Will the Dems' health care Christmas Present to America be an improvement or detriment to our health care system?

1: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid cleared by Senate Ethics Committee

After carefully reviewing all the evidence, the Ethics Committee determined that Sen. Reid had "inadvertently" failed to report on his financial disclosure statement that he had secretly become a majority stockholder of Caesar's Palace, The Golden Nugget, The Bellagio, The Venetian, Harrah's, the Mirage, MGM Grand and The Hotel at Mandalay Bay. "They were all just friendly, "handshake" deals between me and several new friends of mine," the senator said. The fact that these forgotten deals had increased the Reid family's net assets from $812.37 to $3.7 billion was dismissed as a "technicality, and not probative of the senator's intent" by an Ethics Committee staffer.

The Ethics Committee also dismissed as "a coincidence" the fact that a proposed zoning change pushed by Sen. Reid shortly prior to the eight "handshake deals" would have put each of those hotels out of business.

2. Senate passes Sen. Ned Lamont's bill to withdraw all our forces from the Pentagon and West Point -- leaving a small contingent over the horizon in Utah.

Sens. Ted Kennedy, Chuck Hagel, Lindsey Graham and Jim Webb made the supporting argument that the U.S. military's position in the Pentagon was no longer sustainable now that Democrats (and friends) controlled Congress. "We will cut their budgets, court marshal their officers and indict any congressman who opposes us. We will give them 30 days to vacate the Pentagon premises, after which it will be turned over to the ACLU, as their new world headquarters. With those fine facilities in ACLU hands, we can count on the full vindication of the civil rights of radical Islamist American-killing terrorists. To those poor innocent prisoners at GITMO, we say: "Help is on the way!"

Sen. Clinton argued on the Senate floor that now that she and Gov. Spitzer have won their elections by over 70 percent, the long gray line at West Point will also have to retreat to Utah "before we come in and get them." Ever gracious in victory, Sen. Clinton allowed: "if the West Pointers want to do a little military home schooling in Utah, that will be permissible -- for the time being, and once they are disarmed."

3. Democratic Congress passes $12-trillion-tax increase.

In a carefully crafted tax bill drafted by House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charles "Vengeance is Sweet" Rangel, and Sen. Charles "Look, Ma, Top of the World" Schumer, tax rates will be raised to confiscatory levels, but only for tax payers, businesses and Christian churches (except for the Episcopalians) residing in, doing business in or praying in congressional districts that went for President Bush by more than 55 percent in the 2004 election.

Chairman Rangel explained, "All those Republicans probably had shares in Halliburton and made millions. If they didn't, then they probably sold Enron stock before the crash. We don't have time for trials, so we're just going to take all their money. They're also chicken hawks. Did you know I served in the military in the 1950s?

Sen. Schumer explained the religious angle to the tax bill: "We're giving the Episcopalian churches a break because most of their congregations believe in the principle of choice in both abortion and sexual orientation. Also, their congregations contribute to the Audubon Society, not the GOP. For the rest of them, all I can do is to quote from the synoptic gospels: "Reddite igitur quae sunt Caesaris Caesari" (Render unto Caesar what is Caesar's).

4. In a switch of positions, all GOP members voted for the endangered species protection act -- adding as an amendment, the inclusion of Republicans in the protected class.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi led the successful fight to defeat the Republican amendment, citing approvingly Herbert Spencer's social Darwinist argument that "Thus by survival of the fittest, the militant type of society becomes characterized by profound confidence in the governing power, joined with a loyalty causing submission to it in all matters whatever."

Thus she approved of Republicans becoming extinct, concluding her floor argument: "Republicans are a repulsive species and don't deserve to live. In those few areas still habitated by Republican congressmen we should import large quantities of snail darters and Democratic Party operatives to hasten the GOP's extermination."

