Washington Republicans to get their acts together so that the eventual Republican nominee for president doesn't start the general election campaign in too deep a hole.

The polls that show half the country saying they won't vote for Hillary should be discounted. At the election, the choice will not be Hillary or not Hillary -- it will be Hillary or someone else. And that is what the campaign is about.

I admit it is very early days in the nomination process, but Sen. Obama's and former Sen. Edward's campaigns are beginning to look just strong enough to induce the Hillary campaign to continually sharpen its skills (rather than succumb to the instinct to coast or sit on a lead). On the other hand, the candidacies of both Obama and Edwards may have fairly low ceilings, while the Hillary campaign has a solidity that should be able to grind on remorselessly to nomination.

Obama's campaign, at least to my eyes, seems more froth than substance. It was born of a ludicrously enthusiastic media launch. Without spending a penny, his candidacy was given -- by the media -- a plausible credibility that defied political reality. Lacking not only any relevant governmental experience, he also lacked any other professional experience (e.g. military, business) that the public has invariably looked to as alternative preparation for the presidency. At least since the Civil War, Obama would be the least experienced man elected to the presidency.

All he has are his personal attributes -- which are of mixed political value. Obviously he is attractive, intelligent, eloquent and charismatic. But America has yet to elect as president a black man, or a person who, in his youth was probably Muslim (according to the Los Angeles Times) -- which, unfair as it might be, will weigh on the minds of Americans given the unfolding world events of our time.

Nor is Obama champion for any deeply considered and held great issue of the day. His anti-Iraq war position is essentially perfunctory and -- in the fullness of time -- will be publicly indistinguishable from Hillary's.

The extraordinary excitement in, and size of, his campaign crowds are over-represented by young people -- who invariably are under-represented in the voting booths of both parties. He is a crowd-attracting curiosity -- and a delightful one. But losing presidential campaigns throughout our history have often been marked by large, enthusiastic crowds.

His media-driven launch immediately captured much of the substantial anti-Hillary sentiment in the Democratic Party. But as the months have unfolded, he has not followed up his launch with continuing dramatic rises in his poll numbers or in equivalent fund-raising performance -- being badly beaten by Hillary's fund raising in Hollywood, New York and generally.

And, as we are still almost a year from the first primary votes being cast, his freshness and uniqueness will have long faded by then. He might have been formidable in a lightning campaign of three or four months, but in a long ground war of attrition -- bet on Hillary's massive institutional strengths. Just one recent example is her purchase of former Iowa Governor Tom Vilsack's support for the crucial Iowa Caucuses. In one swoop, she has not only bought his endorsement, but the use of his formidable state machine -- which is vital in the hand-to-hand combat of a caucus state.

She could buy that not only because she has the money -- but because if a Democratic politician is looking for a place in the presumed next Democratic Administration -- the smart money is on Hillary. There will doubtlessly be more Vilsacks falling into her ample lap in the coming months. Every little bit helps in a war of attrition.

Hillary's campaign is also blessed by the continuing effort of the Edward's campaign. She needed the Edwards campaign to split the anti-Hillary vote (and money). If he had dropped out after the sad news of his wife's illness, Hillary would have had to face Obama one on one (effectively) -- always a dangerous condition against an attractive adversary. But the persistence of the Edwards campaign muddies the campaign waters to Hillary's advantage, but is almost certainly not capable of knocking out Obama's campaign and taking Hillary on one-on-one. (Should Al Gore get in the race, his announcement day would be the high point of his campaign.)

Moreover, Hillary's strengths are not yet as appreciated as they will be. Don't get me wrong, personally I find her and her candidacy detestable as the worst form of unprincipled, ruthless, nihilistic, mud-throwing demagogic politics. But for the Democratic Party electorate (and some Independents and soft Republicans) her apparent strengths will become more persuasive. Currently she suffers by the media's focus on her lack of spontaneity, charm or pleasant voice -- particularly when compared with Obama and, to some extent, Edwards.

