Was the Copenhagen Global Warming Summit Walk-Out a Win for the U.S.?

John Stuart Mill once famously called the British Tories "The Stupid Party." From time to time since then, the Tory's American cousin, the Republican Party, has also earned that moniker. Now may be one of those moments. If current polls and anecdotes are to be believed, there may be a million or two conservative Republicans who are planning to not vote this November.

Of course, Mill also said, "A person may cause evil to others not only by his actions but also by his inaction, and in either case he is justly accountable to them for the injury."

Apparently, these anticipated conservative non-voters are annoyed with Republican imperfection. They are disheartened, disappointed, disillusioned, distempered, and dismal -- and thus plan to dis the party that better advances conservative principles in government.

They appear to have fallen victim to the false syllogism: 1) Something must be done; 2) not voting is something; therefore, 3) I will not vote. Of course the fallacy of the syllogism is that the second category could be anything. For example, No. 2 could as well read "eating dog excrement is something."

I rather suspect that they will feel about the same afterward, whether they chose the non-voting option or the scatological one. They are both equally illogical -- and repulsive -- and would deserve the moniker "Stupid."

Here are some telltale signs of the sort of person who would vote (or not vote) to cause the election of a party that would act to defeat every value and interest he holds dear (merely because the party that will at least try to advance most of those issues has not done as well as he might have hoped):

1) When offered by a car dealer 25 percent off on a car, he insists on paying the full factory-recommended retail sticker price -- because he is damned if he will accept 25 percent when he deserves 30 percent off.

2) When the prettiest cheerleader asks the nerd to take her to the prom, he turns her down -- just because he can.

3) When stopped for doing 70 in a 65 zone, he tells the trooper that's not possible because he had the cruise control set on 90 -- he just resents being falsely charged.

4) When diagnosed with a serious illness, he promptly cancels his medical insurance -- in order to save the cost of premium payments to help pay for the upcoming hospital stay.

A conservative would have to be just that stupid to stay home on Nov. 7. I have heard it put around that the Republicans need a couple of years in the wilderness to regain their conservative bearings.

While turning over the Congress to the Pelosi/Kennedy mob for even two years would be recklessly irresponsible -- particularly during a dangerous war-- there is no assurance the wilderness years would last only 24 months.

In 1954, the Democrats, led by the great Sam Rayburn, retook the House after control had seesawed back and forth for 10 years (1944-Democrat; 1946-Republican; 1948-Democrat; 1950-Democrat; 1952-Republican; 1954-Democrat)

Sam Rayburn (one of the shrewdest politicians ever to play the game) was so sure that the Republicans would take back the House in the Eisenhower re-election year of 1956, that when he became Speaker after the 1954 election, he didn't even bother to move his furniture back to the better office suite occupied by Joe Martin (the Republican Speaker who returned to Minority leader status after the 1954 Republican loss.) They decided to keep their previous office spaces rather than go through the bother of moving across the hall.

As it turned out, the Republicans didn't re-take a majority of the House for 40 years (The Gingrich-led election of 1994). So for 40 years the Republican minority leaders got to keep the better office space (that looked out over the majestic Washington Mall), while the Democratic Speakers for 40 years got a view of the parking lot.

I don't care who has the better office space in the future, but any conservative ought to be very concerned about who has the political power in Washington. The Democrats have virtually promised to scandalize the Republican administration (with subpoena and impeachment-seeking oversight hearings) for the next two years -- in preparation for defeating the 2008 Republican presidential nominee.

Moreover, every Democrat who beats a Republican in three weeks will have two years to feather his or her nest, and use the powers of incumbency to defeat his 2008 Republican challenger.

Even more important, in a closely fought 2008 presidential election, every extra Democratic incumbent senator, congressman and governor makes it just a little more likely that the Democratic presidential candidate may win that district or state. All those freshly tuned new Democratic machines will help get out Democratic Party votes for the top of their 2008 ticket.

This current conservative petulance -- if it actually occurs on Nov. 7 -- will increase the chances of electing Hillary, or worse (if such a thing is possible) in 2008.

There is no rational policy or political basis for conservatives not voting. I'm not sure the country can take the current Democratic mob in power for long.

A realist once observed that the history of mankind is little more than the triumph of the heartless over the mindless.

The Democrats are obviously heartless. Conservatives must guard against falling into the category of the mindless. Ignore your heartfelt peevements, use your brains and vote.

My comment on the first paragraph
Then I'll return and read the rest, but Blankley wrote: "a million or two conservative Republicans who are planning to not vote this November."

His faulty assumption is that all conservatives are Republicans. VERY faulty assumption, as I'm a conservative first, and a Republican a FAR distant second, and getting further by the day.

Back to the column.

BTW
If you agree with me, cast a vote on this column: one star.

I've decided that this is the way we lowly users can actually exercise some input into this website's choices.

No, not one star but five!
I don't get it. Why do conservatives think that by not voting, and thereby allowing the Congress Republican majority to be lost, think they are doing this country a favor? By "punishing" the current Congressional members they are in turn punishing themselves. Mr. Blankley, thank you for this terrific column. I for one will not stoop so low as to not vote because the idea of Speaker Palosi is enough to make me throw up.

I agree with the column
Five Stars

Ya know
if a bunch of republicans sit out the election in districts where the republicans win anyway, it will mean they don't have to listen to you people anymore.

John Stuart Mill
preached 'the greatest good for the greatest number' which sounds a lot like the crapola the Democrats are touting with their "common good" riff.

And the Democrats are notorious for calling people 'stupid' when they disagree with Mama who Knows Best.

While I don't believe that sitting on my butt and doing nothing but whining is 'doing something', I don't like the idea that if I don't do what I'm told, that means I'm stupid.

I will be voting in November.

Tanabear
I agree with you. He should have done two of those things, anyway.

God Knows, gore would not have.

Already voted (absentee), waiting for 2008.

A Prayer
I have one simple point. My son is in the military. I'd like not to happen now, what happened in '75. The dems took over Congress and let the former and no longer extant South Vietnam be overrun and destroyed. I commend a great piece by David Gelernter, via my own posting:

http://forgottenprophets.blogspot.com/2006/04/conflict.html

And also, personal yet relevent:

http://forgottenprophets.blogspot.com/2006/07/shoot-to-kill.html

It just seems relevent, is all. Coming from a father, whose son is in Baghdad. God, do not let them take over Congress.

Jack

Pelosi for Speaker???
As a craggy Cajun asked me the other day, “Are all y’all conservatives gonna cut off yo nose to bite yo face?”

Nope, this one is gonna hold her nose and vote Republican!

How Democrats think
I went to Chicago after losing my job during the economic downturn. I interviewed at a job placement firm. The interviewer made a few liberal political statements, which I afterward realized were probes to test my leanings. I had not participated in kind, and perhaps that explains why I never got a callback.

But I still fervently support God, the President, the country, and the Republican agenda. Only the first of these is perfect. I can live with the others despite their imperfections. A united country is something we are all capable of. That's more possible on the right side of the aisle.

It's too late
Tony to activate the whip...conservatives have been betrayed pure and simple...and you want us forgive and forget.....b.s.

There, there, Harry
Methinks you are an opposition-party morale-busting mole.

Then again, if you are not, your pouting days will be extended many times over when your conservative voice is totally drowned out by the pontifications of the party of Marxism.

SETTLE DOWN BRIANR
We don't want you banned again. SURE WERE ALL Pi**ed off but what's the alternative? certainly not staying home and not voting. The sadder side to this dilemma is that after seeing the Republican party was going down in flames, that a third party did not emerge and take advantage of the circumstances and give Conservatives some hope, and someone worthwhile to vote for.

Heads Need To Roll

They Cannot Have It Both Ways
The Dems got very vocal yesterday in condemning the military tribunal legislation President Bush signed. Charlie Rangle one of their stalwart venom spewers talked about the transgression on the rights of the prisoners in Guantanamo. It seems the Dems consider the prisoners incarcerated at Guantanamo to be more important than their constituents. Who do the Dems like the most? Those that plot and pray 5 times a day for the vision to plan and execute an attack to kill their neighbors or do they want to protect their neighbors. Can't have it both ways because the positions are diametrically opposed.
This is Democrat thinking--or not thinking--they want Constitutional protections for non-US citizen terrorist so the terrorist can better keep secret how they plan to kill the citizens of this country. When your mind is that muddled, you do not need power--you need a brain transplant.

Republicans in Congress
Repbulicans in Congress are like a teenage girl who threatens to go live with her drug dealing boyfriend if her parents don't indulge her every whim(If you don't give in to me the outcome will be worse). However, just as a thoughtful parent would not succumb to extortionist behavior, it is time for thoughtful Conservatives to provide Congressional Republicans with an intervention for their long term good. Two years of Nancy Pelosi as speaker is better than 8 years of the "HILABEAST" as President.

Tony
Conservatives do a lot of "stupid" things. we believe in charging hills that we have no chance of taking. We fight and die in places where our interests are not nearly as great as are the needs of the people we are protecting. We hear of a sodier falling selflessly on a grenade and we understand it. Conservatism is more than calculating shortterm advantages. it is a long term philosophy. It says that sometimes it is important to do something "stupid" to demonstrate to others that doing the honorable thing, like voting your conscience, is not always logical, easy or self-serving. We believe that approach ultimately wins the day.
In this case wihtholding a vote could be viewed as logical, self serving and honorable. here's why. 1. the time to expose and destroy the groundswell of Pelosi/Reid'ism is now. They have been hiding who they are and their presence is a constant threat to good policy. Our 50/50 electorate after a two year look at Nancy P and her over the top brood, will be disgusted in droves. 2. it would embolden conservative candidates to come out of the woodwork. 3. it would teach weak kneed conservatives that they need not apply and if you are one, look out because conservative voters are "crazy". They will risk safety, economy etc. for what Jimmy Stewart, not John Stuart Mill, called "lost causes". 4. A vote is the public's only weapon. We are given one round every few years. As i decide where to deposit mine i must consider the promises I made every day as I suffered through the headlines, muted the tv and cussed at the pompous John McCain and so many others, in front of my kids. 5. America will not come crashing down with democrats in power. It is built stronger than that. Because it was built by people that beieve in lost causes.

Pragmatic Desperation
Tony, people who turn to politics and away from God often are lured into the sort of frenzy you demonstrate. Liberals are defined by their rejection of God. They see themselves as inheritors of the universe and their actions are best understood in light of the fact that they see no God and are frantic to fix what they see as a broken universe.

Your rant against what you consider to be faithless Republicans shows you to have lost faith in your God. Is there no situation in which you would not vote? If you were faced with a Democratic candidate or a known child molester in the race for your district, would you vote for the child molester, just to stop a Democrat?

Consider the claim of Satan, “And he led Him up and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time. And the devil said to Him, "I will give You all this domain and its glory; for it has been handed over to me, and I give it to whomever I wish. – Luke 4:5-6

Political outcomes are not for us to control (that is what liberals do). We are called to do what is right and trust God to run the universe.

Tony, I would call a brother back to his Lord and hope that your faith can be restored. Your frustration is a measure of how far your faith has been eroded. When your faith is removed from the transient (politics) to the eternal (your Lord), your frustration level should diminish.

Don't buy the hype
I think all these polls that show the Dems are locks to take back Congress are cooked. Many polls have actually been shown to be skewed Democrat in terms of number of people polled. Anybody remember "Gore wins Florida" of how about the oh-so-accurate exit polling of the '06 presidential election?

Here's another one: Bush's approval
rating is in the low 40s and Congress's approval is in the 20s; which is EXACTLY where they were during the '04 election when Republicans GAINED seats in both Houses. Anybody else remember that?

Can someone explain to me how Bush's approval was in the low 40s in every poll the week of the election yet he got 51% of the ACTUAL vote? Can someone explain that difference (polls vs. reality), please? My explanation is this: the polls are rigged. But if someone has a better explanation I'd love to here it.

There are 2 other factors to consider next November: (1) WHO exactly is being polled. If the Republicans that say they aren't going to vote come from blue states that the Dems will win anyway or from Red States that the Republicans will win anyway (even with smaller turnout) then those respondants won't affect the real outcome.

(2) Congressional seats are REGIONAL. A West Virginia Congressman's sexual advances aren't going to affect a race in Idaho or Nebraska. Each seat that's on the line is being dealt with on the local level by the needs of each individual state. There is no way you can put all those variables into one all-encompassing poll and have it be accurate.

Want more proof that these polls are rigged? During the debates in the '04 election one of the networks had a panel of "undecided" voters watch the debate and got their "neutral" reactions. One of the "undecideds" had her name and town listed in a newspaper article the next day. Rush Limbaugh got a hold of her on his radio show and it turned out that this "undecided" voter was a retiree that was originally from San Francisco who voted for Clinton twice and Gore in 2000... Yet for the networks' "scientific" polling purposes she's considered "undecided"? (sigh)

To close let me just say, don't trust the polls. Do what you want, vote how you want and don't get discouraged. As a conservative this is a win/win. Either the Reps will win or 2 years of Speaker Pelosi will GUARANTEE a Republican sweep in '08! Think glass-half-full! :-)

Here's a weird thought: what if all the "Dems have it in the bag" coverage of this election makes Dems complacent and makes them not show up? Think about it... how may Reps saw the early exit polling where Kerry was up said "No way!" and RAN to the polls? How many Dems
saw that polling and said "I don't have to go vote, Kerry's winning anyway."? I think if the Dems, pollsters, and the media want a Democrat win, then the polling should show the Republicans up 7 or 8 points. hehe

Not stupid, farsighted
Hi,
Mr. Blankley, I am a great fan of your writing, and nearly unanimous in my support for all your positions on politics, so it is odd for me to write in opposition to your column today.

I am one of the "Stay at home" voters you accuse of being Stupid, and I would like to tell you the reasons why I intend to stay home, and perhaps persuade you that it is not a stupid act.

I have voted in every election since Reagan ran against Carter, and never missed a vote since. I have always voted Republican, even when I had to hold my nose to do it - so this is not laziness, and I can assure you - it is not ignorance of the consequences that moves me to stay home.

My decision is based on logic, and a calculated risk, in hopes of a far greater outcome in future.

* This year, Congressmen and Senators will be elected, but not the President, so even with a full sweep, the Democrats will not control this country in War, or even all that much domestically. (The President "can" veto anything substantially against his views, though you wouldn't know it, so far.)