In making this harsh argument that Republicans have no moral right to exist, she disproved, by her action, Herbert Spencer's other argument that, notwithstanding the phenomenon of survival of the fittest, human society maintains an "innate moral sense" -- by which humans come to arrive at certain moral intuitions and from which laws of conduct might be deduced. ("The Principles of Ethics," I [1892], p. 26).

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING YOU CAN DO FOR GOD, FAMILY AND COUNTRY

IS TO VOTE!!!

Not just when you have the time to do it, but at every opportunity that is given to you to do it.

If you do not vote, you are leaving your, and your families, fate in the hands of others. A low turnout on Election Day means that a fervent, well organized minority point of view can easily win and push this nation in a direction it might not want to go. The Iraqi people recognized this when 12 million people (almost 80% of the registered voters) faced threats of death from just such a fervent “terrorist” group and voted for democracy; a concept they didn’t quite understand but knew that its liberties would be far better than the tyranny that such a minority group would establish, given the chance.

So when you vote, make sure you know for what you are voting, and the repercussions that might result from an uninformed decision. Find time to study the issues and be committed to them before you choose. Know what groups have opinions and beliefs similar to yours and see what their recommendations on the issues are. Conversely, see what the opinions of those groups you oppose are and study their recommendations, then cast your vote wisely.

John Citizen
Please, everyone, stop being so critical of John Citizen. Far from being an unimaginative cut-n-paste tool of the George Soros, he is a great artist like Ezra Pound! After all, old Ezra had insane political theories and made a name for himself by pasting together out of context quotes, so why can't John C?

Take today, for example. Rather than give us his usual Post A, or post B, he decided to completely nonsensically run together not just Post A and Post B, but also Post C, creating one massive work of post-modern poetry!

Please take a moment and marvel at his artistry!

These are the worst of times- 2007
Although the 2006 mid-terms look to be a massive rejection of the Republican Party, George W. Bush sees a silver lining in the clouds. With the end of the Republican majority in the House, Bush can ally himself with the Democrats and pass the Kennedy-McCain-Bush-Rove immigration amnesty/demographic revolution bill. As a lame duck who really doesn't care who suceeds him(Jeb isn't runniing), Bush becomes a foreign policy president willing to fight for presidential prerogatives. These will include a continued military occupation of Iraq despite Democratic wishes, a European Union-styled economic pact with Mexico and Canada, and possibly military action against Iran. In 2007, Bush would be largely be on his own with the caveat that the major goals for the rest of his presidency will be met.

Of course, the above scenario damages his own party but maybe Bush doesn't mind. A Republican Party with bad morale in 2008 combined with a John McCain presidential run may push Hillary Clinton over the top. And this would allow brother Jeb to choose either 2012 or 2016 to run for the family office.

Of course, everything noted above would have dire consequences for conservatives. And that is why 2007 will be the worst of times for conservatives.

JohnCitizens Great Bladderskat
This two page cut & paste is so stale the author thinks BUSH is a candidate in this election.

This is the same cartload of crap that is refuted here at TH every day without fail.

The first time someone makes a erronious statement and it is refuted, HE IS MISTAKEN!
Henceforth if he continues to make that same statement knowing full well it is false then there is another name for that act.

JohnCitizen, why are the terrorists hopeing Democrats will win this election? Why are they expending so much effort to help Democrats win?
Is it because Democrats campaign on a platform of SURRENDER IRAQ?

The Communist Chinese Government contributed to Bill Clinton's campaign. Are we going to discover some day that bin Ladin contributed to the DNC? He sure wants Democrats to win. A win for Democrats would be a great victory for al Qaeda!

The Democrats have already promised to remove troops from Iraq and cut the military budget.

Tony, Tony, TONY!!!
Shameless...
I've always looked to your column for thoughtful punditry, not sarcastic scare tactics! And I'm surprised at you giving up all hope already. I can't wait to hear how you and Bob Scheer get on at LRC this Friday...

Lobo 1776
John Forbes Kerry, the epitome of arrogance!

He has no core, he is an empty suit.