But charm is not the only path to the American voter. Richard Milhous Nixon won more national elections than any politician in our history (two vice presidents, three presidential nominations and two presidencies -- three if you count the stolen 1960 election against Kennedy). He didn't have any charm -- but he was smart, shrewd, highly political, hard working and ruthless.

Sometimes the voters are looking for what they think is competence rather than a love affair.

That is why I sometimes use the name Hillary Milhous Clinton for the junior senator from New York. It is only partially meant to be negative. But it is meant to be a warning to my fellow Republicans. Beware. It will be up to the Republicans to protect the country from the increasing likelihood of a Hillary presidency.

Eh
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Get used to Madame President and First Lady Bill.

Why? Because the Repub party has not learned its lesson from the 2006 drubbing. Conservatives were right to stay home, so that 2008 could be a good year. But no. Mel Martinez and the neocons have kept the car on cruise control and will secure defeat in 2008.

The Demos are united. The Repub party is greatly divided. Where the Demos all agree and are all employees on the plantation, the Repubs are running on what their constituents want to hear and turning into Democrats after a year or two in DC.

In the end, the choice between two identical parties is no choice at all.

We'll have a new
choice in Fred Thompson soon. He will be a good candidate against the Shrillary charade.

If you want to see what could happen in this country with Hillary as POTUS, come to my blog for Juliet Smith's Diary, Chapters I, II, III, and IV.
http://www.peppermintsplace.townhall.com

Yeah, Pepp
Absolutely right.

And after reading this column, I'm wondering why it wasn't published on Huffington or KOS, instead of here.

I don't care about the Democrats' problems. We should be trying to solve our own.

Wonderful
Hillary the Socialist wants to be president of the New Order of the Disunited Socialist States of the American Continent.

Wonderful.

yes...
tell us something we don't know. I'm surprised this article was voted on so highly.

Unfortunately "W" turned out to be his father's son. Maddening, since there was so much potential.

Its time for the party to show it is different by being bold. Fred Thompson might be the best choice. He is an old white guy though(not that there is anything wrong with that) Or...what about Sec'y Rice?!

hippocracy
I find it interesting that the feminist movement according to hillary relies solely on a man. she has been running for office since she married billy blythe. her accomplishments are because of his power. this country does not need a manipulative power hungry self serving law breaker as its leader. why isn't hillary in jail. oh yeah, must be something about those 93 district attorney's billy blythe got rid of. Does anybody ever really wonder who his real father is?

Cyclonic
Hillarys run for the White House will move with the force of a cyclone, the wind will be at her back. When it comes to having experience, she is the polar opposite of Obama, a mere fledgling in the fold. The Ladys been tried, tested, re-formulated and tweaked not to mention maligned, and she's ready, to roll..and if that weren't sufficient enough prerequisites, she's got that army of supporters and volunteers..the electoral votes are in the bag.
She also packages one thing none of the other candidates can match or offer the people, excitement.
Buch, Clinton, Bush, Clinton.
That's how this hand gets played out.

All
I HOPE that the Dhimmicrats RUN HITLARY! Especially after the poll came out yesterday that stated that 50% of adults in the USA would NOT vote for The Hildabeast. And if we DEMAND that the RINOs step aside for a REAL conservative like Fred T., we're gonna crush the leftist vermin.

How sweet would that be? Hitlary and Drop-Trou OUT of politics forever. Can America dodge a bullet a THIRD TIME?

Lastly, got three NEW articles on my blog (click on my handle!)

2 bashing libscum
1 essay on the Brit's standing down on the 15.