* In the event of a full sweep, Democrats will make fools of themselves for all to see. Deluded into believing they are true gods, they will finally tip their hands to the whole country, and finally be forced state a real position on something - other than that they hate Bush.

* We're all in agreement that the Republicans in Congress and the Senate are out of control, power mad, wasteful, deceitful, and they are going against the wishes of the very people who put them in office on waaay too many policies to mention. Other than degrees, there is no real difference in what will happen, no matter who wins, and since there is No way to remove an Incumbent Republican, except to allow a Democrat to win, I am forced to allow that to happen.

* I will not vote for a Democrat, and it is my hope that in sitting out this one time, rather than voting for the opposition, it will be obvious to Republicans running that I did not switch parties, I simply did not see a Republican on the ballot. It is a calculated risk that the next set of candidates on the Republican ballot in 2008 will be real Republicans, and not just more RINO's.

* The Presidential election in 2008 is wildly more important than one mid-term Congressional election. Current Front Runners are John McCain, Rudy Giuliani, and ever more RINO's. A message needs to be sent ASAP that this will not fly. I will never vote again, if my only choices are for Democrats, or Democrats running as Republicans.

Please know that I am fully aware of the damage the Democrats can do to this country, and am horrified that this is my only option.

I have written to my representatives repeatedly, on Immigration matters, and other policies of vital importance to me, and this country as a whole. I was responded to in a devious manner, with assurances that agreement was held by all. Then I found that voting patterns for my representatives and all of Congress were completely contrary to what I was led to believe.

I frimly believe that if the current Republicans win again, while being as corrupt and deceitful as they have been to their constituants, they will be even more emboldened, and my desire for meaningful representation will be completely dismissed from now on. If they win, There will be millions more illegals in this country legally - and voting. There will be no attempt to stop ever more from coming. Taxes will be raised, and the war will continue to be prosecuted with limp wrists, and whiney hand wringing over hurting the terrorists feelings. All those things will come to pass, regardless of who wins this time, so the only thing I can hope for, is the 2008 election candidates.

I believe that these con men need to be removed, to make room for men of honor, who will actually represent the will of the people who elected them. If not out of honor, then out of fear of being tossed out. I don't like it, but I can live with it.

All I ask of you, is that you not treat me as being frivolous or stupid, when there is nothing frivolous or stupid about my choice,

Sincerely, Karen M.

PS I'm kind of at a loss to see how you can blindly vote Republican, when the Republicans are so clearly taking your vote for granted, and going after those voters who are not Republican. They can take me for granted, thinking I have no choice but to vote for them - or a worse Democrat, but they will have made a mistake. I have a third option. I can stay home.

They need to learn that lesson now, and this is the time to teach it.

Why?
Why would a true Conservative (I am one) want to give the left wing a chance to reverse the paltry few conservative gains made during the Bush administration … and the opportunity to replace up to three Supreme Court Justices?

Why did Conservatives stay home from the primary polls, which couild have yielded a better crop of candidates?

Why did Conservatives not make their voices heard over the last twelve years (since the 1994 Republican takeover of Congress) on legislators' voice mail, e-mail, and snail mail?

Why have Conservatives let dillitantes like Kathrine Harris get away with calling themselves "conservative?"

The Republican Party has been hijacked by moderates amd political opportunists, because conservatives have been off somewhere declaring their dogmatic purity and decrying the evils of government.

Now, we are faced with the lesser of evils. The question is: Will Conservative voters show up and elect candidates they have a chance to influence, or will they stay home, pouting like petulant children?

The right to vote constitutes the right to gripe; if you didn't do the former, you lost your right to do the latter. If you stay home on election day because the Republican candidates are not conservative enough, please keep your trap shut when the socialist programs begin to roll out of the Democrat Congress!

Blankley is flacking for the GOP...
...not conservatives. His argument fails on numerous points, the most obvious of which is his “either or” proposition. According to Blankley’s reasoning, the GOP only has to stay to the right of the Dems (no matter how slightly) in order to warrant continued fealty from their conservative base. Under this strategy, as the Dems drift further left, so would the GOP, thereby scooping up every castoff from the Dem’s right, with nary a defection to be expected from its own right.

This might be a plausible strategy, if your goal is merely to preserve GOP dominance (and assuming you can bamboozle the conservatives into buying it), but it sucks as a prescription for advancing conservative principles. Only the threat (and follow-through, if need be) of nonsupport will ensure that conservative interests are taken seriously. If conservatives buy into this nonsense of throwing their votes to the GOP, regardless of its ambivalence to their interests, they will soon be as taken for granted as the black vote is to the Democratic Party.

Roll Out the Evil!!!
It's looking more and more like it matters not whom one votes for. Take Governor Romney for intance. He did nothing to stop gay marriage, in fact he worked with a gay attorney to make it happen. Go to Hadley Arkes, read the missing Govenor. Govenor Romney is also promising a vote to keep marriage; one man and one woman. I have my doubts about that, probably a promise to keep the religious right happy. It does seem apparent that the political system is already fixed into the position of bigger goverment and big bussiness. More and more drugs, for all more and more sex for all. Even our children are being sexualized through our tax dollars and the rights of parents are being flatly denied. Soon Man will be a beast, that God himself will not tolerate. When you think of it, do you really have any faith in the promises of politicains??? Even if they hold a promise in theri heart, another system is already in place. The evil will contiune to roll, as the wars of the world rage on. Only untill God puts his wrath on mankind will man be held accountable.

A Day Late and a Dollar Short
If ensuring conservative turnout on election day was so important to the GOP, then why didn't they better tend to their interests when they had the chance? If anyone in this political drama is stupid, it's the polital hacks who thought they could stick it to the people that put them in office and still expect to retain their support when their treachery was exposed.

Blankley
who I agree with most of the time, by resorting
to name-calling has sunken to the level of many
on the left. He is further fracturing an already
fractured party. He has taken to task people
who have values and principles that are just as
important to them as his are to him.

REVOLT!
Tony assumes that as a conservative I may well stay home for this election but he would be wrong. I do intend to vote but I will not be voting republican like I have in every election for the last 20 years. No, this time every vote I cast will be for the democrat or for the libertarian if one is available.

If the (R)s think they can spend like drunken sailors, ignore the immigrant invasion and trample The Constitution and still get my vote they are sorely mistaken.

I would encourage other conservatives to do the same and throw these bastards out of office. If we let them get away with it, just like misbehaving children, they will continue to misbehave.

I want my party back! And turning Congress over to the Dems for a term is the only way that is going to happen.

Feeling good vs. being in power
I applaud this column even though I'm a liberal Democrat. The argument--made by ideological purists both right and legt--that there are times when it is better not to vote--is unimpressive. You can't beat something with nothing, and non-voting is precisely nothing when it comes to having influence over what government does.

The only way conservatives can either become office-holders or influence office-holders is to vote Republican, early and often as we say in Massachusetts. Ideologues like to imagine that if they hold their political breath [I can't very well say 'until they turn blue,' for obvious reasons] that they are having an effect on politics. They are. They're contributing to the victory of their opponent.

The Republicans have a tremendous ability--hard-won and well-financed--to get out the vote. Conservatives who want any of their views represented should be among those gotten out.

If you consider yourself too pure for mere politics, that's fine by me. As a liberal I certainly prefer fewer conservative voters, but as someone who still has something of an old-fashioned belief in the worth of competitive parties and the electoral process, I'll actually encourage all you right-wingers to vote. [I'd never thought I'd be giving a civics lesson to conservatives, but they need it every bit as much as the left does.]

Yo songsmith
I'm sure conservative Romans thought the same way prior to their civilization falling. Although their downfall took a long time, liberalism was a big contributor. The point is, there are those (largely on the left) who want this country to fail. Those of us who see the founding principles worth saving, do not want to lose any more than have already been eroded. While America may not fall after two years of democratic rule, they have graphically shown their disregard for the safety of our citizens, and original constitutional interpretation. Additionally, they have in fact sided with our enemies during a time of war (yes we are in a war), instead of defeating them. If you are conservative who is not going to vote, you are still voting for the other party, which is o.k. if you like their ideas. Do you?

rummy said it best
You don't go to battle with the army you wish you had, you go with the one you do.

The constitution party looks pretty good, but I will not be a accomplice to the socialists getting a larger foothold in the Congress.

I don't get it
If you are fighting a war, and fighting it to win, you don't fight for the other side. When I was a prosecutor, my boss told me to "remember which boat I'm in". It was a way of telling me not to hinder my own case by trying to make sure the defense case got made. Let the Dems make their own case. We don't have to make it for them. If any of you think that turning over the House to the Dems for two years will insure a Republican victory in '08 and "teach" the party a thing or two, you must be prescient. All I can see is two years of investigations and threats of impeachment while the government grinds to a halt like it did during the Clinton impeachment. Is that something you want to be a part of? George does not deserve this. I, for one, will be voting Republican in November.

Right on, Sandman
I've been warning the Republicans via this BB for quite a long time now. Do something about the borders, or look for another job. They chose to do nothing.

I resent the implication that I am abandoning the republicans by not voting. THEY have abandoned ME. They have to EARN my vote, and they haven't.

They restricted our free speech (McCain Feingold).
They made the Federal gov't more involved in the education of our children (No Child Left Behind).
They increased the size of gov't (Prescription Drugs).
They RAISED our taxes (How else are they going to pay for those prescription drugs?).
They've left us vulnerable to terrorists (open borders).
They've allowed foreign gov'ts to take control over our port and railway operations (UAE).
They've allowed the Mexican invasion to continue (open borders).
They are shipping our jobs over seas (outsourcing, NAFTA, crushing regulations/taxes).
They are trying to destroy our sovergnty (Security and Prosperity Partnership - North American Union).
They are corrupted (Abramoff, Cunningham, Nea, et al).

And all you've got is that the Democrats would be WORSE????? Then we're screwed anyway!!

Like Sandman said, if they wanted our votes, why didn't they try sticking to their principles? I know why. Because they wanted big businesses money more. And they sold the American people down the river for it.

But don't worry Tony, they've done a bang up job of gerrymandering the districts, so they should come out OK in the end. It's not like most of the races are even close to being competetive anyway. The game is rigged.

You made your bed...
I would rather suffer through two years (and possibly more) of Democratic control in Congress, if it would increase the long term prospects of a return to conservative principle by the GOP, than to preserve the status quo. The present situation is intolerable. Since change from within (i.e. the primaries)has been taken off the table by the GOP with its scortched-earth, incumbent support strategy, it is they who have set the table for their own ouster.

Why Send the Wrong Message
Stupid would be to give a stamp of approval on the pathetic job our so-called "conservative" Republicans have done for the last 6 years. They might take Rush's vote, and Hannity's vote for granted but I'm sick and tired of the Republican neocrats taking mine for granted. Why would any conservative want to vote for these phoney hypocrites, sending a message that we like what they're doing? How stupid can that be Tony? I'm with BrianR, tanabear, Harry, QParker, songsmith, KM and SandMan! Although I haven't missed a vote in 40+ years - and I won't miss this one - there won't be any Republicrats at any level getting my vote. And there won't be any Democrats getting it either. There are Constitution Party and Libertarian candidates out there.

Incompetent - Cowardly - Corrupt
At one point in his column Mr. Blankley makes reference to the Republicans as the party who are "at least trying" to promote small government and conservative values. Well, the Republicans have had control of the Presidency and both Houses of Congress for going on 6 years now, so what's the problem? As I see it, there are three possible reasons for their failure: 1) the majority of them are incompetent, 2) the majority of them are cowards and/or 3) the majority of them are corrupt.

Any one of the three is more than enough reason to remove each and every one of them from office.

The only problem is, from past experience I already KNOW that the majority of Democrat politicians are ALL THREE.

I have reluctantly decided to hold my nose and vote for the Republicans this time. It almost makes me feel like I am endangering my very soul, but I will do it.

On the other hand...
Rockman, Sandman and Chromedome make excellent points.

The Republicrats HAVE abandoned us; and there ARE Libertarian and Constitution Party candidates on the ballot in my Commonwealth...

I guess I'll be making my final choice while I am standing at the "voting machine" (ballot box sounds so much better).

Get with the program Blankley
Rather than hurling epithets at the foot soldiers of the conservative movement for not following its failed leaders over the cliff, Blankley’s energies would be better applied toward identifying the next generation of conservative GOP leadership. Those of us who are committed to conservative principle will return to fight another day, but it will not be for the current presumptive claimants to our loyalties. My people have survived on this continent for centuries, and we will be here long after the current crop of sky-will-fall-if-you-don’t-vote-for-me types are returned to their home districts. So get cracking Blankley and stop your belly-aching, or you may find yourself consigned to the same scrapheap of irrelevance that our ruddlerless GOP leaders are heaping for themselves!

John Stuart Mill also wrote
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself.

I will swallow my distaste and vote for the Repubs because of our brave soldiers. They deserve better than they'll get from the libs should they seize power.

Slap yourself in the face!
"Principles" are intellectual exercises, actions make a difference!

Voting for a liberal democrat -- or worse, an unelectable libertarian -- because the republican isn't conservative enough is tatamount to self-flagellation; it accomplishes nothing except inflicting pain on yourself.

Do you want to effect change?

1. Start working TODAY to organize conservatives in your district. Bolcs of constituents carry more weight when communicating with elected officials. Communicate regularly with elected officials; be polite but firm.

2. Identify and encourage conservative candidates for future elections; then, get actively involved in getting them elected.

Convert your "principles" into action for future change. But for now, don't turn the henhouse over to the foxes. Two years hence, you might find it empty!

Not voting to show disgust
Tony Blankley makes a good point. If you are a conservative, you have to vote for the more conservative candidate. Allowing the Democrats to get control of the government will only make things MUCH worse. The ideal thing would have been to be able to get a true conservative to oppose the incumbent in the primaries. If you have an incumbent Republican who has not done the things that you support, vote for them anyway to keep the Democrat out, then start writing and phoning their offices (both Senators and your member of the House) and let them know you voted for them to keep the Demo out and let them know how you feel on the issues and if they want your continued support, they better support your position.

Staying home insures a Dem win
Don't stay home, conservatives. This "punishment" philosophy didn't do us ANY GOOD when Republicans "punished" GHW Bush for going back on his "no new taxes" promise. PLEASE look what happened when we punished him for that broken promise --- 8 YEARS OF BUBBA!