Since being an Irish catholic democrat is a good thing in Boston politics, he let that image continue for decades. (His grandfather was Cohen and changed the name.)

For years he traded on the myth he threw his military medals over the White House fence. (He still has them in his office. He tossed someone else's medals.)

He parades as a patriot and ran for the presidency while under contract to a foreign entity. (He signed a pre-nup with the lovely Teresa. Guess who makes the decisions in that 'family'.)

These are just a few of the highlights about this totally ineffective person. (Two decades in the Senate from a not insignificant state and not a single bill bears his name.--Think about it.)

News Flash
This morning beheadings have been reported in minor municipalities to numerous to mention and mushroom clouds were seen over Tel Aviv, L.A., San Francisco, Salt Lake City, Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, Denver, Kansas City, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Boston, New York, and Washington D.C. Confirmation cannot be obtained due to lack of communication.

An hour before the sightings the new Queen and King of the American Communist Party was seen leaving with her cabinet (full of White House China) in her newly painted pink Abrams A-2 tank with escorts for Tim Buck To. The report states she’s going there to give a victory speech.

And now a word from our patriot on the street: What do you have to say about the latest news sir? “I say, you people should have bought your guns early and avoided the rush!”

"Court marshall"
Is that the same as court-martial, Tony?

JohnCitizen
and ill say the same thing today i said to you yesterday:"If MoveOn.org is too crowded to post than go have lunch with Babs or the Dixie Chicks..just stay the heck out of here"

So sorry for the outburst folks but I'm still angry about Kerry's comments about our service folks.

Dont know why I'm so upset tho. I was in the military for 20 years. I saw future liberal Democrat senators and representatives stand in airports and spit at G.I.s returning from Vietnam. The Democrats cut the military budget so bad that in the late seventies our soldiers living overseas and here were forced to get food stamps so they could take care of their families. There was no money for R & D, and no money for equipment maintenance. Then the Dems blamed us for the Iranian mission fiasco.

Even during the Reagan years, the Dems fought any kind of money for our people. I dont know how many times I had to sit down with my troops and explain to them why they werent gonna get the paychecks they were promised. Evertime I walked in a started with:"Well, the Democratic Congress did it again" they knew they were in trouble.

Then came the deep personnel and budget cuts the Dems insisted Bush the first make after we won the Cold War, and the travesty that was the Clinton years. Thats when Veep Al B. Gore was tapped to streamline and cut the Federal Government budget. He did it on the backs of the military.

And now comes John(CUT AND RUN) Kerry who only went into military service to further his political career calling our people:"uneducated and unsuccessful who got “stuck in Iraq”. Here's a guy who wrote his own commendations and who still wont come clean with his war-time service pandering to his voting base using the same formula that was used 30 years ago. The same rhetoric, the same insults.

If only he had some medals he could have thrown into the crowd......

John Citizen(?)
I am fed up to my gills with the constant lefty mantra of "TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH"

Back in '02, Iwas selling Chevrolets and the 'rich' came in to trade because their accountants said the time was right. The Bush tax cuts and accelerated depreciation had made it so.

I could spot the 'rich' from afar. They were the ones wearing worn work boots, paint-stained sweat shirts with faded baseball caps. They often came in with their Walmart-clothed wives and two small children. (I guess the au-pair had the snilffles.) They were trading their luxury dump trucks and service vans so they could continue to oppress the working class and capitalistically steal from their fellows by upgrading homes and businesses.

Stop performing your own colonoscopy and look around and THINK!!!

Re: John Citizen (?)
I've had it with the constant mantra "TAX CUTS FOR THE RICH".

Back on '02 I was selling Chevrolets. The 'rich' came in to take advantage of the Bush tax cuts and accelerated depreciation plan. They told me their accountants said it was a good time to trade.

I knew they were rich, I could spot them a mile away. They were the guys with worn out work boots, paint-stained sweat shirts and baggy jeans. The often came in with the Walmart-garbed wife trying to control two youngsters. (I guess the au-pair had the sniffles.)