18 Months Is An Eternity
Blankley is correct on all counts. However, his comparison with RM Nixon is perhaps a bit off. Nixon had a natural "majority" going back to his days in the House. His loss to JFK underscored his strength. Despite having the entire Washington and national Press Corps against him, the Union and big city bosses and thier machines, not to mention the intelligensia and glitterati, Nixon came within a few thousands votes of victory. He actually did win Illinois when it came to light that over 100,000 votes castes there were illegal. But he refused to put the nation through an ordeal during heightened Cold War tensions.

HRC never enjoyed such a base. She does attract Bill loyalists and those of the DLC wing of her party, but there is little energy for her otherwise. Yes, the party will come around to accept her, but grudgingly. Nixon really never had this problem. His attraction was wide and deep (East Coast Liberal Republicans, Main St Republicans, rural farmers, Cold Warriors, and eventually the Dixiecrats). HRC has a much narrower base. Her negatives are particulary high in the South and Mountain States - and her negatives amongst married women with children are downright ugly. She will have the same problem Bill had in '92. Bill got no more than 42% of the popular vote. She will need someone like Ross Perot to get her in office.

JP
Ross Perot. Petoooey! I hold him directly responsible for the eight years of The Impeached one's rule of H*LL!

Excellent Column
This is one of Blankley's best columns. It shows excellent analysis of the factors at play in this "much-too-early" political campaign. Hillary, or course, has been running for president since she was Co-President (in her own mind). There are large numbers of us who can't stand the thought of the Clintons in the Oval Office again. Even so, Blankley, I think, is correct in pointing out that Republicans had better get their act together. Hillary will have almost the full-fledged backing of the MSM, for most of them graduated in the left-leaning journalism schools in our country and would be in her corner.

If Hillary does get her party's nomination, and wins the election, socialism -- big government, "it takes a village to raise a child" -- will trample even further on traditional values than is currently the case.

Maybe Fred Thompson is the answer. I personally hope Secretary Rice would consider running. Whomever our candidate turns out to be, we Republicans need to do some serious planning and get our act together. Our candidate will be confronted once again by a democrat fully supported by a biased media.

Rudy would kill her
Rudy would pick up enough blue states so she wouldn't have any chance. If the repubs insist on a purer candidate (i.e. socially as well as fiscally conservative), then get ready for Madame President

Hank from Mass
Disagree. Fred Thompson is already polling in the double digits among the GOP base. The ONLY reason the MSM is shilling for the RINO's is that they KNOW we'll stay home if Rudy the RINO runs thus ushering in the reign of The Hildabeast. The base is tired of RINOs as is evident by the mid-term elections.

Thank you Gunny
Although I also think the RNC has something to do with the popularity of the "Big 3" Repubs. The RiNoC wants another candidate and they are mad at the base for not buying into their neocon aspirations.

Mel Martinez taking the helm was the ultimate "screw you" to conservatives. They will be in the minority for a while, and even when the Repubs take back congress in Hitlery's first midterm, she'll play the same game that her husband did to make them look bad, shaming them into RINOism. Again.

The Demos are united and they are commited. The RNC is a willing accomplice.

Bush and his company
of Neocons have destroyed the GOP! Pelosi has Bush eating out of her hand and he enjoys it!

2008: Demo controlled congress and presidency. It's coming. Illegal alien amnesty, open border, Iraq withdrawal, and massive scaling down of the military. Schumer/Finestein firearm confiscation program commences.

They say they can't round up 12 million illegals, but they sure as heII will find a way to round up 250 million legally owned guns.

Will Thompson Run?

.....I heard that Thompson will attend a meeting of 40 high level Republicans in mid-April to discuss a possible run for the White House ...

.....If he decides to run look for a failing McCain campaign to throw their support to Thompson ...

.....if Thompson doesn't run then Giuliani is the Republicans best bet to defeat Hillary ...regardless of what the purists think of Rudy ...if he can keep the Clintons out of power ...the GOP has to support him ...

.....Dangerous Dave ...the Democrats stick together because they are collectivists ...it is their group think nature to unite ...Republicans on the other hand are individualists and therefore less cohesive ...I believe they will unite against Hillary however .....COLOSSUS

Just another theory.