Our country was hurt enormously by the Socialist governing of the lying president Clinton.

You think it will only be 2 years of Nancy Pelosi? Incombency has built-in protections, and it could turn into 20 years of House punishment.

This is THE DEMOCRATS' GAME. THEY KNOW THEY WILL WIN IF THEIR OPPONENTS DON'T SHOW UP.

Please don't let that happen. It will not just hurt Republican representatives, but will hurt OUR ENTIRE COUNTRY.

To "not ashamed"
"I don't get it. Why do conservatives think that by not voting, and thereby allowing the Congress Republican majority to be lost, think they are doing this country a favor?"

I don't care whether whoever reads this is Right or Left, but I know one thing for certain: Those who don't vote only put more power into the hands of those who do. It's cutting off your nose to spite your face.

If usual election trends continue this year, I'm going to be out casting my 4 or 5 votes. That's one real one for me and 3 or 4 virtual votes for me representing the people who didn't vote.

And my dad (local politician) taught me a long time ago: If you don't vote, don't complain (he actually used the B-word).

In defense of Bush I
"This "punishment" philosophy didn't do us ANY GOOD when Republicans "punished" GHW Bush for going back on his "no new taxes" promise."

He had no choice. Congress had him over a barrel. Refusing to sign the budget would have shut down the government in short order if my memory serves me correctly. As I remember this was October and we'd been without a budget since July and were keeping the gov't going on emergency spending bills.

Bush's mistake was trying to equivocate with "It's still no new taxes, we're just raising old ones" argument. I realized what he was trying to say ("Blame Congress"), but what he said was an insult to my intelligence. I was behind him until that point. That's where he lost me.

Stay Home For The Good Of The USA
Or Vote democratic. There is ample evidence that the country was much better off during the Clinton administration - maybe due to the fact that there was a Republican Congress providing oversight. Surplus budget, shrinking government, unprecedented economic expansion, shrinking poverty and unemployment. My “local politics” experience was one of incredible workflow. I compare that with the stagnant environment that surrounded me growing up in a medium sized midwestern town during the Reagan years (20% unemployment, the streets suddenly filled with the mentally-ill homeless due to cutbacks). For those of you who are “values voters” I don’t know what to say other than the Catholic church I attend weekly is mostly Democratic and they/we are some of the most kind, faithful self sacrificing group of people you could want to meet. Surprising to some, I think that a lot of the conservative agenda makes sense. But experience tells me that those things rarely work as well as the do on paper. So try to sift through the “liberal, socialist, amoral” rhetoric for the good of the country.

hntr admin: Yeah
Sometimes these guys really get me wound up, but good advice. Thanks.

However, to those who see doom and gloom if the Dems take one or both houses in November, let me remind you that no matter what, Bush will still be sitting in the White House, and will have hopefully remembered where he stashed his veto pen.

No way do the Dems take a veto-proof majority anywhere. So all we end up with is two years of gridlock at worst, and frankly I don't think that's such a bad thing, given what the Reps have been doing in Congress lately.

Mr. Blankley is right.
The comments here show how effective the MSM has been with their “Get Bush” campaign for the past six years. All you “all take my ball and go home” conservatives posting here, just which of these Democrats that you will vote for, have ever voted for less Government, lower taxes, better security on the border, better education , family values? And just which of the Democrats in office vote independently from their leadership? All you really need to elect is one Democrat, they all vote the same, regardless of what they say while on TV.

The DOW just passed 12000, New Housing Starts up 6% and every Democrat says that we have to fix the worst economy in history. And what about the Democrats and Liberty? Have you noticed the reaction from the Dems to Military Tribunals? They insist that terrorists must have all the constitutional rights that US Citizens have.

November is not the time to “show them”. That is done in primary elections, where the damage is limited to individual contestants, not when you will destroy the nation. Remember Ross Perot brought us Bill Clinton. That lasted a little longer then 24 months. And if you think they can not or will not attempt to hold back funds for our military, you weren’t around during the Vietnam war and /or you have not paid attention to Charley Rangle .

Left Nut, you are named right!
You are completely off your rocker. The reason things were great during the Clinton era had absolutely nothing to do with Slick Willie the cigar cat poking idiot being in the oval orifice. He sat and ejoyed 8 years of prosperity cause by Reaganomics. He didn't do anything but screw around a lot, and screw up everything including the hunt for Bin Laden. He didn't fix anything.
His cutbacks of the military may have balanced the budget but it led to a very small military to fight against Saddam and company.
Our National Guard units are paying the price for that error. If Nancy Pelosi becomes Speaker, God help us. I have spoken to several disheartened GOP voters and even though they are not totally happy with President Bush, and they GOP candidates they fully recognize what danger lies with a bunch of liberal left wing apeasers.
Why do you even read conservative posts? Unless of course, you are not a little scared of what your party is trying to put into office anyway?

Democrats Vote on Wednesday
Democrats, You are invited to vote on wednesday November 8, and on that day they can vote like they did last time, multiple times as long as they are not stuffing ballot boxes that they are recounting due to their stupid replay of a Key Largo scene.

To all the fed up conservatives
I am voting this year-- and living in NY that's not an easy thing to do. But to all you conservatives out there trying to teach those wayward Republicans a lesson, the lesson they may take away may not be the lesson you intended to send. Many Republicans in my area are soft-republicans or RINOs. Mostly because they are convinced that this is how they win elections. Why? Because most of my right leaning friends who would vote Republican sit home year after year and do not vote at all. "They're all the same. You can't trust any of them anyway. The fix is in" etc...

The result is that we have a governor's race where over half of the population (probably closer to 70%) do not even know who the Republican candidate for governor is. Big surprise he's down over 35 points. No wonder Hillary does so well here.

Anyway my point is: don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good. I too wish we had more principled leaders in Washington. But let's deal with what we have while we work together at creating something better in the future. Look at the country. The Dems are winning the war of words and they're shaping the debate. If we give them control of the government as well I don't see us recovering any time soon-- if at all.

Knock the smirk off Bush's face
Someone ought to have explained to Mr. Blankley that vinegar is no way to change people's minds on such an issue during these dire times. If Blankley had led off admitting George Bush's failures as a president and as a conservative, he might have succeeded in altering opinions. But this column of vile insults wrapped in poison is self-defeating and foolish. I wonder how much alcohol Tony poured down his throat while jamming his fingers at his computer keyboard.

The historic American nation is in danger of destruction at the hands of Mr. Bush, John McCain, Big Business and, of course, the Democratic Party. Let no one tell you otherwise. If the condition at the border remains as it is, the historic USA will be fractured and destroyed by next century. The only two plausible ways to alter that future is 1) the House Republicans get their way on border protection and illegal alien crackdown or 2) an economic downturn of longlasting depth occurs that makes the 3rd World migration to the USA a worthless endeavor for years to come and stops it to a trickle. Right now, I am not sure which is the better way to end 3rd World immigration- a Republican House to stave off our enemies or a Democratic government which would lead us to economic ruin.

Behind the facade of Christian humility, George W. Bush is an arrogant, swaggering plutocrat. The smirk of which he is famous is real, a mirror to his inner soul. For his contempt for the historic American nation and his setting back conservatism a generation, that smirk needs to be wiped off his face. Yeah, he needs two years of subpoennas from the likes of Waxman, Obey, Conyers, Miller and Dingell. He needs to be impeached and convicted. He deserves to be forced to resign in disgrace.

But do we deserve it?

voting choices
I'll be voting Republican in every race except two:

Sen. Mike DeWine (R-OH) is such a pathetic RINO that he doesn't deserve to keep serving. He votes against the Republicans on many of the issues that matter to me, anyway. I don't know how to get a better candidate other than to have him voted out -- the party will never put in a real alternative as long as he is the incumbent. I'm by no means a fan of Sherrod Brown, but what am I to do? Wait until DeWine retires, maybe 20 years from now?

The Republican candidate for Ohio Attorney General, Betty Montgomery is extremely anti-gun. I can't support her candidacy.

I vote for individuals, not parties. All the Republicans have to do to keep my vote is give me individuals that uphold conservative principles.

They get Comfy!!!
They speak one way and act on another. Truth be told politicains only get motivated just before elections, then they run in circles, promising the world, delivering very little in return. I am sorry to say the political agenda is lip service with a smile, behind the scene is something of a nightmare. Even our conservative politicains are pro-choice. This leaves no room for God fearing people. Might as well send a message of truth, not worth my vote. Amen!!!!

Please people
I know the field is corrupted, but you must remember our military. They need us now more than ever. We can't let them down. Rangel has already said he would hold up funding for the troops. and you know that means another blood bath, so hold your nose and vote Republican. Send emails telling them they are out at the next primary if they don't get back to conservative values. And them do it/vote them out at the primaries.

The stupid in me
I asked the prettiest girl in the class to the dance and she accepted. At the dance she told everyone I was a square, a nerd and couldn't kiss or dance, even a square one. Then she dances with all the other boys. I asked her out again next Friday because she's the prettiest girl in the class. The other girls in the class are all dogs, stink, have zits, lie and gossip.
I gave my money to my neighbor, the banker because he said it would be safe and he'd pay me interest. He built a new building and charged me fees equaling more than my interest. Then he borrowed my money to pay the contractor and wrote me an IOU but dropped the interest he paid me to be able to pay the contractor loan he took out. I gave him more of my money because he's my neighbor and he says he'll do better next time. My other neighbor is a thief. He dresses better.
I went to my doctor because I was sick. He gave me the wrong medicine and it made me worse so I went back to him becaue he's MY doctor. Then I got a staff infection because he came back from a cookout, in a hurry to save me from the bad medicine he gave me and forgot to wash his hands. I went to him again..because he's really really trying hard. The other Dr. in town is a witch doctor.
I went to a really chic restaurant and ordered an exotic and expensive meal. It is the best place in town. The waiter spilled my drink on me. The food was cold and I got food poisoning from it and the bill was inflated with an expected tip of 30%. I went back there next weekend with the prettiest girl in the class because it's the best in town, so they say. The other restaurant in town serves raw meat and parched veggies cooked on the ground in coal.
I bought a new car. Guaranteed warranty as long as I owned the car. The air bags failed to deploy and I died. If I could I'd go back there and get that fantastic warranty honored. The other car dealership in town still sells that old tried and true Fred Flintstone mobile. It doesn't use any oil.

I'm so stupid.
I should just stay home.

Not Stupid?

.....km.....you "are" voting for a Democrat (Liberal Agenda) when you withold your vote for a (Conservative)....

......if you think your representative is not conservative enough you can unite with like minded friends and deluge his office with emails and letters expressing your displeasure...

.....you can campaign with your friends for a more conservative opponent in the primaries...

.....if the Liberals take control of Congress they will advance their agenda (Pro-abortion - pro-gun control - pro-taxes - etc) and they will stymie the agenda of conservatives...they will make it easier for a Democrat to be elected President in '08...are you willing to run that risk?...

.....try to imagine Hillary in the White House and three openings on the Supreme Court during her term...the Court already leans left 4-5...try to imagine what three more Baby Ruth Ginsbergs will do to this Country...

.....I think you "let's teach'em a lesson" fair-weather Republicans are playing with fire and are willing to burn down the House on the off chance that you will get a better one the next time....

.....you can't win by losing...that strategy is flawed and plays right into the hands of the Liberals.....COLOSSUS

I did that LAST time

That's what I've been doing for the past 6 years!!! They haven't been listening.
They no longer deserve my support.
They will not GET my support.
They will get what they deserve.
Hopefully that will be a bus ticket home....one way.

Be Responsible
I basically agree with Tony. By not voting Conservatives and Republicans (understandably not always the same) will ensure the Democrats take control and take us all down the wrong road.

The best approach, in my view, is to vote Republican and than, if and when they win, hold their feet to the fire and force them to follow their principles. Over the past two years I've been writing my representatives and the White House whenever they do something I don't agree with or don't do anything at all, such as using the Presidential Veto or challenging earmarks. IF we all would get off our duffs and focus on the issues and react other than only at election time, we might have an impact.

By choosing to be passive we are allowing others to write our future and then we complain. Let's start to take responsibility for this mess and make our representatives toe the line.

No thanks, we're stupid
I didn't vote when Clinton was a candidate because I was damned if I'd vote for a moderate Republican ... got 8 years of one of the most corrupt disgusting con-men to ever reside in the White House who did more damage to my country than even a Rino could do. This grandmother will NEVER be so pig-headed again -- not voting was the dumbest, most stupid thing I've ever done as a conservative and I'm not ashamed to admit my stupidity.

I learned the hard way that the place to work against Rinos candidates in the Republican Party is in the PRIMARIES. It takes time getting good true conservative candidates a win, but it's been done and will continue to be done. The patience necessary in this department is excruciatingly painful at times, but this grandma is finally learning to be patient and to support conservative primary candidates with money or any other way I can. In the meantime, I, and others, write letters and scream our lungs out at sitting Republicans who don't adhere to conservative principles.

DeWine, Chaffee, Collins, etc. etc. make me want to throw up, but I'll be damned if I'll ever vote for a Democrat by NOT voting for a Republican. More conservative candidates puts necessary pressure on the Rinos. We conservatives have come a long, long way in becoming a major battle voice against liberals, socialists and Marxists. I, for one, will not give up now and lose the war. It's the striving and never giving up that gets us conservatives closer and closer to bringing about what we want.

Hold your nose and VOTE AGAINST THE DEMS ... and pay attention to those primary races from now on, even when your own party works against you as it did in the Chaffee primary.

I still count the noise we made regarding getting two conservative judges on the Supreme Court as a major win during this Republican administration. Do you think we'd get another conservative judge with more Democrat idiots serving in Congress for the next two to six years? And what about the war against Islamic Facists? Are more Democrats in Congress going to help us win that war? Better think hard and long and hard on that one too.

Tony's right ... don't let your anger in the moment make you do something stupid! Make that anger work for you and your fellow conservatives.

Not Voting
I will not vote for ANY Republican who ia an abortionist. If conservatives/ Republicans want to continue the genocidal murder of millions of unborn people then you deserve to be ruled by destructive liberals.