These profligate, indolent RICH were replacing luxury dump trucks and service vans with which they continued to oppress the working class and capitalisticly ripping off citizens by upgrading homes and businesses.

Stop performing your own colonoscopy!!!

JohnCitizen writes...
that the tax cuts have been horrible. Man, what are you smoking because I want a bit myself. Tax revenues are UP and as a middle class citizen myself, I have never been doing as good as right now. All of my middle class friends are also doing better now so where in the heck do you get your opinion from?

And I just love how Liberals look at corporations as if they are evil. They are PUBLICLY OWNED. Don't you get that? So if a corporation does good several things can happen:

1. hire more workers/expand business
2. purchase new equipment (resulting in jobs for others)
3. pay dividends to shareholders (usually that middle class that is doing so horribly right now)

Come on. wake up...

True, we do need to cut spending greatly and also take on immigration, but this 'the sky is falling' attitude does not gain you any measure of respect by individuals who can see the big picture...

(oh and I love your comments on the Crusade in another thread. You should read up more on that to see WHY the Christians invaded in the first place. Note the Battle of Tours and the prohibition of Christians to visit the Holy Land in your studies).

Jim, re your comment to me
I suggest you send out a search party to hunt for your funny bone.

Harry Reid
Does anyone else find the fact that Harry Reid is "correcting" every annual ethics report he has filed since his first year (1986) in the Senate amazing? We might find that #1 is more accurate then forst thought.

AN UNCHALLENGED BUSH IN 2007
On Iraq: Bush's CUT AND RUN from “STAY THE COURSE!”

WE GET THE GOVERNMENT WE DESERVE… and, boy, we’ve really been getting it for the last few years! Truth, values, competence and results no longer matter in America.

The problem: our President is not a rational thinker – his mind accepts information from only two sources: faith and experience. For example, he learned the "the enemy will follow us here" from Vietnam and the Domino Theory: “If we don’t defeat the communists in Vietnam, then we’ll have to fight them here in America.” Now just insert “terrorists” and “Iraq” into the one lesson Bush learned from Vietnam.

Because Bush is not rational (strictly empirical and subjective), objective facts and evidence such as the latest National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) are meaningless to this anachronistic man of several millennia ago. The reality of Iraq is what he thinks it is, and so our country and our precious soldiers are in for much more of this growing catastrophe, incompetence at the top from day one and continuing for the foreseeable future, and SPIN, SPIN, SPIN.

IRAN… BUSH’S NEXT WAR? The leader of Iran comes off as a whacko, however, the Iranians and the rest of the world view George Bush in the same way, so there is a common starting point for diplomacy. Real diplomacy involves talking with your adversary one-on-one without preconditions, and there’s a lot to discuss with Iran: the CIA in the 1950s, the Shah, the 1979 hostage crisis, sponsorship of terror, Israel and justice in the Middle East. But if past is prelude, then Bush’s diplomacy with Iran will be perfunctory and manipulated (as it was with Iraq), and likely God has already spoken to our President and told him to go to war after the November 2006 elections (as he did with Iraq in 2002-2003 when the President consulted with "another Father," “a higher authority" than Bush41). This new Bush war should further help over one billion Muslims in their decision to fight America in a mutual holy war, and when the level of hatred against us finally engulfs Pakistan, then we face nuclear terror, and Biblical Armageddon becomes real and a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Meanwhile, on the economy: “TAXCUT AND SPEND” REPUBLICANS have absolutely no fiscal responsibility or accountability! The last time we had a balanced budget and pay-as-you-go legislation Bill Clinton was President and the Democrats instituted these Congressional controls. So much for Bush mythology on who has conservative values. Furthermore, Bush’s supply-side economics has not conserved our nation’s economic future.

SUPPLY-SIDE ECONOMICS… has sold our kids and grandkids down the river!