How long will it take Tony to recycle this piece when he decides to "inform us" who our "real choice" should be? When he finally comes out for one of the Big 3?

Fill in the blankley's with the name of your own choice right now and, see if this isn't plausible.

1) Should _______ get in the race, his announcement day would be the high point of his campaign

2) _______ at least to my eyes, was born of a ludicrously enthusiastic launch. Without spending a penny, his candidacy was given a plausible credibility that defied political reality

3)__________'s launch immediately captured much of the substantial anti-three sentiment in the party. But as the months have unfolded, he has not followed up his launch with continuing dramatic rises in his poll numbers or in equivalent fund-raising performance.

3) because if a politician is looking for a place in the presumed next Administration -- the smart money is on _______.

Purity and Baseballdoc
I've seen a lot of scold aimed at Conservatives for wanting more purity in a candidate lately. And it does make some sense when compared to the alternative.

But if the Demos can have purity, and they will in 2008 no matter if it's in the form of Obama or Hitlery, why can't conservatives?

You answered this before I asked it, baseball. Demo groupsthink. They're all plugged into the same server.

baseballdoc

Point taken....BUT Rudy CANNOT keep Mrs C out of the Oval Office! In fact, I would submit to you that with his past, and the Clinton attack machine (which in case you haven't heard employs the MSM heavily) every bone of every skeleton in Rudy's closet will be picked clean.

End of the Republic.

PS
I honestly don't see where any of the current hopefuls can stop her. If the Dems do go ahead and, nominate Madame Comrade Clinton, we on the Right are going to need a White Knight to ride to the rescue.

Right now the only people that can stop Hill-Billary are either the Democrats themselves or Fred Thompson.

Help Make Fred Thompson OUR 42nd President!

Visit http://draftfredthompson.com/index.php

Hank from Mass
I'm from Mass as well...

Don't kid youself...we are not the braintrust nor the backbone of the GOP way up here.

And the fact is without the base it is over.
Rudy will NOT as you say "pick up enough blue states so she wouldn't have any chance"

Do you honestly think Rudy will carry Ohio? Michigan? California? Or even Massachusetts? I think Rudy as the Republican standard bearer takes one of the worst beatings of all time... Kinda McGovern-like.

Enough of the Repuclican base repudiates ALL of the BIG 3's liberal philosophy... start with the fact they all love the "open border" policy as espoused by GWB & the Dims...

And to think that if we lose this one we may lose the party's influence on all things in the future entirely. Especially once the influx of the 12 - 25 million illegals are given the right to vote Democrat.

"Dangerous" Dave
Maybe I'm just combative by nature but being in the minority is not a reason to roll over and play dead. The GOP, when in the MAJORITY, should have been ramming it down the libs throats like THEY did in the 30's-60's.

Frigging RINOs, where's my elephant gun!? haha.

catalina
BINGO!

The GOP needs to take the kid gloves off when dealing with the leftists. Several good smacks should sent those girlieboys and manlygirls back to their nasty holes.

Hope
I hope HC does get the nomination. It's time to put down the Clinton machine once and for all. However, I wouldn't be too sure of it. Here on the left coast Obama is running way ahead, followed by Edwards. They wisely abandoned Kook Kucinich this time. Notice none of those candidates have enough experience to do anything? Proves my point about how dumb this country has become.

Lolo:
How dumb has this country become?

In 2004, 49% of the country voted for a traitor that ran on a campaign of "Help is on the Way".

Help is on the way? And 49% of us voted for him? That is a travesty.

The non hacker vote now accounts for 49% of Americans. UNbelievable.