Republicans are spending like drunken Democrats. They have not cracked down on the hiring of illegal invaders. Once these invaders are allowed to vote the socialists will rule forever. Our prosperity will disappear. This is the future because Republicans are acting like Democrats.

On a lighter note
Warrior wrote:

"This is Democrat thinking--or not thinking--they want Constitutional protections for non-US citizen terrorist so the terrorist can better keep secret how they plan to kill the citizens of this country."

Hey! Maybe we've finally found Democratic support for the 2nd Amendment - when guns are in the hands of non-U.S. citizens and pointed at U.S. citizens!

Stay Home For The Good Of The Military
Or vote Democratic. Every military spending bill is packed with earmarks under this Republican Congress. Rumsfeld ignored the planning for Iraq of the military commanders. The “army he has” is the army he created - smaller more tech and agile- that he took credit for in Afghanistan and tried to distance himself from in Iraq. Also he purposely kept it small to be an easier sell to the American people. Then there is the matter of the tax cuts for the… ok I won’t say it but they don’t reach me and I make over 100k. With those in place it makes it impossible to be sufficiently armed without destroying the budget. Lastly and most importantly Bush failed to gain full support of the country going into war because he refused to have national debate on the true purpose of going to war - to establish a strategic base of operations in the Middle East. A tough sell to be sure but, an honest one. Instead he co-opted 9/11 to rush into war for reasons that seemed suspect at the time and were quickly disproved and discredited. The past 6 years has not been very good for U.S. military.

Cloudbuster
As much as I insist on everyone voting, I just can't bring myself to tell a Republican to actually pull the lever for a democrat in disguise like DeWine.

Tab
Sir,
In your column of 10/4/06 you presented an argument as to why Hastert must go. Your argument was based upon the importance of ethics. To quote you "How in the world will Republicans be able to champion our values in the future if we weasel and excuse the cover-up of such conduct in one of our own?”
Pardon me if I find that your product of today and that of 10/4 are not in agreement.
Or...is it proper to apply such logic when reducing the argument to one individual who lapsed in his judgment, but to forgive en masse the foul corrupt body who holds us, the conservatives, in nothing less than utter contempt. If you must assess blame sir, let it start at the desk of Bush, for as we all know feces, as with corruption and cronyism, flows down hill.
Perhaps the K Street boys can even scrape up enough money to buy a few million votes to keep the good times rolling.

I am but one lowly peon who still believes in core values and ideals. I am fed up. I have had it with Bush and his Amnesty. He, just like his daddy, could not resist stabbing the Conservative base in the back. It’s genetic you know. I am disgusted with the RNC; it is more corrupt than Congress! Don’t like it the situation we find in DC today? Look to Bush. He set the pace.

Can and Will vote for a Conservative
I CAN and WILL vote to re-elect a fiscal and social "conservative" to the U. S. House of Representatives! More surprisingly, he's from New Jersey!! Congressman Scott Garrett (R-NJ-5) is, in fact, one of the ten best in the House of Representatives.

If you don't have this privilege to vote for a candidate with Scott Garrett’s principles and the courage of his convictions, then listen up!

Garrett’s election became a fact because he/we beat back a 20-year, pro-abort RINO incumbent after "3" primary races. He/we didn't give up! We were in it for the long haul, not just the temporal. This battle is for the tenacious and not the faint of heart, but the fight’s necessary if conservatives are truly passionate about salvaging their country.

My favorite t-shirt boldly announces: “Only the strong survive in New Jersey.” In the Garrett election(s), that motto became real. But, what happened in New Jersey can become just as real in other blue states like Massachusetts, Wisconsin, Oregon, New Mexico, Hawaii, as well any red, liberal leaning, RINO state in the USA, too. That may not be as successful for a Senate race, since we only get that chance every six years, (see next post), but it is possible for a seat in the House.

No matter what you do this Election Day, or what the outcome, start NOW to find a Garrett type candidate. Then, for the next two years, maybe four, maybe six, you run with him or her against that RINO or Leftie until you, too, *can* and *will* be able to vote for a fiscal and social conservative on Election Day!

Cloudbuster
Right now in my area of the state we have two Democrats who simply ooze conservative values in all their ads and debates, so this would supposedly support your argument for voting for an individual. Based on what I have seen in the past a Democrat candidate can say he or she supports conservative beliefs but when that person gets to Washington it is a 98-100% turn around for liberal values and having to toe the the party line. I used to fall for that "individual vote" idea too until I saw what happened after my vote helped more than a few Democrats get into office.

Well, if someone's...
... going to take my guns away, or let illegal aliens flood the country, or increase G spending, I don't care whether he has an "R" or a "D" behind his name.

I'm not voting for him. Period.

TB were not you the one?
TB weren't you the one who called for Hastert to resign?! Am I insane or just misremembering things? You said he should step down because of a pervert. This is the same as the Coach stepping down because one of his players is an idiot. Ridiculous. How did that reasoning Help Republicans? How was that reasoning NOT cutting off our nose to spite our face?

You actually do give good reasoning this time and I have changed my mind and will vote in Nov. But I don't see the congruity in asking a leader to step down for no good reason and then telling us that we are stupid because we don't want to vote for a party that is hapless and clueless and darn-near feckless.

Bob
Here in the PA 7th Cong. District I have also
written (hand and e-mail) my Representatives.
I've telephoned them. Not a response from any
of them. Now, close to elections, I hear from
them almost everyday looking for votes.

The People are not responsible for the problems
within the republican party. The party itself
is responsible for it's own problems.

Can't and Won't Vote for a RINO
I can’t and won’t vote for a RINO running for
U. S. Senate from NJ. Tom Kean, Jr. is tied at the hip to the Whitman/Kean wing of the GOP and he wouldn’t be running if it weren’t for his father’s moniker and millions. Conservatives ran a great candidate against him in the Primary, but we now have to wait six years for our next try. It will be harder to unseat a RINO six years from now if he’s an incumbent.

The question often asked, “Would I rather vote for Menendez?” reminds me of the question asked when Christine Todd Whitman ran against Florio (and won.) To both I answer an emphatic “NO” -- with explanation.

If Florio had won, (and I did not vote for either of them), he would have been contained within a Republican legislature, and Florio would have vetoed anything the GOP sent his way. It’s like treading water. Instead Whitman got every bad deal she wanted from the NJ-GOP Assembly and Senate. Worse, Whitman’s appointees to the NJ State Supreme Court earned NJ the dubious distinction of having the most “legislative” State Supreme Court in the country. In fact, it’s been proven that the Whitman Supremacists are far, far worse than the McGreevey appointees. Yes! Worse than McGreevey’s!!!!

To have a corrupt leftie in the Senate like Menendez is scary. But, to have a pandering RINO for 6, 12, 18, or more years in the Senate, and approving Whitmanesque Supremacists to the U. S. Supreme Court, and having the Whitman/Kean wing of the GOP fully take control of the party, is scarier still. (Menendez is so corrupt, he will eventually wind up in jail anyway.) President Bush, despite our concerns, should veto every Democratic measure put his way, (except immigration law and border control), to finally make the GOP look different than the opposition by 2008.

So, we tread water for two years, and remain on our knees, while finding and running with those candidates we can and will vote for in 2008 and beyond. But, in the meantime, I can’t and won’t vote for a RINO.

Stupid is as Stupid does
I've spoken to a few of these, "I don't like how things are going, so I'm taking my ball home," type conservatives.

Two things I note that are in common with these folks--first, they are reacting emotionally with a total absence of thought. "My Congressman spends too much money, hasn't done anything significant about the boarders, is a total wimp on pushing through conservative judges--so I'll teach him a lesson by voting Democrat!"

Trust me, notwithstanding all the flag waving by the Democrat candidate, a Democrat majority WILL raise taxes, WILL spend more, WILL open the boarders and WILL appoint judges--socialist to the point of being to the left of both Lenin or Mao.

It wasn't Roberts, Alito, Scalia, or Thomas that gave us Kelso or any of a number of "make-it-up- as-you-go" constitutional rulings...all of which have tendered more control of our lives to government and the liberal thought police.

The second truism I've observed, and perhaps a far more important observation,...VERY FEW of these petulant conservatives step forward and become involved in the party caucusing process or campaigning during primaries elections. It is as if the thought has yet to occur--the way to get a more conservative candidate is to promote one during the selection process. While it is true that incumbents do enjoy an advantage in the candidate selection process--they are far easier...and more often, unseated when conservatives become more engaged--not less, in party politics.

In college, one professor said something off-handedly that made a tremendous impression on me --"People in democracies generally get the kind of government they most deserve."

Fix your party in the primaries...
If you don't like RINOS, vote them out in the primaries, if you can. Then vote for your party in the general election.

Don't cut off your nose to spite your face.
Don't throw the baby out with the bath water.
Don't shoot yourself in the foot.

no vote
Not voting will put the most wicked into power. Good. This Nation needs an good dose of Divine Judgment.

Blankley Spot On.
The stakes are too high to let the obstinate "that'll teach 'em" rule the day.

Face it folks, in this system, a non-vote or third party vote is a defacto vote for Democrats. Period. Regardless of how poorly you think the conservative movement may have been served, remaining true to the movement still requires you vote for the party with a larger number of its advocates.

Until then bite the bullet, hold you nose a little tighter this time, and let your conscience guide you on that basis. And remember the adage; if you don't vote for the lesser of two evils, the bigger evil wins.

Also, think about this; the Dems hopes are pinned on the strategy of keeping you home on election day. In sitting this one out you are allowing yourself to be played by Democrats. This not only plays right into their hands, but also rewards their cynicism, and worse, makes us look as stupid as they think we are. I am tired of our ideological purists making us all look like idiots.

It's not about being played because we are all being played all the time - - it's called politics. It's about the collective integrity of the players. Not voting hinges on the hope some grown-ups might emerge from the Dem ranks and, judging by the leadership, that is a risk I am not willing to take.

And BrianR, dude, suggesting a columinist kill himself? Not exactly a Dale Carnegie graduate I take it. It must not have occurred to you that this might undermine any otherwise sound arguments you make. The next thing out your keyboard should be an apology or your credibility is gone.

Challenge to Mr. Blankley
Okay, Tony.
You have now lectured the conservatives not to "...dis the party that better advances conservative principles in government"

As SandMan said: "If your goal is advancing conservative principles...."

How about writing an Open Letter column to the incumbent GOP to tell them what they need to do (or change) to deserve the conservative vote in the upcoming election?

A suggestion. Perhaps you might point out to them how "stupid" it is to expect the conservative vote when they act like anything but conservatives.

Write that column and let's see how the incumbents respond.

Repub/Con Fear Dems In Control of Gov?.
I find it utterly hillarious, unbelievable, and insulting, at the same time, that repubs/cons actually think that if democrats regain control of congress and the presidency it will be the destruction of and end of the United States as we know it.

What massive egos you repubs/cons have..My God.

Heres a sampling of the comments in here:

"While turning over the Congress to the Pelosi/Kennedy mob for even two years would be recklessly irresponsible -- particularly during a dangerous war-- there is no assurance the wilderness years would last only 24 months."

"This current conservative petulance -- if it actually occurs on Nov. 7 -- will increase the chances of electing Hillary, or worse (if such a thing is possible) in 2008."

"There is no rational policy or political basis for conservatives not voting. I'm not sure the country can take the current Democratic mob in power for long."

"try to imagine Hillary in the White House and three openings on the Supreme Court during her term...the Court already leans left 4-5...try to imagine what three more Baby Ruth Ginsbergs will do to this Country"

"November is not the time to “show them”. That is done in primary elections, where the damage is limited to individual contestants, not when you will destroy the nation. Remember Ross Perot brought us Bill Clinton. That lasted a little longer then 24 months."

These comments are patently absurd. I'll take the 8 years of Bill Clinton over the 8 years of
Bush II anyday. there is no comparison.

If the U.S. can take 8 years of President Bush and the Republican Congress, who have done more to damage the reputation of our country worldwide, we can surely deal with whatever democrats have to offer. It cant get any worse than it already is.

yo Ralph
Not a liberal. Where did you get that. The "lost causes" phrase was from Jimmy Stewart in the movie Mr. Smith goes to Washington. He was fighting for principles. He was standing up against overwhelming odds. He won. conservatives have to distinguish themselves from liberals. I think it is the greatest mistake they have made. The voters want conservatives in office. Republicans know that. So why do they run to the middle? Because it is where many of them really want to be and because they believe we will do just as Tony is demanding. They get reelected and the voters will have rewarded bad behavior. So we will get more bad behavior.

If the voters ever learn what Nancy P really believes they will certainly be turned off. I believe no damage to America or our interest will occur in the 2 years to follow. But those 2 years of attempted wacky liberalism unveiled will cripple the democratic party. The country would reap great benefits from that.

Lee is so right!
Lee has done exactly what I believe, as a conservative, in promoting ... get rid of the Rinos in the PRIMARIES! JUST DON'T GIVE UP.

Boy, the Dems must be loving all of our "stupid" conservatives who by not voting Republican actually would give their vote to a Democrat. In fact, It's got to be Democrats who have to be encouraging this foolishness since they're ABSOLUTELY the only ones in the game who would benefit from this nonsense of conservatives not voting. Well, I was once one of those "stupid" conservatives but NO LONGER.

No thanks, I'm Stupid

Thanks for this point blank, suck it up, get out and vote column. It is about time someone said it so directly.

I have a theory about those who say they are not going to vote. They are part of the high tech propaganda effort by the Left Wing Democrats to discourage conservatives from going to the polls on election day.

There is a pattern here. The Left’s primary weapons in its propaganda campaign continue to be criticism of every policy of the Bush administration, hate and anger for President Bush personally, and destruction of every idea that is not consistent with the Democrat’s desire to return to power. They are capable only of criticism, hate, anger and destruction while we wait in vain for any plan of their own.

The I'm-not-voting crowd criticizes every action of the Republican congress, hate and anger about Republican job performance, and deliberate, irresponsible destruction of Conservative principles. Why? To teach Republicans a lesson? The preservation of their own shaky values?

The similarities between the two positions and the irrrational manner in which they scream their protests leads me to consider that this, too, is part of the radical Left's high tech propaganda campaign and that nothing like a milion to two million conservatives plan to stay home. That many people could not all be that blind or stupid. If they are, we have ample reason to be afraid for our country's future.