George Bush’s $3 trillion dollar tax giveaway to the rich has been a disaster for average Americans. Supply-side (trickle-down) economics is a bogus theory promoted by those who benefit from it. In a mature capitalist system, supply side never rules, it’s always the demand side of the equation that governs growth and well-being. Think about the 1930s Depression, General Motors had plenty of supply, but demand evaporated.

Previous U.S. recessions have been cured with only $200 billion in tax cuts targeted to the middle class, because the consumer (the great middle class) spends that tax cut and primes the economic pump. But George Bush has raised the debt that our children and grandchildren will have to pay from almost $6 trillion to almost $9 trillion for this current recovery, which is uniquely without wage gains, and which has shrunk the middle class that makes America strong and great.

Corporations (the supply side) are now loaded with cash, but there’s no place to spend it because they don’t see any demand. So many corporations are using that cash to buy back their stock – WOW, isn’t supply side wonderful in how it fulfills America’s needs? As the rich-poor divide increases, we’re headed toward previous shining examples of trickle-down economics: South America of the recent past and feudalism in the Middle Ages (South America and feudalism also had no wage gains).

A Future AP Report...Sometime in 2007
A Joint Session of Congress has ruled today that the Constitution is unconstitutional. All future legislative matters would be referred to the Supreme Court. As thier last official act, the Senate voted (51-49) to remove Justices Scalia, Roberts, Thomas, and Alito and replace them with Senators Levin, Feinstein, Durbin, and Kerry. The Congress also passed a law stating that House and Senate Democrats will enjoy life time seats as goverment consultants. GOP members had 12 hours to vacate thier offices. Also rumors abounded the Beltway that all GOP congressmen are under full IRS audits, and they are currently under house arrest. An unnamed official did admit that thier passports were seized, and Federal Marshalls now occupy thier properties.

Senator Clinton who was in London shopping for her coronation gown wasn't available for comment. But, an aide to Senator Clinton did chastise this reporter for not referring Senator Clinton by her correct title: Queen Hillary.

Sanity
Not all Reaganites have lost their optimism. I'm still hanging in there. I've been around long enough to see us come back from some incredible stupidity. The state of the USA on December the 6th 1941 was pretty sad. The difference that saved us was that at Pearl Harbor, people woke up. 9/11 didn't do it, but the external enemy can't win without further attack which sooner or later, will do it.

D'oh
Dang. I did it again. "its"

Its my magic fingers.

oh and Boozer?
You have my permission to leave the GOP tent...in fact, I'm sick of your negativity.

The one great thing about Reagan was his optimism--how ironic that those who claim to follow him have zero concept of that word.

Boozer1000
give it up...your 3rd party dreams are never going to happen.

You want politicians that aren't politicians and a utopia that only exists in the rhetoric of the spin doctors and those who buy the con.

Tony, Is that the best ya got
Gee, Tony, trying to scare us with Congressional ethics problems of Dems is pretty weak. This last Republican Congress set records for sleaze, indictments, and plea bargains. I think that it will take a while for the Dems to match them. Whatever happened to all the reforms promised in the Contract With America?

A pox on both your parties.

We need to start a new "Conservative" party that will balance budgets, shrink the size of government, get the government off of our phone lines and out of our bank accounts, secure our borders, and keep us out of idiotic foreign wars. We need Congressmen whose loyalties are to their country and their constituents not to their political party.

Watch the skies
Hey BrianR you been preparing for space alien invasion for the last twenty years too?

The point of this article, just in case it escaped you, is the danger a democrat congress will result in, and yet you persevere with these absurdities, which seem as farcical as the authors intent.

frey
or a Congress that doesn't get snookered by the new and improved Clinton Machine...

How about ...
a Congress that actually stands up to Bush-Cheney this time?

A joint session of Congress...
... started the Constitutional amendment process to abolish the position of President, retroactive to the administration of Ronald Reagan.