Passing up
To Peppermint and all others. Any Republican candidate other than Duncan Hunter will lose, to any of the Democratic candidates. Duncan Hunter has real military experience and will have a cool head during crises. Duncan Hunter has steady experience in Congress since 1980. Duncan Hunter has the right stand on the issues.
Duncan Hunter can express himself clearly and unabashedly. The GOP 'smart money' are not smart enough to support Duncan Hunter. Like Ronald Reagan, he has appeal to people who vote; but is abhorrent to "smart money". Thinks for himself.
Knows where the bear got into the buckwheat. Won't be going along with their brand of Internationalism, but will guide Foreign Affairs to the benefit of Americans.

I don't think it matters who the Democratic candidate and running mate are. If the Republicans put up any of the same old empty suits, the Democratic candidates will win. Has Mr. Blankley, have any of you, noticed that Duncan Hunter is different in his approach to Security, to Immigration, to Trade, than the others, of either party? Duncan Hunter is the Real Deal. Reality is not popular, but must be dealt with. But "smart money" thinks they can choose a counterfeit stooge and win. Not so; yet they will pass up a dollar to grab a dime. "Smart money" was on Bush in 1980, until the Primaries and Convention pushed Reagan onto them. But not to worry, because "Smart Money" is just as well satisfied with Democratic Presidents. A stooge by whatever name still plays the Big Boys game. Duncan Hunter is too much like Grover Cleveland to suit the "Smart Money Crowd." Their latest darling is the Paul Harvey understudy schmoozer. Let's get real. Let's nominate and elect Duncan Hunter.

Women voters
...are, by and large, stupid. (Yep, I'm a woman ) Just as many voted for JFK because he was "handsome" (I'm old enough to remember that), and the same thing for Bill Can't-Keep-the-Pants-Zipped, many stupid women will vote for Shrillery solely because she's a woman.

The Bottom Line
Isn't the bottom line we are all seeking is TRUTH? When did we start to believe that truth was a sin?

I firmly believe that A LEOPARD CANNOT CHANGE ITS SPOTS. What you have been you will be.

At times I wish we could wipe the slate clean for everyone and all start anew. Then, we would all know the truth, because those who are liars and cheats would continue to be such. And punishment would be based on new crimes, not the past.

A LEOPARD CANNOT CHANGE ITS SPOTS. Interesting when you think about it. As an example, whether or not you are a fan of Donald Trump, if he was penniless today, it would not take him long to again amass a fortune.

If Hillary and Bill were absolved of all their past sins, it would not take them long to compile a huge list of new ones.

Such is true, whether it is fortune or sins, for all of us because A LEOPARD CANNOT CHANGE ITS SPOTS.

The difference is that not all of us are candidates to be the next president of this nation. Hillary is. And others who are running are not as pure as the new fallen snow either.

What we desperately need from each of these candidates is TRUTH.

Let me focus on just one for this post. Here is TRUTH about Hillary.

More About "Hillary Clinton Donor Money: Two Multi-Million Dollar RICO Suits Filed Against International Profit Associates By Group Of Plaintiffs." from Gabrielle Cusumano's blog.

"Hillary Clinton still hounded by blood-money questions" is the heading and the first paragraph reads "IN THE FINAL WEEKEND before electing their next U.S. senator, New York voters continue to sift through constant revelations about Hillary Rodham Clinton and her pro-terrorist donors. The First Lady claims not to have known that the American Muslim Alliance (AMA) sponsored a June 13 fund-raiser in Boston where she received $50,000 in donations and a plaque. Her campaign originally stated that the event was a meeting of Massachusetts Americans of Arab descent and that the AMA later tried to say it arranged the gathering." This is from the Jewish World Review.

"Hillary Clinton and the sweatshop tycoon of Saipan" from TheHill.com.

From the March 3, 2007 LA Times: "Clinton donor wanted by FBI in scheme to funnel money" A Pakistani immigrant who hosted fundraisers in Southern California for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is being sought by the FBI on charges that he funneled illegal contributions to Clinton's political action committee and Sen. Barbara Boxer's 2004 reelection campaign.