Hold your nose, if you have to, but there are only two answers to this for the I'm-not-voting crowd: ignore the propaganda, and resolve to turn out in great numbers to support and vote for any candidate who stands for Conservative principles and who values our freedom, our traditional culture, our way of life. That cannot be done by staying home.

Kimberly
Don't gloat too much Kimberly, it isn't becoming.

When disillusioned conservatives standing by themselves in the voting booth actually *look* at their ballot this November, they will see a choice between someone who would be more conservative, and someone who would be more liberal.

Given that simple choice, I predict that most of them would realize that they would merely be teaching *themselves* a lesson in stupidity by voting Dhimmicrat.

There are.....
good arguments for retaining the Republicans as well as for punishing the current Republican leadership by throwing the bums out. However, let me make a brief point: If the Dems under Pelousy are returned to power THEY WILL NEVER LEAVE.

How is this possible, you may well be asking yourself? Don't the voters have say over who holds office in this country? What have you been huffin'? Have you missed the McVain-Swinegold Incumbent Protection Act? Do any of you SERIOUSLY think the Treason Party won't take revenge on the American people for having thrown their butts out back in 1994?

The Constitution means precious little to the faux Conservatives who are the Republican "leadership." It means less than NOTHING to the Traitors. You will see them, even if they gain a ONE VOTE majority, attempting to ram through legislation to raise taxes, restrict freedom of speech, defund the military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, alter federal level election laws to make their seats effectively permanent, take away your fire arms, reinstitute the "Fairness Doctrine" to silence Conservative voices in the media (the market won't protect Conservatives from Soros-funded lawsuits, People), impose "Hate Crime" legislation that will have the effect of criminalizing moral behavior in favor of deviant behavior, pursue a paralyzing impeachment campaign against President Bush, stop ANY work on a border fence.....shall I go on?

I am NOT a Republican. I'm registered Constitution Party, but I know they don't have a snowball's chance in H*ll of winning so much as a county weed control board seat, so I'm holding my nose and voting for the Republicans. I don't trust them as far as I can throw them....to me, Bill Frist is just a Traitor Party member with an "R" after his name, and George W. Bush has fewer gonads than a steer. McVain is a power hungry moonbat, and Lindsey Graham is so stupid he could only be a commissioned officer. Personally, I'd like to see ALL of those Creator's Blunders replaced with REAL Conservatives....but that ain't gonna happen anytime soon, at least not so long as state level Republican parties are dominated by the genetically damaged country club trash.

Conservatives need to VOTE AS A BLOCK! Run Conservative candidates OUTSIDE the party structure! Don't seek approval from the country club trash! Show some fire in the belly and run on CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPALS!!!! Don't tell people how conservative you are, that's a sure sign of a RINO/CINO....VOICE THEM and then ACT ON THEM! Conservatism WINS!!!!

Before I left the Republican Party, I was a delegate to my county and state conventions. When I wanted to introduce plank ideas to the appropriate committees, I was told "That's a bit too conservative, no one will vote for this." This was from a party in a state where NOT ONE SINGLE COUNTY HAD GONE FOR EITHER GORE OR KERRY!!!! The country club trash is what needs to be taken out, and the way to do that is for there to be a grass roots revolt, and for Conservatives to use the next two years to raise up our own candidates outside of the Party apparat.

The thought of McVain or Giuliani squatting in the White House makes me ill....neither one is a Conservative, and neither one would be good for the US. We need to find Conservatives who ARE NOT OFFICE HOLDERS and BACK THEM!!! THAT will show the Republican "leadership" how obsolete they are!

If you stay home and turn the country over to the tender mercies of Pelousy and her ilk, you have no one to blame but yourselves when a vote being counted as cast becomes just a pleasant gleam of nostalgia.

Doug
Had it not been for the righteous indignation of Conservatives it would be Justice Harriet Miers, the renown Legal Scholar and Lottery Commissioner, not Alito.
Despite the fact that Bush assured us "I picked the best person I could find", neglecting to tell us he only looked out side of the oval Office door. Did anyone really believe that load of bs? That was a classic example of the Bush cronyism. He likes to keep it close to home.
Thank God no one bought that load of bilge and Bush was forced to actually do his job.

Stupid is as Stupid does
The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. Voting for the GOP is just that insanity.
Conservative voters have long ago been sold down the river by the GOP. Since there are only two viable parties, one more than China, what other options does one have to express discontent?
There in no such thing as the lesser of two evils and I refuse to hold my nose and vote. I’ve done it before and have been ashamed of myself ever since.
Sycophantic begging and pleading hasn’t worked and I sincerely doubt calling people stupid will either. I expect more fear mongering from the likes of yellow-dog Republicans such as Blankely but you would have to be stupid to fall for it. Just show what little regard they truly have for us plebs.

No thanks, I'm Stupid, part 2
To those of you who post comments and end up trading barbs among yourselves, you digress a long way from the original commentary. Your adolescent petulance (thank you Mr. Blankley) doe nothing to advance the argument that, one way or another, your vote counts.

If you really are Republicans and/or Conservatives, and not a radical Left fellow travelers, think of how it might be if the Democrats actually win. Your dissatisfaction would be far worse than it is now. But, to whom will you protest? Do you think a Democrat congressman is going to pay any attention to someone who is not his constituent or even of his own party?

If your Congressional representative is of the same party, you can at least have an ongoing e-mail correspondence to express your views with some assurance you will be heard.

In fact, if all you bloggers complained to your Reps and to key members of Congress as hard as you do on your blogsites and comment opportunities, we might not be worried about a take over by the Left.

OK, so the Republicans ignored us on some important issues; that's all the more reason to be in a position to be able to influence them.

Re-read Tony Blankley's column again...this time more thoughtfully.

Gridlock might be good
As a conservative, I believe that the best outcome in November would be a 2R/1D divided government, with Republicans controlling two out of three elected federal entities (in this case, the White House and the Senate) and Democrats controlling one (the House).

The resulting partisan bickering and gridlock could serve to prevent a lot of bad legislation from passing, while at the same time enabling the passage of a few major good bills. This sort of thing happened during recent periods of 2R/1D divided government (1981 - 1987 and 1995 - 2001). During these periods we had serious tax cuts and tax reform, serious welfare reform, relatively controlled spending, and no new major federal programs.

By contrast, since Republicans gained control of everything a few years ago, we've had huge new federal programs put in place (free drugs for old people, No Child Left Behind, etc.), huge new federal bureaucracies (Homeland Security, TSA), a percentage rise in federal non-defense discretionary spending dwarfing that of every administration of the past 5 or 6 decades (including LBJ), pork, pork, pork, incredibly stupid airport security measures, the McCain Feingold Incumbent Protection Act, the Sarbanes Oxley Act, a ballooning budget for the unconstitutional Department of Education that Reagan wanted to abolish, etc.

KM
You are wrong. Everyone in this country should vote and everyone should make their voice heard. Sometimes we all feel like we are voting for the lesser of 2 evils--that may be true but give me the lesser evil. Maybe I will survive that. I would remind you--Hitler was more and more acceptable to the German people in the early years of his Chancellorship. He was viewed as a great leader for about 5 years (1933-1938)--THEN WAR and NATIONAL DESTRUCTION. They found out about Hitler but it was too late--they had no chance of getting him out of office. That could happen here just as well; we have people that given power would make Hitler look like a saint. Historically it is national suicide to give Left Wing Radicals power.

Conservative impatience
I think the main problem with those threatening to sit out the election is incredible impatience. Yes, the Republicans are far from perfect, but they are still better than the alternative.

Refoprming government is not a fast process. We have had a century to slip into statism, and those sort of changes do not disappear overnight. Short of an armed overthrow, the government will not reform in one election or ten.

Instead, we elect those who are slightly less bad, and encourage those who are less bad still to run in the primaries. By tiny steps in the right direction we build up momentum and eventually reach the goals we have set.

The alternative, which is the outcome of sitting out this election, is to start moving in the opposite direction again. Yes, the Republicans are overspending, have too much faith in big government, and have not been the greatest friends of conservative principles, but if we replace them with even worse democrats, why do we think it will make them more conservative? If they see liberals beating them, why wouldn't they just as likely draw the conclusion that they need to be more liberal to win elections.

No, better to have a party that pays lip service to conservativism, even if they do little in practice. Eventually one or two may begin to take the slogans seriously and start moving us in the right direction. (And the alternative is even more statism, which does nothing to help the cause.)

Grown Up Decisions
Kimberley,

I know you beleive that you are the enlightened one... But you are still wet behind the ears, and possibly don't use them much to listen with. It makes perfect sense to let the liberals destroy what is left of themselves, we conservatives need not vote for half-@ssed republicans to do so.

Republicans have made their choice
As my old country grandpa used to say "ya oughta dance with who brung ya". Congressional Republicans however would just as soon that conservative voters drop them at the front door while they go to the soiree with lobbying groups and mega donors. However, the sad news is that it will be tough to score those sweet real estate deals and trips to Tahiti when one is back coaching wrestling or chasing ambulances.

Conservative Egomaniacs...
By reading the comments in here i have come to the conclusion that conservatives are conceited extremists egomaniacs that believe only "they" know how to run the U.S. government and whats best for everyone that lives here. They are intolerant of all other political veiwpoints.
They consider themselves to be "above" anyone else within the political chain including:

democrats
liberals
moderate republicans (rino's)
libertarians

The GOP isn't listening
Anybody else get the idea that George Bush, Karl Rove and the GOP leadership just doesn't care what we conservatives wish? Case in point is the immigration. Now, if Bush wanted to help his party, he'd at least shut his mouth on a question on which he is in disaggreement with the bulk of his party. But the hard-headed Bush still insists on plugging his amnesty plan on the campaign trail.

On another note from the past, anyone remember that old refrain that the GOP couldn't really cut government until we had the Presidency and the House and the Senate? Well, we've had all three for four years and spending is still skyrocketing. So Republican domination of government doesn't lead to smaller government. Hmm.

Conservatives are Charlie Brown trying to kick the football that the Republican Lucy pulls away. We're suckers. Conservatives not only do not have the respect of the Republican Party, we have earned the contempt the Republican Party. Conservatives are like the cuckold whose wife sleeps with whomever she pleases-- and on the cuckold's dime as well.

Like BrianR and
many of the conservatives posting. Being angry and upset with the Republican performance. I weighed the pros and cons of not voting. You know, teach the Republicans a lesson etc.

I decided that I will hold my nose and vote Republican. If for no other reason, the Liberals and Demos encourage you not to vote.
The very fact that LIBERALS want you to stay home. Should be all the reason a conservative needs to vote.

BrianR and all you other losers
You don't win by losing - it's better to have a man you can verbally chastise - and who will listen - than have a liberal that ignores you. Our people resign for their errors, under pressure from a haranguing and baying media, while democrat/liberals give you the finger and say 'so what', under the gaze of a smiling, indulgent media.

Is this what you're going to surrender to? Do the good republicans, our men in uniform waging war and the future of this nation deserve this?

Blankley is totally right - to do nothing is stupid. Sure, many of us have been pretty PO'd by the administration and various legislators, particularly for their penchant to pork spend and their egregious lack of moral spine. This is your own decency that you feel, and it's being used against you to discourage your participation. But think of how much worse you will feel - and it will be - to have to listen to that wailing banshee Pelosi nightly - and that smugly insufferable Shumer as voice of the Senate.

Get out there - contribute, work, make sure to vote - do something. PO'd as we are, think of how much worse you will feel if the liberals take over, start stuffing their tax, spend and pervert promoting agenda down your throat - and you did nothing to prevent it.

I haven't seen 'Flags of our Fathers' - the Clint Eastwood version of the battle for Iwo Jima - but I recommend it, sight unseen. Knowing Clint, he will give us a non-liberal portrait of one of the most brutal fights in US military history. And think about the sacrifice they made to keep us free - and not slaves to what liberals want to impose on us.

Goshawk...
..I concur.

Deaf Ears
It is true that the conservative voice has been all but silenced by the present administration.

Again, the alternative is worse than the present I guess althougth RTL/conservatives will get the majority of my votes.

Thank God for Democrats, eh, Tony?
I guess your point is that no matter how wasteful and shy the Republicans are, it could be worse? WOW I am inspired now. I will vote Repub as per usual. It's like we say in GA concerning education: "Thank God for Mississippi".

If you don't vote...
Don't complain if you are not listened to.

Warrior
I answered your post in yesterday's "Are The Democrats Winning or Are the Republicans Losing".

I see this post as the same.

The Powers in DC (both politicians and conservative columnists) see the results of their mis-deeds looming on the horizion and in order to stave off defeat are using scare tactics and intimidation to get out the vote.

I am saying that if they are re-elected after the disgraceful performance (or lack thereof) of the last 2 or 6 years, they will believe they NEVER have to listen to the will of their constituents.

Tony's Right This Time - Last Week: NO!
___ (1) I am lucky enough to live in New Hampshire and will vote for Jeb Bradley ((R) for the First Congressional District) . I am glad to do so. He supports our military, our liberties and our wallets. He deserves my vote and will get it. So do 8 of 9 Republicans running for our State Legislature from my district. Then there are those running for the school board etc. Not only will I vote for these outstanding guys, but I will help during the election, as I did in the primaries. After voting, I will volunteer at my polling place by helping the count of the right-in votes etc.
___ (2) I don't grumble about RINOs, I work to defeat them in the Primaries by supporting real conservatives well before the Nov. election. And I also write after they are elected and award a fulsome Attaboy! when they done good. Everyone needs a well deserved pat on the back and our elected reps are no different. If you think your civic responsibility begins and ends with a five minute jaunt to the polls, well... what can I say? I am reminded of two children's fables: (1) Who Will Bell the Cat? and (2) The Little Red Hen - Who Will help Me Bake My Bread? Believe me when I say, the impact of organized and informed volunteers on the typical politician can be immense.
___ (3) I won't say much more, as it has already been said eloquently by: Tap001, RodT, drinking hound, Baseball, Jerabaub, and GrandmaRobby.
___ (4) I will say this, in closing, DON'T CRITICIZE - ORGANIZE!!

Left Angle
You are correct in your assumption that we conservatives think that only we are equipped to run the UNITED STATES government. We have seen what happens when commie/lib socialists(and that term is not perjorative it is an adjective) get hold of governments: Cuba, Soviet Union, France, San Francisco, New York in the 1970s. Even the paradise of the Netherlands has people getting stabbed by welcomed criminals.