Authorities say Northridge businessman Abdul Rehman Jinnah, 56, fled the country after an indictment accused him of engineering more than $50,000 in illegal donations to the Democratic committees. A business associate charged as a co-conspirator has entered a guilty plea and is scheduled to be sentenced in Los Angeles next week........"

Why have I presented this information? Because although there is and will be significant debate on the right or wrong of the Libby conviction, we must continuously focus on our nation's future. If Hillary becomes President, what "favors" will these donors demand? How much more corrupt will our government become?

Will the laws against “Sexual Harrassment in the Workplace” be abandoned? Valid question since one of Hillary's largest supporters is John Burgess and International Profit Associates who have the largest in history sexual harrassment suit filed against them - was about 160 women and John Burgess proudly boasts of getting it down to about 116.

What about the laws against the crimes her other donors have committed?

Can we risk it?

thinking outside of the box
there is a sort of devious logic in all of this political posturing and calculation strategies, which in a word can be summed up as follows...
How much are we willing to compromise and yield of our values and beliefs to buy political time?
As a Christian who believes in such things as an inviolable law, written by the Finger of God, I fear that many cave into the false and fallen logic of the political strategy game, and a deadly game it is.
Clearly both parties drift ever away from God and his Moral Truth.
We need to seek out Men who are uncompromising in their moral convictions and willing to speak the truth in love.
If we are willing to do what is right and honorable without regard to fallen human reason and the incessant pressure from the worldly press, then we can perhaps make a real difference.
As for how well ungodly politicians may or may not do, and what % of voters are impressed at any moment in time, don't even waste your thoughts on them.
Fear God and keep His Commandments.
Pray for His Divine Intervention into the call for good leadership and un plug the One Eyed Idiot.
Surely there are yet 7,000 men who have not bowed the knee unto baal?

Bottom Line Rephrased
Because of all the LOUSE who have contributed to Hillary Clinton's campaign and WILL expect favors, if Hillary becomes president, we can say good-bye to respectability and many protections in this country.

She will have to say it ok to sexually harrass your employees because she accepted money and other favors from John Burgess of International Profit Associates - holder of the record for the largest EEOC case ever.

She will have to condone sweat shops cause her buddies in Saipan, Willie Tan and others, say that is their way of life. Besides he has lots of money to dole out.

And, of course she will have to say it is OK illegally funnel money as long as she gets her cut - oh, and just don't get caught. Afterall, her good friend, Northridge businessman Abdul Rehman Jinnah, did it so it must be Ok. He is such a good fundraiser, he must be ok.

Wake up American Women - Hillary is NOT a good example for our daughters, granddaughters, nieces, and sisters. Do buy in to her silver tongue.

America, protect our freedoms. Just say NO to Hillary. Don't even let her get the nominaton.

I'm waiting for someone to hold her feet to the fire. Which of you commentators - radio or television - will take the challenge? Just say to heck with politically correct!!!

Henry

Mr. Blankley:
Except for their egos, which demand each individual and s/he alone should win, it does not matter who gets nominated or who ‘wins’. The results will be the same.

America will still borrow a couple of billion a day to pay for the politician’s folly and big business bottom line.

Please tell me one more time GWB is a conservative. If so then the definition of conservative must be: Make all you can while you can off the dummies that are the “American People”.

How dumb must we readers of NR and this column be?

Hillary for President?
ALL of the present Democrat contenders COMBINED have less executive experience than the manager of your local supermarket!
Remember the slanderous "Hit Piece" Michael Moore did on Bush?
A hit piece on Hillary is being filmed right now.
You can bet Michael Moore or someone will produce something for the Conservative Candidate.
That is probably why candidates are reluctant to step forward early.
Republicans will have a viable candidate.
I wish the Democrats would furnish a viable alternative in case MSM spoon feeds us a RINO.
They will probably run something like this and spend the next 4 years whimpering and complaining about the Republican President.