Goshawk, Conman
If these people are re-elected they will decide they are politically bulletproof and can do whatever they wish and the people's will be da^ned. What difference will it make to vote in Democrats where we have RINO's who vote the Dem ticket? Nancy Pelosi & Company>? They will be so busy for 2 years with personal axe to grind i.e. impeachment proceedings, investigations into everything and anything and hearings out the ying yang that they will have no time for much mischief. Besides, President Bush has a seldom used VETO pen in his pocket. I have more of my idea in yesterday's post. I am not a liberal or a democrat but, @!!*&&% it, something has to be done to make these folks understand they are there to represent US, not themselves. Like the horsetrainer who is going to teach a mule to rein. The first thing he did was hit the mule between the eyes with a 24oz Louisville Slugger. That was NOT cruelty. That was to get the mule's attention!

conman
You write, "...it is better to have a man you can verbally chastise- and who will listen..."

I am in full agreement with that.

However

These people ARE NOT LISTENING.

Where is the Louisville Slugger???

grandma robby, Jay
I often hear smart conservatives on this site talk about studiying history to support their positions. The excellent statements by grandma and Jay make the point. It may not be a Presidential election. It may not seem like a big deal, just 2 years. But lets not forget what happened to Bush I! Many conservatives stayed home and we got Clinton. Many conservatives said "that'll teach them." Many conservatives said "after 4 years of this, the country will come around."

Many conservatives were wrong.
Don't let this happen again. Vote Republican.

Me and My Family Will Vote Republican
While I have a problem with how some Republicans, McCain, Dewine, Graham, Specter, and other Rino's have treated us, I have to consider what kind of hosing we would get with,Democrat Pelosi,DefeatistCRATS Turncoats, like Kerry, Murtha,Durbin, Leahy, Landscam Reid, Turkeyscam Conyers,$ 90,000 freezer stasher W. Jefferson, Chappiquiddick Ted Kennedy, Captain of the SS Olsmobile,Named the Mary Jo, and the rest of those CUT AND RUN Terrorist backers who would give the enemy,US Constitutional Rights, and would jeopardize our troops by allowing them to be tryed in the lefist world court. This is just the tip of the ice berg as to the disaster that is ahead if the Radical Lefist Defeatistcrats takes over the House and Senate.

Republicans and Conservatives, you are intelligent people and you know Tony is just trying to snap you out of the Quandry that you appear to be in. The LSM,MSM, has somehow caused you to temporary take leave of the Left Hemisphere of your Brain that allows you to use Analytical, Logic and Commonsense. No offense intended. Remember your Vote for Republicans will keep this Country from going down the tubes. The last time this boycott was implemented by us was in 1992. We got eight years of the most filthy and corrupted Government in the History of this Country. I URGE TO VOTE REPUBLICAN AND NOT REPEAT THE TRAGIC MISSTAKE OF 1992.

Conservatice Whipping Boys
The GOP 1994 Revolution ended in December 1995 with a whimper. Most of thier agenda concerning smaller goverment was consigned to the ashbin of history, and the GOP House and Senate leadership used 9/11 to go on a spending spree that goes on to this day. Since 9/11, total Federal Spending increased from 2.1 to 2.9 trillion dollars. To make matters worse, the GOP enacted a 400 billion Medicare perscription program that is 350 billion under funded.

In Sept and Oct of 2001, the President enacted the Bush Doctrine, which placed most of the problems with not only terror, but nuclear proliferation, and chauvinistic expansionism at the footsteps of Korea and Iran. We went into Iraq not to cure the world of Saddam (that was a side benefit), but to meneace Iran (Iran borders both Afghanistan and Iraq). Despite his orginal success, Bush began to back off his orginal srategy- that is to bring the War On Terror to both N. Korea and Iran. Since 2003, Bush (with the approval of the Senate) outsourced both Iran and Korea to the UN and EU. Surprise! These two nations now threaten to take the World to the nuclear brink; Iran also continues to sned foot soldiers, money and weapons to Iraq, Leabanon, and Venezuela. N Korea now has the capability to send missles to Alaska, and within a few years the West Coast. Within 4 years, Europe will be within striking distance of Iran's nukes; within 10 years the US will be.

Why should conservatives be angry? Bush obviously cannot wait for the day he leaves office (I suppose like most boomers he grew bored with the war), and the GOP leadership can always retire to thier K-Street Law Offices if they lose the election.

I will vote this November for the GOP -like I always do. But, I can surely understand those who many may stay home.

Repubs/Cons FEAR Dem Control of Govt.?

Liberal Law Maker- breaker
Let's look at abortion. Frist they had all kinds of brith control and brith control devices, said it would quell the need for abortion. Then they legalized abortion, but said there would be few because of all the birth control. Now we have the abortion pill, not to mention the killing of babies at birth, partial birth abortion. Whats next kill the woman before she gets pregnant??? Just a grown up thinking out loud!!!!

military funding
I'm not saying that posters claiming that the Dems will cut military funding are incorrect, but if this kind of situation is true, why is it that there are large number of Iraqi war vets running for office on the democratic ticket, and only a couple on the GOP? The military has long been GOP supporters, but if that was true in this election, than why are there not more GOP vet candidates? Let's not forget that the outsourcing of military recruitment to private companies costs at least $5800.00 a recruit with bonuses for high quotas. Seems to me that $5800.00 would go a long way to equipping each recruit with the best body armour available, instead of civilian pockets. If I was approached by a civilian recruiter, I would laugh in his face, what do civilians know about being in the military? It's like trusting a gas pump jockey to sell you a Caddilac.

If you vote..
Republican don't complain if you get more of the same. You asked for it. Voting for the lesser of two evils is still voting for evil. I have made my electoral decisions via absentee ballot. I refuse to reward bad behavior and no Republican seeking a congressional seat recieved my vote, nor my wifes, my son's,my daughter's or either of my two voting age grand children's.

The Democrats are going to pick up congressional seats come November, and maybe even the majority in one or both houses. Lets be clear. The Democrats aren't WINNING any of those seats. The Republicans are LOSEING them. So let it be written, so let it be done!

A Man Date, Vote Republican!
Bush had a Man Date after the 2004 election, remember? And just how did he spend his political capital?

I'm going to vote Republican. Because I want to hear Bush say he has another man date. Strategically I think the Dems need to vote Republican because 2 more years of Republican complete control will put the final nail in the coffin for the Republican party. Where is the Republican "Contract With America" stating something is going to change after this election? There ain't one because they don't feel they need one. If the Republicans retain control it will just be business as usual. More death and destruction in Iraq. More Dow hitting 12,000 and average American wages stagnate.

Six-years of Republican control and where is that "values voter" man date for a national marrage amendment of one-man, one-woman? Oh was Bush just teasing you?, tsk tsk. And the whole Congress too?

If the Republicans retain full control until 2008 then I think its likely we could see a complete reversal with the Dems taking it all in 2008.

Liberals need to stay focused and let the Republicans keep the focus another two years. The disgust threat level needs to go from stench orange to toxic red.

Republicans Win
3 or more NET pickups for the Republicans in the Senate. Closer to the magic 60.

10 to 11 net pickups for the Republicans in the House.

For Left Angle, you are right about no comparison between Slick Willie and a Real President, Mr. Bush. The fact is there is only one comparison to be made to the Slick Willie, and that would be the MOBs and Gangsters of the early 1930,s

How much damage to our troops could a Dhimmi-crat
controlled gov't do?
I mean, is it possible for them to be treated as shamefully as they were during the Carter Administration?

I am gravely concerned-
As my 20 year old nephew is an Army Ranger over there in the Middle East

Thank You For Proving Tony's Point
Okay, I am as conservative as you get. The Republican party, including Pres. Bush, has infuriated me over the last few years for not keeping with the conservative principles that got them where they are.

But all of you who say we need to teach the Republicans a lesson and that two years of Democrats would be a good lesson are fools. The last time conservatives taught republicans a lesson, we got 8 years of Clinton. It's just like all of these voters voting their conscience with the Abortion issue... Sometimes they will vote against a Republican who is not completely anti-abortion because they are "voting their conscience", which allows the Democrat to win, which also helps the leftist Democrat leadership to win (who is certainly PRO abortion). So their high ideals and their "voting their conscience" caused the very thing they claim to be against. And your conscience is okay with that?

I say vote for the party closest to your ideals, then continue to pressure for more conservative candidates. Does that mean you have to "hold your nose" at times? You bet. But as a conservative, I still have a lot better chance of affecting conservative change with the Republicans, as flawed as they are, than with 2+ years with the Democrats. How many good conservative, pro-life judges will NOT get appointed during those 2 years?

JM

P.S. Is tanabear really as clueless as he appears to be?

re: your nephew in the middle east;
If your republican candidate was an incumbent, with lots of earmarks in his/her voting record, and the dem candidate was an Iraqi war vet, which one would you vote for? Which one would better serve the voters? And I would put this question out to any dem voters too. If the Iraqi war and military is really your biggest concern, than vote for the candidate that is better equipped to deal with military matters. ANY politician, of either party that has tried to earmark Military projects the Pentagon doesn't want, is not serving your military well.

I understand..
what you are saying JSMTexas and there are those who agree with that. I don't because I don't believe there is much functional difference between the two party. As we have seen over the last 12 years many things are SAID, but to me its in the doing that counts and the Republicans not only didn't do, they didn't even make a good faith effort. True, a couple things worked out like the two Supreme court justices..but lets not forget one of those was done under presidential protest. He wanted Harriet. I do think the President was right in taking the fight to the terrorists, including invading Iraq and I support him in that...but how can he seriously be concerned about our security here in the states when he refuses to seal the southern border. Even now, with the election nearly on us and Republicans staring defeat in the face both he and congressional leadership are playing games with the border fence. True, he signed the bill providing funding to build one, but is pocket vetoing the bill mandating one be constructed. The white house, Frist and Hastert made an agreement the funds now signed into law could be used for things other than building an actually fence..like a virtual fence, etc. Thats not the story the put up front to the voters though.

Recently I saw a poll that said only 2% of likely voters gave 'values' as a reason they will vote. The MSM of course has its spin on that...I'd like to suggest the possibility that maybe only 2% of the 'values' voters plan to vote...the rest will stay home.

Withhold your vote 'n wither on the vine
Your politicians are a reflection of YOU, not the other way around. If you withhold your vote, it's like looking in the bathroom mirror, and saying, "I'm not shaving that face!".

It's like going to a prom without deodorant.
It's donating your children to NAMBLA. It's showing up to a baby shower and slitting your wrists.

It's comparable to booting Lieberman out of your party after asking him to be your vice-presidential candidate.

The only perfect one is God
We are governed by men, not deities. You will always be disappointed when men rule, but it is your divine duty to make the best choices you have before you.

Render unto Caesar that which belongs to Caesar. You serve your God when you serve your fellow men. Don't cut and run.

I had an Evil Thought
Maybe it makes sense to vote republican, after thinking it over it may be just the thing to send them over that cliff.

Capriciousness doesn't pay
I see self righteous narcissism rearing its ugly head. Something I thought was the plague of liberalism is spreading to the conservative crowd. Abandoning a work in progress even temporarily may prove its entire undoing. Where do you think you will turn next if you can't support those who are trying now? You accuse your politicians of lacking moral courage - but you refuse to reward those few brave souls with your support when they need it most? This is not maturity.

Moral courage is easier to exercise when your fellow conservatives bolster your efforts with their own. Let's all pull in the same direction, shall we?

You guys are..
a hoot. I suspect we have a few RNC operatives on this thread. Speaking for my self, I said nothing about not voting...I said I didn't give my vote to any Republican seeking a congressional seat...and no, I didn't vote for a Democrat either....I left those races blank but cast my ballots in state and local races and for or against local issues. Others can do as they wish...The results will be on display November 8th.

Marriage is the house of the family
Why is it that homosexuals beleive they have the right to invade the house of the family?? The mother the father, the child. As I see it in Massachusetts they already have the marriage liecense stating Party A and Party B. Now they are insulted because of the words mother and father. Who gives them the right to invade the house of the natural family? Who gives them the right to change our way of life. I stay throw them out of the house of marriage. It is our family they are trying to break up.

Missing the Point
Let's all get one thing straight, we are conservatives, not Republicans. It just so happens that usually we vote for Republicans most of the time (mostly because we can't stomach the Liberal Democrat opposition). This President as well as all the idiots in the House and Senate have proven they are NOT conservatives, but the typical promise everything, deliver nothing, tax-and-spend polititians that real Conservatives despise. Do I neeed to remind everyone that this President with a Republican House and Senate gave us the largest federal increase in education spending ever (No Child Left Behind) as well as the largest increase in entitlement spending in history (Medicare Precription Drugs). I guess Tony missed that whole thing about Conservatives eating their own when they get out of line like we did when his boss (Mr. Gingrich) got caught cheating on his wife. We have principles, Mr. Blankley, and we won't just vote for someone because they have an (R) next to their name on the news.

Ed
That's really, really sad that your representatives did not respond to you. I'm a California Republican - the largest state in the union I might add - and Senator Feinstein and Representative Pelosi have both quickly responded to me when I wrote them.

GOP listening
Buck - I totally agree. At times it doesn't seem like our reps pay any attention to us at all; that we can be manipulated at will.

But consider who my reps are: the highly hypocritical (owns scads of oil shares yet continually harangues the oil cos. and votes to prevent any domestic oil production - keeps the prices up) Boxer, (for the total destruction of the 2nd amendment) Feinstein and 'open borders' Schiff. My views are not represented nor even considered by these clowns.

But I do contribute to races that I consider important, and although legislators don't tend to respond to non-constituents, they don't automatically dismiss supporters either.

I do believe we had an impact on the immigration debate - you will recall that the House sidetracked the Senate's attempt to railroad its version through the Congress. We stopped one of their favorite tactics - produce a phone book size piece of legislation then insist that it be quickly passed.

And we have other tools at our disposal that heretofore were unavailable: mass faxing services, cheap long distance cell phone calling, the internet, the blogs, Fox news, talk radio, etc.

It wasn't too long ago, none of these things were available. The media still makes a lot of noise buts its credibility, its reach and dominance is rapidly waning.

Then there's nothing like a campaign to get these reps refocused, away from the isolation of DC - something that the imperial senators, unfortunately, don't have to deal with 5 of their 6 year terms. Repeal the 17th!

It's up to us to stay involved, letting them know we are monitoring their performance. As it has been said, you get the gov't you deserve - and you'll get absolutely nothing from a liberal dominated and controlled Congress. Is that what you want?

Correction
It wasn't Rep Pelosi I wrote to; it was Senator Boxer, a theoretically busier woman than Pelosi when it comes to constituent relations.

I will say it again...
The time to clean house is in the primaries, not the national elections.

jerubaal...
....correction...California is the most populous state, not the largest....a touchy subject here in Texas....

Feinstein/Pelosi response
Yea, Jerubaal, they responded - with a form letter that basically shined you on - even if they agreed with you.

I got one from Schiff - he gets a total F across the board from NumbersUSA on border control and security issues - full of mumbling equivocation.

Don't forget the cardinal rule of politics: NEVER LISTEN TO WHAT THEY SAY - WATCH WHAT THEY DO.

Helllloooo-ooo
To all you folks who keep saying one way or another that it's better to have Repubs in place, because they will at least "listen" to the conservatives' complaints:

Really? At any time other than when they're staring unemployment in the face? Because I'm sure not seeing it at any other time during the last few years.

I'm fortunate in this election because my Rep, Buck McKeon, is a very solid conservative on all the issues, so this is somewhat moot for me. But what happens in '08? You want to have to again hold your nose and vote for McCain or Giuliani or some other RINO?

Because the party ain't getting the message you guys think you're sending.

Jimmy Carter
Good point. But now I have another hard question to answer. Do I apologize, and spare my state war with Texas, or do I refuse to apologize, and have Texas conquer California?

Tough choice...

A plague on both your friggin' houses
I can't stand the ridiiculous nature of politics today where people vote for represenatives that they barely can stand and attack anyone that doesn't, calling them stupid. It's like a giant football game to these fools, where winning is the only thing that is important.
To those of you who are angry with the republicans because that have spent more, expanded the federal government, and wasted tax money on stupid foreign wars I say you should know better. You understand reason and should undertstand the power of a free market. Democracy in this country is a free market and there are other names on the ballot. You know that these modern republicans are little better than democrats with religion. Vote for another party! So what if you don't win, is your voice better served when you reluctanly vote for a horrible candidate than when your voting for someone that does represent you causes a republican to loose? So what if that helps a democrat get a seat for 2 freaking years! The power goes back and forth and the only thing that changes is that the federal government and it's beurocracy grows, despite who is in the majority! Don't even try to argue this point, you already know how what the Bush administration has done. Make your opinion matter! Vote for who you actually want!
To those of you that are here because you want to outlaw homosexuality, execute pot smokers, and make Christianity the state religion, you don't want the Republican party either. They are not nearly authoritarian enough for you. You should look into fascism, it's more in line with your morals.

conman
This question was on an issue too specific for it to have been a form letter, and it cited sources and arguments.

I asked the two senators to support Daniel Pipes for the U.S. Institute for Peace nomination. They both responded, one of them citing CAIR's opinion as to why they could not support Dr. Pipes.

jerubaal...
...the acknowledgement, a handshake, a beer will suffice.....

I'm voting, and you should too
If you don't vote, you contribute to destroying America as a government of, by and for the people. The government of this country must not be left to the elitists!

I will vote for the candidates closest to my views. These do NOT happen to be Congress' only DECLARED Socialist for the Senate, or the UNDECLARED one seeking to follow in his footsteps in the House.

Unlike many Democrats, I only vote in one state. I leave the rest to you who stand with me.

Ah, ziggy...
...without question, a leftist/liberal with all the baggage. Con-spiracies: they're everywhere, they're everywhere...

Yes, there are operatives around who like to monitor and confuse the issues - no doubt about it - even here.

There's a similarity in the financial sphere to how democrats view the political world. In analyzing stock performances, there is fundamental analysis (carefully scrutinizing the fundamentals of the company: capitalization, debt, assets, products, marketing strategies, etc.) and technical analysis (stock performance, highs, lows, trends, etc. - i.e. chart reading).

Generally speaking, republicans, at least conservatives, try to sell a view, leadership, a solution, etc. in order to win support - fundamental analysis.

On the other hand, democrats will do anything to win an election short of offering a view worth voting for (voter fraud, personal attacks, scare tactics, media propaganda/manipulation, class warfare, spying, lying, anti-Bush, etc.) - technical analysis.

This is what liberals are - and they are the first to accuse their opponents of what they do. Don't liars always assume everyone is lying?

Generally, it has been my experience that it is quite beyond the world view of liberals to assume honorable and moral behavior in another. Conservatives, assuming the best qualities in their fellow man, are often mugged by unprincipled liberals.

Consequently, liberals get the upper hand - in the short term. But they lose credibility and the ability to maintain working relationships on a continuing basis. That's the price the base and immoral pay for their temporary triumphs.

Yes, ziggyyyy, it's the vast right wing conspiracy - we know who you are - and we're coming to get you...

Fed up
I am one of those "stupid" Republicans, (as are all of my family members and most of my friends), who will not be voting for any candidate that has voted for the "comprehensive" immigration bill...whether they are Republican or Democrat. That includes the election this November, as well as the elections in 2008. I don't care if the she-devil herself is running for President...if it is against McCain, neither will get my vote.

I am fed up with watching Congress thumb their noses at us. I am no longer voting for the lesser of two evils. I have voted Republican all of my life, but I feel as if my party has abandoned me.

I have friends and family in the military (that have gone to Iraq, come home, and are going again; some are getting ready for their 4th tour) They also will not be voting for any candidate that does not do everything in their power to shut down our borders.

How insulting to talk security, and send my friends and family members in harms way so we "don't have to fight the war on terror at home", just to have our borders wide open for any terrorist, drug dealer, etc. to come and go as they please. It is laughable!

The only reason: big buisness and their money! I used to be for business and free trade, etc...but now, after watching things like the lack of border security, the ports deal, the NASCO corridor, terrible trade agreements, and numerous other things involved in screwing the American people at the expense of big business, I am disgusted.

If you hire someone to do the job, and the job does not get done...you don't pay them more money and hire them again. The people in Congress are no longer Republicans, and they have failed at their jobs. Maybe if the Senate or the House goes Democrat, we will finally get to see President Bush veto a spending bill...and force the Republicans to re-evaluate why we voted for them in the first place, and return to it!!! If they don't by 2008, you can count on me, my family and my friends to not vote again...but I guess we are just dumb Southerners acting "stupid"

I hope that everyone in

Brian R, Conman
Brian R: I really think we are reading from the same page. The only difference is, you say, "Tomato", I say, "Tomato". Got it?

Conman, All I am saying is this: If, after 2 years or 6 years of being in office and not listening to their constituents, these azzholes think they can come in and effing SCARE you into voting for them. Look at the scoreboard:
1. They are representatives of the people who elected them;

2. They have been here 2 years (or 6 years) and done pretty much as they pelased.
i.e. when the Illegal Immigration FIRST started to boil over...every one of them treated it as a hot-head issue. When they realized it was something way, way beyond the hotheads, they started two-stepping and 'shuckin' an' jivvin' us about jobs and mass deportation and offering amnesty.
Now, they are up for re-election and NONE of the things for which they stand have been worked on. So they know you ain't buyin' any more of, "Oh, vote for me and I will fix the Immigration Issue....." because they have lied to us before to get into office...They are lying through their eye-teeth now. SO! The ONLY thing they can try to do between now and Nov 7 is to 1. Intimidate; or 2. Scare you into voting for them. They are putting the fear tactics on you vis Nancy Pelosi et al.
A couple of things to remember before you go to the polls:

1. If the Dems get in it is only for 2 years, unless you are too weak to throw them out.

2. Fool me once, shame on you;
Fool me twice, shame on me.

They have done fooled me once.....

Fed Up
I understand. Here's the kicker everyone keeps forgetting:

When we vote the s.o.b.'s out...well, 2 years later we that did this will realize how much power we have as to our representatives....and THEY WILL ALSO!

Tony the lackey
I really like Tony Blankley--but he sometimes is a lackey for the radio libs on NPR and on the liberal PBS talk show 'The McLaughlin Group'. He sits there and clams up whenever some lib starts spewing their pablum. I am certain he does this so that he can continue coming on to these shows. Coulter doesn't do that and she isn't hardly ever invited back on these types of programs due to her having more balls than Blankley does. For example there was a recent McLaughling Group installment where that buzzard Eleanor Clift said that we had absolutely no good reason to have invaded Iraq--and good old Tony just sat there stone faced and let her spew without bringing up a single fact against her.
I have also listened to his many appearances on NPR--one time that total loon David Corn went on about that specious Plamegate crud and when Tony didn't rip the idiot moonbat a new one I turned off the radio out of disgust at his lack of a response in kind.
Now in this column he sounds great--only I really wish he would sound so good when he's face to face with some lefty loon moonbat who is spewing their pablum with reckelss glee because they quite probably know that good old Tony will let them get away with whatever they say.

The corrupt "Republicrats"
It now appears that even a number of the far right "Theocrats" posting here are beginning to realize just how much they've been "had" by the Republicans and how totally corrupt both mainstream political parties…the "Republicrats"…have now become. But, simply throwing the Republicans out of office in favor of the Democrats come November won't really make any difference because it will simply exchange one form of corruption (and power-hungry slate of political hacks) for another.

Sadly, the "Rebublicrats" have brainwashed most of us into thinking we have no other choice at election time but to vote for one or the other of their ever-more corrupt political candidates. But what's even more upsetting is that the two mainstream political parties have also now corrupted the money raising and "getting on the ballot" game in most States so that no other candidates from ANY other political stripe need apply.

Fortunately, there's a growing number of "conservative" citizens like me who are increasingly fed up with BOTH mainstream political parties because far too many of their candidates are hopelessly corrupt, morally bankrupt and more than worthy of jail time. And, all the while we continue to vote for the "lesser of two evils" come election time, we’re just going to keep on exchanging one form of political corruption for another.

Fortunately, the Republicrat's "stack the ballot" game only works so long as we, the people, continue to buy into it. Thankfully, we still have choices at the ballot box come general election time in the only “poll” that really matters. It's called a "write in". And, it's going to take an absolutely massive write-in campaign, over the course of several elections, to completely remove the corrupt influence of the "Republicrats" from office once and for all.

That is, the longest journey always begins with the first few steps.

Do your homework, people! You don't have to simply "stay home" to express your total disgust with what's now going on in our government. There ARE worthy alternatives to the corrupt political hacks now running our country into the ground! In the upcoming general election, make your vote REALLY count by sending a strong message to BOTH mainstream political parties that you are absolutely fed up with their closed electoral practices, obvious collusion and blatant corruption!

Power Over Principle
I think one thing that's starting to become pretty clear about conservative pundits like Blankley, Rush Limbaugh, conservative talk radio and the like is that they're becoming what they've always claimed Democrats of being - doing anything and everything for the Republicans to cling on to power.

We elected Republicans because we believed in things. We want to see more school choice. We want to see a balanced budget. We want to see social security reform. We want to see immigration reform. We want to see a line item veto added to the Constitution. I think for the most part, we want to see term limits as promised in the Contract with America.

Pretty much all of these, aside from immigration reform, have been pretty much cast aside by "conservative" commentators. Because we're only interested in power, we've become only a two issue party - tax cuts and national defense. And as much as the Republican cheerleaders like Sean Hannity would like to talk about how we aren't the party that politicizes national defense and the war on terror, that's basically all you hear about now on talk radio. While it's certainly an important issue, we are the ones politicizing it because we've lost our way on so many other issues that it's one of the few things we think we can hang our hats on (even though after years of Republican pundits trying their best to put a rosey picture on Iraq, it's pretty evident that it is a complete mess over there).

Really about the only accomplishment Republicans can hang their hats on after the last "most important election in our history" in 2004 is getting Roberts and Alito on the Supreme Court - and even that was almost botched when Harriet Miers was nominated!

The thing is, as sad as it is to say it, there does come a point when a party has stayed in power too long, and unfortunately, it is the Republican party.

When the "conservative" party is passing defense budgets with $11 billion in pork, power has become more important than principle.

When Ted Stevens can push the "bridge to nowhere" and yet remain a Rush Limbaugh favorite, power has become more important than principle.

When you've gone from being the party of ideas and a party of reform to basically a two issue party of tax cuts and national defense, neither of which is going that well with the tax cuts being stalled and the situation deteriorating in Iraq, power has become more important than principle.

Pretty much not only do the Republicans in power need a wake up call, Rush Limbaugh, Tony Blankley, Sean Hannity and all other conservative commentators that are afraid of losing Republican power need a wake up call too.

I for one have no qualms about being one of those conservatives who will not be voting for the Republican candidate for Senate in November. The only thing accomplished by allowing the Republicans to barely cling to power after the '06 elections is allowing them to alienate the base even further and guaranteeing a Democrat Congress AND a Democrat President in 2008. It's better to make the statement now and make sure the wake up message is heard loud and clear, so real conservatives that put principle first and not power will be the ones that lead the Republican party in '08.

Buck
I could not agree more! If these idiots won't listen or respond to my emails, then they can listen to the deafening silence of me not voting them back into office. Hopefully they can have two years to figure out how they strayed from their conservative base, and fix it. I cannot stand having this party assume they have my vote because the alternative is a Democrat...I am not a sheep; I will not follow "just because." The Republicans have to earn my vote, and I know I am not alone. The sooner the Republicans realize that the better.

Woffy, Buck, et. al.,
Ok, you have principles. So do I. But all politics is about compromise. It always has been. You vote for the candidate that is most closely aligned, or least poorly aligned with your principles.

If you do not vote, you can end up with representatives that are polar opposites of your principles. The damage from even two years of Dhimmicrats would be staggering, and lots of it irreparable. How is that better?

If you think that the Republicans were soft on immigration, how do you think the Dhimmicrats would be better?

Oh, and another thing...
I did not mean to imply that if you do vote, you will not end up with representative that are *not* polar opposites of your principles.

I live in Washington State. I nearly always get polar opposites no matter what. I have been voting the bums out for the last 20 years to no avail.

Nastimann
I don't think that the Dems will be better on immigration, but they are not ignoring all of their constituents. Many Republicans are screaming at the top of their lungs at their elected officials for enforcement only immigration reform, and all they get is ignored. As long as big business and the chamber of commerce are funneling money into their campaigns, they could care less about the voter.

The worst thing is the lies! These people claim to be for tough border security, and actually run on the issue to calm us down, but when you delve into the depths of their voting record....all you see is more lies.

Sure they vote to build a fence, but then don't vote to fund the fence. Another bill comes to the Senate to build a fence...they vote for the fence, but then put so many loopholes in the way the money for the fence can be used.

At least some Democrats have at least been consistent...on the wrong side of border control, but consistent.

Republicans better wake up. Oh, and Keith, don't worry, I plan to vote...just not for a Republican or a Democrat for that matter.

Conservative Egomaniacs...
By reading the comments in here i have come to the conclusion that conservatives are conceited extremists egomaniacs that believe only "they" know how to run the U.S. government and whats best for everyone that lives here. They are intolerant of all other political veiwpoints.
They consider themselves to be "above" anyone else

We are not'now shutup and sit down and let us run the country. :)

OK! OK!
For those of you conservatives who truly believe that America as we know it will cease to exist if you do not vote for the same duplicitous cowards who conned you into voting for them the last time, then PLEASE, by all means, vote for them again.

If choosing Tweedle-dee over Tweedle-dum makes you feel like Adam Smith's "Rational Man", because Tweedle-dee is 2% less dissatifying than Tweedle-dum, then PLEASE, knock yourself out and vote for the boob.

If the yoke of servility rests lightly enough on your shoulders to make you shudder at the thought of "risking" the tolerable lowliness you have come to personal terms with, then PLEASE, PLEASE, work to maintain the status quo.

As for me, my allegiance does not come so cheap, but y'all can do whatever you want. See you in '08 and may God have mercy on us all.

Nastimann
I am not going to compromise the truth; and the truth is these ah's have been stroking me for too many years. The truth is they need to be sent on down the road.
The truth is they (the Republc'ns, Sean Hannity, Rush et al)are using fear and intimidation on you to keep their control over the House(s). The truth is: You Are blanked. If you vote for the incumbent Republc'ns , they will return, re-elected and continue their old ways; or you can vote for a Democ't who will assume all the leadership roles in congress, and continue doing as have been the Republicans for too long, now. it does not matter. Other than you can bring these elected jerks back home and send someone else there.

Fed up with being ignored
The worst think I can imagine is the Dhimmicrats getting back in power. I will vote accordingly.

But Mark Twain said "If voting made any difference they wouldn't let us do it."

Ok! Ok!
Just too let you know some of the things that really weigh on my heart, like Rosie ODonnell saying that she lets a dog lick her kid's butt, to cure diaper rash. Or the fact that her 5 yr. old adopted son told her that he didn't think two women should marry. Or the fact that she took bathes with him and he asked her if he would get fur like that too. I have a very nice friend who is a wonderful mother and works to protect kid's. The gay's have hurled so much hate at her. Saying she is unfit and they should take her children away from her. Someone broke into her house and stole her credit cards and vandlezied her home. Then even wrote across her front door LEAVE. I think this evil is far worse than we imagine. I wish we could help these people but it looks like they want to convert our children into their illness. The State of Massachusetts is making laws to give rights to these kind, that natural heterosexual people never ingauged in. Like training children for sexual experiments. Educating children in Kindergarten for homosexul imformation. I am ashamed for my home State and broken hearted for the children and families that live and work here. This is a nightmare that grows more and more insane everyday. God please look down upon your children and guide us to the correct way to deal with this tragic condition we are facing. I don't know what is wrong with the law makers and the courts and the judges that refuse to take proper care of this out of control sexual mess. Insanity is rampant and evil is at our door.

Don't saddle Clinton with all the blame for reducing the size of the military. He was joined by congressional Republicans, and, for that matter, the downsizing of the military really began under Bush I. The wave of base closures and force reductions sickened me back in the 90s. One more time American politicians in both parties really had convinced themselves that the US would never again have need of large supplies of manpower in war. It was all going to be done by elite troops and gadgets. Not likely, and now we see the payoff with a paper-thin military that would not, repeat not, be able to continue the war in Iraq, add Iran to the list, and deal with North Korea at the same time.

The multitheatre operations we took for granted in WWII could not be done today, even though we have the best high tech military force on the planet.

So, what to do? I'm a liberal who thinks we should open up a lot of those bases, begin a serious campaign to enlarge the military, reinstitute (told you I'm a liberal) the draft, and, by the way, get serious about putting this country on a war footing.

I've had this argument with career military types who were sold a bill of goods about downsizing in the 90s because the Pentagon had to play ball with the politicians on this one.

So, are there any Republican politicians who are going to take our country's defense seriously? So far they haven't, and I include Bush II, who really thought he could win a war on the cheap.
The only thing that's cheap is the sacrifice of American lives for a people who just wants us to get out so they can start killing each other off more efficiently. Let 'em, and let this country get ready for the real war with Islam, for which Iraq is just the opening act.

Shutup! and go back to moveon.
You sound like a used car sales man who is desperat and fears loseing his home.
It takes alot more than your squeeling to get our attention.
I just grew tired of hearing it!

Gestell:
You are so right and no one wants to see this 'forest' for the 'trees'.

We are at war. We are at war with an army. We are at war with the Army of Islam. We are at war with the religion of Islam and that religion is the Army of Islam. We are at war with an army. We are at war with the Army of Islam. And that army is 1 Billion Strong!

There are no 'moderate' muslims because ALL muslims are part of the Army of Islam. The 'moderate' muslims are spies, disbursing clerks, supply clerks, Intelligence Corps and early invaders into new areas.

We are at War with the Army of Islam that army's avowed purpose is to 1. Convert all of us;, or 2. kill all of us. To them it is no matter. To yourselves, make up your own minds....

Election propaganda
As soon as the Mark Foley scandal hit the papers, what's the first thing the Democrats did. They shouted from the roof tops the Republicans, Conservatives, and the Christian Right were going to sit this out. They've had it with the Republican party and their going to teach them a lesson. No, we're going to teach the Democrats and the media a lesson to think we're so stupid, we can't tell a political snow job. It's only the Democrats, the media and their wishful thinking who prays their propaganda is going to hit home with those thinks a scandal is going to take precedence over the war in Iraq. The Democrats constantly says we need a change, there's a new day coming, and we need to change course in Iraq. Well, how do they know what the American people needs. Where have they been since 9/11. All we've heard from them are complaints. Their rhetoric is boring and gets repeated so much we know it already by heart. Who in the world wants any Democrat in office who doesn't recognize their a terrorist threat, won't recognize a booming economy, won't give President Bush any credit for anything, and takes the side of enemy combatants over our troops. This party is not strong enough to handle Ahmadinejad, Hugo Chavez, or Kim Jong Il. Find me one man in the Democratic party who can do the job President Bush has done. There's surely no woman who can fill the shoes of President Bush. There's come a time when talking big just won't get it when you have to finally deal with reality. This election is about reality, not the hate rhetoric we're heard about President Bush failures and our murdering troops. All the Democrats can bring to the table are complainst about how we're treating the terrorists. The rights we don't give the terrorists. The money we've denied the terrorist to get due to the Swift program. The phone calls we won't let targets here in America receive from terrorist abroad, the enemy combatants we won't release in Gitmo to fight us another day, the private meetings we won't give terrorist leaders like Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong Il, and finally it's President Bush's fault Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong Il wants to get nukes because they fear being attack by President Bush. This is the party whose going to protect the American people and hunt down terrorist. It's the terrorist they've been protecting from this country. They can't do both, protect the American people and the terrorist. With their track record they'll pick the terrorist over the American people any day.

I couldn't agree more; well put!

Quite right! Where are the statesmen and the men with gonads. Democrats act as if we deserve to be beaten and subjugated - their advocacy is exerted more on behalf of our enemies than it is for this nation and its people. Why should they worry: they've been accomplices of our enemies all along, and under such circumstances, will use and be used by our enemies.

At least Bush took the fight to the enemy - something the poltroons on the left never would have done.

War is a nasty business, undertaken under imperfect conditions. It takes committed men to fight it: not women, deviant liberals or whining democrats. Enemies respect only one thing - determined resistance. In this age of WMDs, without superior strength and vigilance, we will be vanquished - and all the values we stand for will be lost.

This is not the time to turn the conduct of national policy over to the appeasers and the 'cut and run' crowd. Not only do we lose credibility, betray our friends, and contribute to a likely mid-east slaughter - but we embolden our enemies to take us on right here.

Remember what happened in SE Asia in 1975 when the left had its way then? Millions died at the hands of communists in various blood baths, and we, as a nation, suffered humiliation at the hands of a third world country.

Should this be considered an acceptable circumstance now that our very sovereignty may be at stake? Or are we prepared as a nation to carry the torch that prior generations preserved and passed on to us?

House Divided Against itself can't stand
Be for me or against me, but don't be lukewarm. Failure to vote is a failure of civic duty. This vote is polarized for a reason: the choices are clearer than ever: this is a watershed moment.

Are enemies are watching.

Teach a Lesson

Teach the Liberals the lesson. Vote Republican.
At worst a bad Republican will move to the center and serve his own pocket. A Liberal will run a centrist platform and move to the Left Bank and still will serve his own pocket. A bad Republican is better than true liberal any day.

Taking the Fight & Surrendering
Bush is taking the fight to our enemies while surrendering the country to Third World.

Not Listening?

.....many posters have complained about their congressmen not listening...

.....I beg to differ...the President wanted an amnesty Bill...Rep congressmen were deluged with mail from their constituents against amnesty so they bucked the President and voted against him...so now many want to throw them out for not listening?...please let's be logical here...

.....what conservatives need is a conservative President and we have not had one since Ronald Reagan...Bush 41 was a Limosine Liberal (RINO) and Bush 43's record is a lot more like LBJ than like Reagan...check the similarities...long prolonged war with no resolution..."guns and Butter" (financing a war while increasing social spending)...soft on illegal immigration...

.....what the Republicans need is another Reagan to lead the way....what would Reagan have accomplished if he had the Republican majority that Bush has enjoyed?.....COLOSSUS

Great idea. Amen.

An easy solution..
Me personally, I vote the NRA's report card... I'll be the 1st to admit, there are some "A" rated politico's that I think are horrible on other issues... But I vote for them anyway... Because I'm a single issue voter, and that issue is preserving the 2nd Amendment...

Not this time
Friends of mine have told me that my politics are about three steps to the right of Genghis Khan. So I find it strange to be disowned by neo-conservatives who insist that criticism of the Bush administration's position on the Iraq war makes me a liberal, defeatist, peace-nik. Like George Will, Bob Novak, and Pat Buchanan, I opposed the Iraq war before we invaded since I thought it was a major foreign policy mistake and would distract us from our struggle against terrorism. Even so, I never in my worst nightmares figured that the Bush team could mess it up this much. What arrogance and imcompetence.

In addition to the Iraq debacle, I have been baffled by Bush's out-of-control spending, record budget deficits, massive trade deficits, and burdening an already near-bankrupt Medi-Care system with an inefficient and costly drug program. Why did a Republican Congress and President support spending nearly $500 million for the two bridges to nowhere in Alaska?

Given that we have had a Republican President and Congress for almost six years, I wonder whatever happened to the Contract with America’s promise for a balance budget amendment. How many Republican Congressmen that were elected in 1994 are still running for re-election despite the Contract with America’s 12 year term limits pledge? Were we conned by Newt and the Republicans?

I don’t find this administration to be conservative, compassionate, or even half-way competent. Sadly Bush reminds me more of LBJ (without the good parts), than of Reagan. I don’t know about the rest of the conservatives who have been disowned and lied to by their own Republican Party, but as for me I plan on voting for the best candidate this time out. It no longer matters if he is a Republican or not.

Specifically, I find James Webb in Virginia to be a particularly good candidate for the Senate. He seems to have a knowledgeable, realistic grasp of foreign policy issues and is fiscally responsible. He was appointed by President Reagan to be Undersecretary of Defense and Secretary of the Navy. Also he was a Marine officer decorated for valor in Vietnam (2 Purple Hearts and a Navy Cross). My military experience with Marine officers gives me great confidence in his integrity. I have never caught a Marine officer in a lie and they always do what they commit to.

The fact that Webb is running against a vacuous airhead like George Allen made my choice that much easier. Allen has supported Bush’s disastrous Iraq policy 100 percent. The Washington Post describes George Allen as “a mediocre senator whose six years of undistinguished service do not justify rehiring”. Other recent news articles have referred to George Allen as “Bush Lite” or “Bush without a Brain”. Senator Allen has shown his loyalty to his Party and President by voting with Bush 97% of the time – obviously not a very effective check or balance to the powers of the Executive Branch as intended in the Constitution. This lack of legislative balance has allowed this Administration to pursue a disastrous foreign and fiscal policy that has diminished our reputation and influence overseas and increased our national debt by 50 percent in just six years. Sorry Tony, you and Newt conned me once before in 1994 to vote for all Republican candidates no matter how good or bad they were. Not this time.

To Solar
"Rockman, Sandman: Do you two libs,
Really think conservatives pay you any mind?
You two shills are an embarassment.

You sound like a used car sales man who is desperat and fears loseing his home.
It takes alot more than your squeeling to get our attention.

Solar, I'm not a lib. I am a die hard conservative that is tired of being taken for granted.

Look at the issues I've pointed out. Instead of attacking me, why don't you address the points I've mentioned? It's easier to just dismiss me as a lib, rather than actually admit that the Republicans, including the President, aren't even close to following conservative principles.

You are no better than the Clinton Kool-Aid drinkers. You are drinking the Bush Kool-aid now, and defending the indefensible. Sorry, but integrity means more to me than party. I AM a conservative. Which is more than I can say for the current crop of Republicans.

If you are unpleased with....
...your preferred party (in this case, because you are conservative and are upset with the Republicans) the answer is not to not vote now. The answer is to show up during the primaries and toss the Republican incumbent in favor of a better (more conservative) Republican candidate. But now that is not the choice. Now the choice is between a lessor evil (the Republicans) and a greater evil (the DemonRats -- those EVIL Donks.) So vote Republican now -- and then in 2008 SHOW UP for the primaries with a large gang of likeminded folk and kick out the rotten Republican incumbent for a better conservative.
